Summary: Jesus of Nazareth
Review: Great story and acting of course. However, a terrible DVD transfer and little if no attempt to correct artifacts and flaws in the master film/video. Overall. a very big dissapointment as the acting and production is of great value. Truely this could have be much greater!

Summary: Jesus of Nazareth
Review: Great story and acting (of course). However the digital transfer did not even attempt to remedy many or the analog errors of the original. Yes it is probably digitally mastered as advertized but little has been done to improve the quality. So the bottom line is, a good buy if on sale but not a huge must have as no real upgrade to the master has been done.

Summary: Profound
Review: I don't know if I can add anything significant to the abundant reviews, but I'd like to try. This film has had more impact on my life than any I've ever seen. Powell's portrayal of Jesus, although inevitably subjective, comes the closest to what I imagine Jesus to be in reality. I can remember watching the original tv series and being absolutely transfixed by the programs. Two key points I would like to add. One, the humanity of Jesus is emphasized slightly (but not much) over His divinity. Jesus became emotional in many spots in the film, something not typically emphasized in the study of Christ. Second, I like how the director brought out the aspect of God as a "loving" God and not vengeful. Jesus came to preach love, and to the extent this movie fits your image of God it preaches that message clearly.

Summary: star spectacular
Review: this movie talks about jesus and how people took hi, as he was there but did not understand him because he was different so they falsely put him to a false trial and killed him.this movis is one i could watch everyday and it puts love into your heart as you realize he went through the almost exact thing we go through every day life, not being accepted because we are different.sad really but he forgives us and he accepts us as he did on this video.

Summary: DVD - NOT a Disappointment!
Review: I am only writing this to address any concerns generated by a previous review that criticized the quality of the transfer of this film to DVD. I feel I owe this to Artisan, the company which has released this wonderful film on DVD. This is not meant as a criticism of the previous reviewer, but rather offered to suggest that possibly he received a bad copy of this title.

I had pre-ordered this title as well. I was very excited about its transfer to DVD. When I read the comments from the previous reviewer, I thought maybe I had just made a bad investment in a poorly transferred DVD. But let me assure you, the quality of this DVD exceeds the original video format. I have compared it very closely utilizing a 6-head VCR for video playback. My children joined me in this comparison. The 6-head VCR provided very nice playback, in many places very comparable to the DVD. But the DVD version is consistently cleaner in its visual image - as you would expect from DVD. The colors are just as brilliant on the DVD as the video, but just a little cleaner.

If the previous comments are referring rather to the original filmwork of Franco Zefirelli, well, we can't change that. The bottom line is this: if you loved this movie on television, and if you have viewed the VHS video version and enjoyed it as well, you will not be disappointed with the DVD version - you will love it as well. And the DVD will not degrade with repeated play.

I love it!

Summary: Touched By The Hand Of God
Review: This movie is without a doubt the most excellent film on the Life, Ministry, Death & Ressurection of Christ I Have ever seen. As a teacher of the Bible I find it puts Jesus into the most personable and accurate light ever made on screen. While some minor liberties were taken to fill in time I feel they in no way strayed from the central theme and were probably very true to life. Robert Powell's performance was superb. He is the image of what I perceive Christ to have looked like. All the actors portrayed their roles exactly how I would have imagined them to be in real life. As a believer I must say this film has deeply touched my life and I think it is a film that will be enjoyed by non-believers as well. God Truly Touched this film and used a non-believing director and cast to make a film that will inspire generations to come. Praise the Lord!

Summary: DVD a disapointment
Review: I was thrilled to see this miniseries coming to DVD and preordered it as soon as I knew about it. And it's a fine TV show....but a lousy film. I haven't been able to find out if it was shot on video or film, but if it was shot on film, no expense was wasted on remastering, because there wasn't any. Artifacts all over the place, washed out colors...yuck. SUMMARY: The greatest story ever told, but one of the worst DVD transfers ever!

Summary: #1 film of Jesus Christ
Review: The first time I saw this movie I fell in love with it. I believe "Jesus of Nazareth" is the best film ever made about Christ...period. I have seen other films, and in my opinion, none of them compare. I thought Robert Powell was absolutely AMAZING as Jesus! Powell made me feel almost like I was watching the real Jesus on-screen and it was truly wonderful. His portrayal of Jesus touched me deeply and I become emotional every time I watch it. Everyone else was excellent, too, especially the actor playing Simon Peter. This film is definitely one I want on my shelf!

Summary: You just HAVE TO WATCH THIS MOVIE!
Review: I'm sure you've read all of the other comments on this movie, and I can't tell you how much they are true! This movie is the most accurate account of the life of Christ I have ever seen. Always in other movies you see christ carrying the whole cross to the place of his crucifixion- but in this video he only carries the crossbeam, which is exactly what historians and archeologists have discovered. As for the movie itself, it was beautifully shot, and the actors were WONDERFUL! Which brings me to one of my favorite points of the movie- two words- Robert Powell. After I saw that movie he has become my favorite actor. Not many movies you can see him in, but his portrayal of Christ is amazing. (The accent kind of took away some of the effect, though.) The second best thing in the movie is the soundtrack. Especially when he's off to his crucifixion (and I cried SO hard). My favorite part in the movie is when he's eating with the Pharisees (those of you who read the bible know the story) and Mary Magdalene runs in and throws herself at his feet. I love the look on his face when he says, "Your sins, and I know they are many, are forgiven of you, because of the greatness of your love." Sigh.... The other touching part (which also made me cry) is after the crucifixion when he's taken down from the cross. His mother is crying (hysterically) and holding him...it just adds such a human touch to the film. If you're interested in seeing the testimony of the life of Christ come to life, or if you just plain want to see a good movie....heck, if you're bored and don't have anything else to do, puh-leeze...see this movie!

Summary: My LORD and my God!
Review: My Strength, my Rock and my Salvation! What an accurate and insightful film. The Actors bring these characters to life so wonderfully and you get such a great feel for how they all related to eachother personally. Particularly the Apostles! It really helps to humanize these saints we hear and read about in the Bible. What a beautiful portrayal of the relationship between Matthew and Simon Peter! Read the Gospels and then watch this movie! Powell's portrayal of My LORD is so moving, I think this is how Jesus would have really acted if I met him while he was on earth. I particularly like the way you can get a real sense of the social-political scene: the Zealots and the Jewish leaders struggling under Roman rule. And Judas' betrayal is portrayed so carefully in the context of his association with the Zealots that you gain a new insight as to how he really could have had benevolent intentions. My complaints: (although not outweighing the praises by any means!) -With as much time as was spent setting the scene for the birth, I think the whole Passion was kind of rushed(The agony in the garden, the carrying of the cross), the end of this movie leaves the whole thing a little flat.[at least for me] I would have loved to have seen the rocks split and the sky becoming dark and the veil of the tabernacle being torn and the guards and Sanhedrin saying "Truly this was the SON of GOD!" (YOu know, the whole production) OK so it starts raining but you really don't get the full effect as you do in the actual Gospel. And I Would have liked to have seen all the Apostles on the Mount of Olives with Jesus for an ascension scene! Instead You just see him sitting there in the room(with no crucifixion marks) wearing the same old clothes. At least put him in a WHITE ROBE? And give me some Tongues of Fire! oh well enough of my complaining. The whole trial before Pilate was done really well(you actually like Pilate until he realeases Barabbas- what a punk). This film was overall a great achievement and definately a faith builder! Praise to you LORD Jesus Christ! <><
