Rating: Summary: A very moving depiction of Jesus's life and death Review: I rented this movie from the local library and was so moved, that I am buying it. It helped me understand the bible, how Jesus interacted with others, and feel the emotions that surrounded the disciples. This is a very well done movie that is well worth the money and the time to watch.
Rating: Summary: Great Film, Despite Its Length Review: I loved this film, although I do think it was too long in some spots. And Robert Powell's acting, although excellent in its holiness aspect, was not quite as human as it should've been. Jesus appeared too detached and unemotional; He could've smiled a bit more, especially around the children. The flogging and Crucifixion scenes portrayed Him as not really feeling the agonizing pain. Nevertheless, I recommend this as the most complete Jesus epic that exists; it covers John the Baptist's birth, Mary and Joseph's wedding, Jesus' birth and baptism, His many miracles (although they skipped His walking on water AND His changing the water into wine at the wedding in Canaan). They also failed to show the temptations in the desert and in the garden at Gethsemane. To see these missing links, watch the 2000 Jesus mini-series, which I loved as well. But if you want to see his entire life played out, watch this long but worthwhile epic. You won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: A Crucial Study Review: I was only 12 when I saw this the first time, and my father actually had to push me into watching it. Well, now I know more about the cross parents are forced to carry for the sake of their children. The movie is a crucial study, although I suggest that parents wait until their children are of a certain age first. (After all, some of the history is quite brutal. Ex The scourging of Christ.) But the movie is VERY well done. The scenery is dramatic but realistic. (A rare combination these days!) The acting is captivating but not hammed up. The 4 different gospels are harmoniously intertwined. Also, although the movie is over 6 hours long, it is never boring. Perhaps the greatest thing about this is the director's combination of speculation AND fact. On one hand, he shows us the events of the gospels. But, he ALSO offers an interesting interpretation of events not in the scriptures. (Ex. Peter flies into a rage when Matthew 'the tax collector' joins Christ and Andrew has to hold Peter back.) Now this is not in the scriptures, but the apostles were after all human, and this event is not outside possibility. The director reminds us that the apostles had weaknesses. Also, the director allows us some possible insight into Judas. (Judas being tricked by the authorities into betraying Christ is not implausible.) My only complaint is that the ressurection could have been given some more time. (But maybe after 6 hours everyone was getting tired.) I feel this is a crucial study for all members of the church.
Rating: Summary: jmguzman Review: DO YOUR'S HAVE IN SPANISH VERSION
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT! Review: My experience with Biblical movies is a bit limited but of those I have seen, NONE have come close to JESUS OF NAZARETH. This film, to me appeals because it is so well-acted that you can see and feel Scripture come to life before your eyes on the screen. All of the actors did exemplary jobs. The performance of Robert Powell as Jesus Christ was utterly spellbinding. Even in the way he looked at people you could feel the humble yet regal loving tenderness of Christ shining through. I wept all the way through this film, for joy at being so moved by a brilliant depiction of art imitating life...from the birth of Jesus Christ to the parable of the prodigal son to the Crucifixion and beyond I literally felt lifted out of myself in wonder, awe, love, pain, and joy. If you would like to see a beautiful film of the greatest (and true! 8) ) story ever told....this is the one to pick up.

Rating: Summary: Praises from Manila Review: Jesus of Nazareth was first shown in Manila when I was only 13 yrs. old. It was shown in movie theatres (not on TV) but people did not mind spending the entire day just to see this magnificent movie. Until today, no movie came close in bringing the life of Christ the way "Jesus of Nazarteh" did. Franco Zeffirelli superbly to showed the mixture of the divine and human Jesus, and political turmoil in Palestine at that time. Robert Powell was simply magnificent. Manilans are still talking up to now how Powell kept his eyes from winking throughout the film. Olivia Hussey was the perfect Mary.
Rating: Summary: The BEST movie about the biblical Jesus Review: I've seen many versions of the movie 'Jesus' and none of them come close to Jesus Of Nazareth. Outstanding performance from all actors (Oscar winners) and the story is Beautiful put together. This movie is available in both VHS and DVD. I've seen this movie in both media formats and the quality of the movie on DVD is quite poor for a digitized movie. Artisan Entertainment didn't do a good job in restoring this movie for DVD release.
Rating: Summary: Jesus Of Nazareth Review: Jesus of Nazareth, starring Robert Powell is in my estimation the most excellent depiction of The Real Jesus of Nazareth, Son of God,Messiah. The character portrayal was wonderful, humble yet strong. Loving and miraculous like Jesus himself and the reason I can say so is because I know Him personally. And if He was walking in the midst of us today in a flesh and blood body, this is what He would be like. Excellent film, if you dont have it you must get it! I watch it over and over, Five stars and plus to Jesus Of Nazareth.
