Rating: Summary: Excellent photography. Information for kids Review: Excellent photography and impressive IMAX reproduction . The film writters were completely ignorant about Egypt and its history. A shame when they had almost unlimited resources for research and the best reproduction system we have today. What a lost oportunity to tell a grown up vision of history and not wondering like little kids over how they got the stones so high. Don't miss it. The scenery and clarity of the picture makes it a 5 star . The writters will do better finding another way to earn a living.
Rating: Summary: Very Basic review of ancient Egypt. Review: Great for a student or anyone who is looking for an introduction to egyptian history. Slow moving for most adults. There are wonderful videos on egypt ,that are much more informative and exciting to watch.
Rating: Summary: Excellent recreated sequences of Egyptian life and times Review: Haven't seen the DVD, but saw the IMAX and found it very enjoyable and filled with nice sequences of Egyptian life recreated for the film.Especially interesting were sequences showing the painted statuary and walls in Egypt...many people aren't aware that they were painted since the paint has worn off most outdoor displays. The story, with Omar Shariff and a niece, helps keep interest of young people and others not aware of other attractions found in Egypt. A 40 minute survey of Egypt, well and colorfully done, much attention to detail and historical niceties. A real plus!
Rating: Summary: Ancient Egypt at its best Review: I admire the movie' portrayal of Egyptian ancient history. As an Egyptian, I felt alot of pride as I saw the ancient history of my nation and people recreated in awesome historical accuracy infornt of my eyes. The only negative thing that I saw in the movie was the absence of a link between the ancient history and the modern history (what do you expect from a movie which has the word "mysteries" in its title) It narrates history as if Ancient Egyptian civilization died two thousands of years ago with no heir, which is incorrect. Until his day we find its influence still strong not only on Egypt itself as a heir to the Egyptian heritage and culture, but also on the whole world. If the movie could have been extended to include the Egyptian history up to modern day, it would probably have been a historical treasure.
Rating: Summary: Ancient Egypt at its best, timeless history at its worst. Review: I admire the movie's portrayal of The Egyptian ancient history. As an Egyptian, I felt a lot of pride as I saw the ancient history of my nation and people recreated with awesome historical accuracy infront of my eyes. The only negative element that I see in the movie is how it neglected the link between the ancient and modern history (What do you expect from a movie which has the word "mysteries" in its title). It narrates Ancient Egyptian history as if the ancient Egyptian civilization died 2000 years ago with no heir, which is absolutely incorrect. The influence of Ancient Egyptian Civlization is strong not only on Egypt as the heir of the Egyptian glory and heritage, but also on the whole civilized world. If the movie was able to be extended to include the complete Egyptian History from the Dawn of life to modern day, The movie would have been a historical treasure rather than just a perfect portrayal of Ancient Egypt.
Rating: Summary: Stories of King Tut Review: I bought and watched this before going on a trip to Egypt. Very good quality imax movie and good overview of the stories of King Tut. But if you want a lot of details you have to dig some where else. A good introductory movie for people interested in Ancient Egypt. A little bit short though.
Rating: Summary: An Amazing Experience Review: I first saw this film at an Imax at the Futuroscope in France. The images in this film are breath-taking as is the narration by Sharif. A MUST for your DVD library!
Rating: Summary: Awesome visuals, stupid story incorporated into the movie Review: I had a chance to see this on an IMAX screen and the visuals of Egypt were terrific, but what made this movie bad was having actors try to tell a fictional story. This would of been much better as just a straight documentary feature, instead they tried to "Hollywood" it up, with poor results. My suggestion is, rent this :)
Rating: Summary: Very Well Done!! Review: I had the privilge of watching this wonderful IMAX production on the IMAX screen at Hearst Castle in California. I was completely taken in by the cinematography as well as the content of the movie itself. It was well written and well acted and the scenery was breathtaking as were the re-enactments of how the Pyramids of Giza may have been built was fantastic. I only wish that a soundtrack CD would be released since the music was also a feast for the ears. I recommend this DVD to all.
Rating: Summary: Bad, bad, bad Review: I have seen almost all of the IMAX DVDs, and this is by far the worst of the bunch. The back and forth narration of the child and "wise" sage is boring and annoying, and most of the scenes don't work well. Don't pick this title up.
