Rating: Summary: A Timeless Great Review: Flicks don't get much better than this one. I have seen this movie about 50 times and I am still intrigued by its storyline. Damon and Affleck put together one of the greatest story's of all time and both proved well in their respective roles. I would recommend this flick to anyone. Its a great tribute to friendship and falling in love, and all the turmoil in between. This is a definite "new" classic for any DVD collection.
Rating: Summary: Good Will Games Review: Will Hunting (Matt Damon) may be just your average working-class stiff, but behind that tough exterior, lies the heart of a genius. After one too many run-ins with the law, his only chance to avoid jail, comes when he is supported by a college professor (Stellan SkarsgÄrd), who thinks that Will needs to helped rather than any jail time. Will is introduced to Sean Maguire (Robin Williams), a psychology professor that learns as much from his "Patient", as Hunting learns from him. Written by best buddies and stars Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, the script deals a lot more than just therapy sessions. It's really a well rounded slice of life look at relationships and finding one's true self. Directed by Gus Van Sant, the performance from Williams is tops, and deserved its attention. The film has a lot of humor in it too. This helps balance out the film's more dramatic moments very nicely. Actress Minnie Driver as Skylar gives her all as Will's love interest and matches her performance in CIRCLE OF FRIENDS The "Collector's Series" DVD has a very conversational commentary between Van Sant, Damon, and Affleck that is very well executed and offers a lot of cool tid-bits about the film. There are 11 deleted scenes with commentary that are pretty good too but I can see why they were cut out. The rest of the extras, a production featurette, theatrical trailers/tv ads, a "Miss Misery music video, an Oscar Best Picture montage, and behind the scenes footage, make for a well rounded DVD. The commentary and deleted material are the extras that make this disc worth buying over the film only DVD Highly Recommended **** star disc
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Film Review: A brilliant screenplay, great performances from everyone, especially from Damon and Williams, and very good directing. It's the story and the performances from Damon and Williams that comes alive in this film. This is a must for everyone...you will be moved by this film. One of the best screenplays I've seen.
Rating: Summary: Favorite Movie Ever Review: Everyone will find a resemblance of themselves in viewing this movie. Watch it three or four times if it doesn't remind you of yourself the first or second time.
Rating: Summary: essential hollywood product Review: The most overrated movie in years. Contrived, shamleslessly sentimental, and an ending , that was surely written to be the the "happiest" in history of modern cinema.
Rating: Summary: Wake me up when it's over Review: I have rarely been so bored at a movie theater. I literally fell asleep for about half an hour, so perhaps I missed something, but I doubt it. Robin Williams overacted. Matt Damen is in love with himself. The movie had no life to it. I'd rather nap at home for free.
Rating: Summary: Good even the 2nd time round Review: I have just enjoyed this movie for the second time, and found it just as intriguing and enjoyable as the first time I saw it at the theatre. Matt Damon's portrayal as Will Hunting is one of his best performances. The twisting emotions he has to deal with towards the conclusion of the movie make for riveting viewing. Robin Williams, the therapist, while helping Will, also takes a long hard look at his own life and while the movie focuses mainly on developing the relationship between Damon and Williams, there are also other interesting interactions. Minnie Driver (the girlfriend) and Ben Affleck (the best friend) deliver magnificent back-up performances. This movie is thought provoking and sometimes disturbing, but very real. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: One Of The Best Contemporary Dramas Available! Review: This movie goes off the charts in all the most important ways, in terms of storyline, ensemble acting presented, contemporary humor, revealing truths about life and the problems associated with a young, brilliant, but emotionally troubled young man trying desperately to make sense out of a crazy world. What is so amazing and so remarkable about the film is that it was the handywork and dreamchild of two relatively unknown (at least up until then) actors and screenwriters in the persons of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, boyhood friends and denizens of the greater Boston area. Add to this superb screenplay the support of wonderful actors like Robin Williams, who won a best supporting actor oscar for his role as the psychiatrist who unlocks the secrets to the protagonist (Will Hunting)and allows him to grow and mature. Minnie Driver is also excellent as the love interest drawing Will Hunting toward his beckoning adulthood. She is also the occasion for the single best line in the film; "You like apples? I got her phone number! How do you like them apples?" This film works so well on so many levels that it is really a shame that it lost the Oscar for best picture to "Shakespeare In Love", for this is a far more powerful, enduring, and worthwhile film experience. if you haven't seen it, I recommend you RUN to the nearest video store and rent it. And after you swoon before its magic, you'll want to come back to Amazon.com and order a copy for your personal video library. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Matt Damon Dazzles Hollywood Once Again! Review: A great movie starring the very talented Matt Damon. Once again he shocks the world with his amazing talent as an actor and gives the movie a great appeal. I loved this movie and think all with a compassionate heart should deffinitly watch it. Its about the power an individual can have on another ones life. Robin Williams once again is the simpathetic good guy that saves the day. The movie also features Ben Affleck and is brother Kasey affleck. This movie captures your spirit and startles your soul. You'll find yourself a better person after watching this movie.
Rating: Summary: Hey You!!!! Read This Review: 1. [The Summary] This is a good movie about a mathematical genius who was abused by his parents in his childhood and is afraid to love, lest he be abandoned again. He ignores his intelligence and spends his time with his mediocre friends at the batting cages or drinking in the local bar. 2. [The facts] Just because this was written by two actors who also starred in the movie, doesn't make it a bad movie. It means they wrote out what parts they wanted to play. P.S. For God's sake, shut up about the F word already. Sometimes art is gritty. And hey, that's how college kids talk.
