Review: Not your usual documentary, Cane Toads is a hilarious, off-beat look at an ugly critter that spews poison yet has that sweet, come-hither look your two-year-old finds so cute. This is no Kermit, but a killer toad from Down Under with odd sexual habits. This film, which I saw at the Smithsonian Institution's Natural History Museum, of all places, will make you roll over with laughter even as you hide your eyes behind your hands!

Summary: This is the best movie i have ever seen in science class
Review: Okay... We we're studying ecosystems in 9th grade biology. In the middle of class my teacher totally cracks up, and tells us that we are going to have fun in class the next day. So we all come into class the next day, and surprise!!! a video about cane toads!!! Of course we were all excited(not really, we thought the teacher had gone a little whacko) but 5 minutes into the movie, every person was laughing their head off! This is the best movie i have ever seen in any science class!!! (or any classroom for that matter) IT talked aobut how everything went wrong when the cane toads were introduced into Australia, and how they now cover most of the northern part of Australia. It interviews a lot of aussies (one who is now addicted to smoking the cane toad poison and one who enjoys watching them mate... you can imagine how those two went over in a class full of high school freshman) and several scientists (one describes their mating habits) This is a totally awesome movie that had my whole class laughing (including the teacher) and also had us a little grossed out (in a good way.) Definitely buy this movie if you want a good laugh...its worth the 20 bucks!

Review: One of the two funniest movies I've ever seen--it and the other (Dr. Strangelove) make very serious points in a hysterically funny way. From the visual style, dialogue, characters (the poor people who have to live with the toads), and the sheer absurdity of the situation, you could almost mistake this for a lost episode of "Monty Python's Flying Circus."

Summary: The Great Australian Plague of Cane Toads Documentary
Review: Sure, you can make up stuff in this world, but why would you want to? You probably have heard about the rabbits running wild in Australia, well here is the amazing but true story of the Cane Toads. The softball-size toads were imported to Australia in 1935 by sugar cane farmers to fight a devastating beetle infestation. The problem was that the Cane Toads eat practically everything and use a natural poison to fight off predators. The original 100 toads now basically control the northern half of the continent. Mark Lewis's whimsical documentary provides the standard scientific examination of these little creatures, but the main focus is on what the people in the Outback think about them. The high point of this 1987 documentary covers the sexual persistence of the Cane Toads: one of them attempts for eight hour to mate with a female that has been dead for several days. See? You cannot make this stuff up. You can only sit back, watch it, and let your jaw bounce off the ground.

Review: This is quite possibly the best nature movie ever made. It is accurate, has an excellent point, and is influential. Most importantly, it is drop dead hilarious! I first saw this at Truman Sate University when I got my B.S. I borrowed it and watched it with a group on two different occasions. (Even learned how to play the theme song "Cane toads are coming") Now I have found it at Amazon! Thank you my life is almost complete.

Review: This is the funniest thing I have ever seen in my life. My entire family was rolling on the floor laughing. Our favorite part has got to be the girl and her toad Dairy Queen. The background music is about loving toads and she's there making the fat thing dance. This is a must see.

The Austrailians who explain what they think about the toads range from a man who smokes the cane toad poison to a man who likes to watch them mate on the front lawn.
