Rating: Summary: excellent movie and excellent actors Review: I enjoy the movie very much. Robert Powell did a wonderful job in portraying Jesus. All the actors did an excellent job too. Evey time i watch it i always end up crying just when Jesus carries the wooden beam across his back, during the crucifixing and the death of Jesus. I want to say thank you for bringing this movie out and excellent work to every actor that was in this movie. I will continue watching this movie until the Good Lord comes to take me home(rapture) before the 7 year tribulation comes into effect. Lord be with you always and God Bless you all.
Rating: Summary: The most accurate protrayal of the life and times of Jesus! Review: This film is an absolute must for anyone who is interested in the life and times of Jesus, from birth to resurrection! It probably protrays the most accurate account possible. It is a very moving film and helps you understand Him as a Jewish Rabbi as well as the Son of God. Robert Powell did a superb job!!!
Rating: Summary: MASTERPIECE Review: Franco Zeffirelli's "Jesus of Nazareth" is by far the best depiction of biblical events ever commited to film. The story of Christ is brought alive; the actors seem real, in particular James Farentino as Simon Peter. I imagine that the historical Peter was as hot tempered as Farentino. Robert Powell brings a canvas to the screen as Jesus; viewers fill that canvas with whatever they bring to it. Maurice Jarre's musical score is breathtaking, and there will be no dry eyes in the house for the finale.
Rating: Summary: Best performance in the history of acting. Review: I have always loved this mini-series, especially because of Robert Powell who's been a favourite actor of mine, since I first saw him as Jesus back in the late 70's. I swear to you; of all the performances ANY actor has EVER given on film or TV, I rate this as the best!. Honest to God, I mean it!. -There may be better movies, series, even actors out there, but you find the one single most brilliant acting job here. All the famous faces seem a bit wasted and out of place, but I never really payed much attention to them anyway; so captivating is he. Olivier's in this one too, isn't he ?. -I didn't notice. This mini-series ought to be an Easter tradition on TV everywhere.
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Story Ever Told Review: There is a saying, that a picture tells a thousand words. In a more profound way, Jesus of Nazareth was able to touch my life and the lives of many others who have watched it. I have never seen another film that was more able to portray the compassion, suffering and death of our Lord more vividly than "Jesus of Nazareth." If you have never felt the pain and suffering of another person, then you should watch this film. It also tells of the Greatness of God's Love and Mercy on the most wretched of human beings. The price tag for this story is worth it. It is a good compliment to the bible, but it should not replace bible reading.
Rating: Summary: Impressiv representation Review: It whas Joyful to watch Jesus of Nazaret , on video and I hope as many of you out there could and would do that too .( starring; Robert Powell and Director: Franco Zeffirelli) Good bless you . KristĂn K.
Rating: Summary: an artistic masterpiece Review: Jesus of Nazareth is a classic work of art, an artistic masterpiece that paints the Gospel is all the majesty of a great Renaissance opus, with an all-star cast that leaves you absolutely breathless. Sweeping cinematography, mighty orchestral score, unparalleled acting, the most moving message on film--don't miss it!
Rating: Summary: A Moving Story Review: I would say this film is worth every dollar anyone could spend on it. I have seen it many times, and was greatly moved by the story. I have also seen many other films on Jesus, but this one is vastly superior. The essence of the story is quite faithful to the bible, but certain scenes would have been better if they were appropriately dramatized like the resurrection, while other scenes should receive less emphasis where the bible accounts were not given in detail, like the scene of Judas plotting with the authorities. The director should also have included the scene of Jesus walking on water, to put more effect on the great miracles that draw people to Him. That may require a lot of hard work, but it is worth the effort for a great story such as this. Putting the minor flaws aside, this is still the best work done on the life of Jesus. Robert Powell's role as Jesus is superb and unmatched. The character of Jesus was depicted just as I imagined it, realistic and awe-inspiring. In fact, the actor looks just like the Jesus shown on almost every portrait of Jesus that I have ever seen. I have never felt so deeply about any other films on the life of Jesus as I had with "Jesus of Nazareth", and I strongly recommend it to anyone with a desire to learn more about Jesus. The story is well told, the filming location and the cast of actors are very appropriate. I feel that the bible story has come alive in "Jesus of Nazareth."
Rating: Summary: The best film on the life of Jesus Review: I have seen this film many times over because I love it, and cannot get enough of it. The actor (Robert Powell) played the role of Jesus very well, and depicted the life and character of Jesus just as I imagined it from the bible. The bible seems to come alive through this film, and the story of Jesus touches my soul very deeply, from his Baptism to his miracles, his interactions with people, his last supper, passion, crucifixion, death and resurrection. Although I would have liked his resurrection to be portrayed more dramatically as in the bible, I still consider this film to be the best on Jesus, far ahead of many others I have seen. For those who hunger and thirst for God in their souls, or for you who need a renewal of faith, please watch this film. It has a profound effect on my life, and I am sure that it will also change yours. May God bless you all.
Rating: Summary: The greatest television mini-series ever made! Review: I wish this was available on DVD! Even though the mini-series ran for 6-hours, each moment was gripping and powerful. The cast is superb -- Peter Ustinov, Olivia Hussey, Sir Laurence Olivier, and especially Robert Powell who brilliantly captures both the humanity and the divinity of Jesus of Nazareth. This is Franco Zefferelli's masterpiece. From beginning to end, this production is full of dramatic moments that will forever stay in my mind. He truly brought the biblical story to life in fresh yet respectful manner. I highly recommend it.
