Review: Great Journeys is an entertaining look at migration patterns of a large number of animal species. It is also a revelation of sorts exploring the inner workings of how and why these migrations take place. Along with the information on the massive distances covered by these animals, the viewer is also shown hunting and mating practices of several species and their habits for survival.

The narration for the feature is quite well done and the DVD offers an alternate option of a music & ambience track if you'd prefer just music and picture. The video presentation is attractive with good clarity and color. At only 60 minutes long, each chapter is somewhat encapsulated but enough information is given to still offer a worthwhile production. If you're an animal lover, you'll probably end up wishing this was much longer, as I did. There is really no bonus features to speak of aside from a couple of trailers of other documentaries.

All in all, Reader's Digest has done an admirable job in their examination of nature and the animal kingdom. One can only hope that there will be more productions like this one. If you're a fan of this type of material, I'd recommend taking a look at this feature.

Review: This DVD is not only interesting, it makes you really appreciate the creatures with which we share the planet. The journeys and migrations of the various birds and animals covered in the DVD are absolutly incredible.
