Rating: Summary: First time user Review: After one time of using this video I know I will never get rid of it. All the moves are taught in an easy to follow way. And you are taught like 5 different dances from different regions. My fave is the one from Ghana maybe cuz thats where my love is from!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: African Healing Dance Jambo! Review: An excellent excellent tape. I am an experienced dancer and I knew a couple of the dances already. I was very happy with the tape and found the booklet that came with it informative. I would recommend this to any dancer at any level. Shelly
Rating: Summary: Definitely worth the investment. Review: Good introduction to African dance. Not constrained to a specific region, instructor presents classic elements of this dance genre. She does an excellent job of breaking the movements down, and explains what she is doing very clearly. Filmed in a physically beautiful setting with a variety of dancers, the video is great to watch or dance to.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully freeing! Review: I am a VERY white girl, and was concerned that I wouldn't be able to do this video. NOT at all the case. I absolutely loved the first section, and had probably the best time I've ever had exercising (stomping around as an elephant? Being fire? Water?)The instructional part was harder for me to grasp, but I did come up with some reasonable approximations of the dances, and I'm steadily getting better. It was generally clear and well demonstrated, and some of the costumes (especially the simple white dresses) were gorgeous! I'm learning to belly dance, and I find it hard to improvise and dance freely. This video not only gives me a good workout and makes me feel happy and relaxed, it's also helping me to improvise better!
Rating: Summary: 6 stars!!! Review: I am currently a Djembe drummer --and I was looking for a way to initially learn some of the traditional African Dances without the cost -and I have found it. This video is beautiful ----the intial warm up --although excellent ----I found wasnt very motivating because of the lighting and the enclosed, hollow sounding space ----but once the instructor took it outside --absolutely a gem ----I can watch it as a performance ---I can play my drum like I am within the group and ofcourse I can excercise. The movements are fairly easy -as long as you let yourself go --and feel the drums ---but you do get a workout when your done ---although its so much fun you dont realize it. The last part--improvisation -amazing--you get to apply what you've just learned, express yourself -and just feel the drum----when you finish this tape you feel refreshed and rejuventated. EXCELLLENT!EXCELLENT!EXCELLENT!

Rating: Summary: Fun and different Review: I bought this tape to inspire me to get a little more exercise. Traditional aerobics bore me, and I've always secretly wanted to be a dancer despite the fact that I'm a complete klutz. This tape is a lot of fun. The dances are beautiful, and even when I couldn't figure out where to put my feet, I was having fun trying. I loved the opening sequence (the aforementioned wind, fire, elephant moves), and was sad to find out that there was an actual "traditional" warmup. The only warning I have about the dances is that they typically require you to be able to isolate certain body parts (i.e. moving your rib cage, but not your shoulders or hips). If you haven't studied a similar dance style (or bellydancing, which is notorious for that), you'll probably find that a bit challenging at first. It's pretty rewarding if you stick it out. The tape lost a star for three reasons: 1) there were a few occasions where she was teaching new steps and the camera never went to her feet (and I'm completely uncoordinated in that realm!) 2) I thought the dances could have been ordered (even within geographic regions) so that the more difficult dances came first. The second and third dances have fast foot, arm, and hip movements, while the fourth dance is much more simple. It would be nice to be able to master the easier dances before getting frustrated by the harder ones. 3) I desperately want it on DVD! (This would alleviate problem #2)

Rating: Summary: i did it once and didn't like it Review: i can understand how someone freer and more willing to "yeeeyeeyee" might be able to really get into this tape, i found myself turning it off and going for straight up aerobics. it is interesting and informative, but for me, i couldn't get into the exercise part of the tape, which is what i was looking for.
Rating: Summary: THANK YOU... Review: I gave up my african dance classes when I became a mother and a wife, and totally lost the connection when I relocated to another state. Finding this tape is a prayer answered. I've long to dance to the drums and now I can in the privacy of my own home any time I want. I hope this is not the last of these tapes. Lamba is one of my favorites dances types and anything to an Ibo rhythm works for me too. Just some suggestions from someone who has found a reconnection to the spiritual power of African dance.
