Summary: Kundalini Yoga
Review: I have been an avid Gurmukh fan, enjoying the aerobic style of Kundalini Yoga. Grace and Strength takes that to a new level, not as aerobic, but intense enough. I love this vidoe and in fact, gave it to my mom, because she liked it so much. I am on today to purchase another one.

Summary: wonderful
Review: I have done yoga for a long time but have just recently begun to do Kundalini Yoga. Unfortunately since there are not teachers in my area I need to rely of books and dvds and videos. I just got this video and did it for the first time. It is absolutely my favorite! I felt great doing it and afterwards felt even better.
If you are a beginner pay attention to when Carol says to take it at your own pace and use common sense and you will be just fine. Although she does not show actual modifications for some of the poses and moves she does show some modification but your own good judgment and knowledge of your body will suffice for the rest. Aftr al that is what this is about, getting with your body and yourself.
The progression in this video is a bit different than I have experienced before but I loved it. Her presentation and voice over are just perfect in terms of pace and tone. It is very accesable and has a more familiar western type flavor to it than other videos making it very non intimidating. No fancy sets, no unfiamiliar music and panoramic shots of the outdoors. Just yoga. There is lots of emphasis on breathing as well.
I highly recommend it and will be looking for others by Carol Carlson.

Summary: Gets all the parts moving
Review: I have had formal training in Kundalini Yoga so I understood this video and found it to be well-paced and a very satisfying yoga workout. However, just to warn people that are new to yoga (especially Kundalini yoga which is different from Hatha) even though Carol Carlson explains everything -- I feel the breath of fire and other techniques such as that may not be explained quite enough for new comers to yoga. This is NOT the video to start out with if you have never done Kundalini yoga or you are not familiar with that style of yoga. Kundalini yoga is (in my opinion) the most beneficial of all the yogas, but needs the most explanation at the same time, which I feel this video is somewhat lacking. If you are trained in Kundalini Yoga then get this video. I bought it over a year ago and I have continued to use it again and again. It is a very good intermediate level, not easy at all, but not too hard either. I can get through the 70 minutes and it is challenging throughout, but never am I thinking, "I can't get through this." I have owned dozens of yoga videos and this is a favorite. It doesn't seem like it is 70 minutes. It goes by very quickly it seems compared to some yoga videos.

Summary: Refreshing and Positive
Review: I have not taken a yoga class but I have practiced martial arts for years. Yoga is important and so to supplement my personal routine, I wanted a DVD that was not stereotypically commercial. If you look at the different bookstores it is easy to see which ones are and which ones are not like this. If you can't get to a local yoga class, I would recommend this DVD. I personally found it refreshing and positive and if this is what you are looking for, then I would recommend it.

Review: I loved this video and felt great after completing it, but 70 minutes is just way to long. I prefer workouts in the 20-30 minute range, because I just don't have the time.

Summary: Couldn't get past the annoying voice...
Review: I may be shallow and judgmental, but I just could NOT get past the annoying voice of the instructor, and especially could not look at Carol Carlson as a professional, credible, literate instructor when she mispronounces "especially" as "ekspecially" (twice!) and misuses "radiance" for "radius." Something just happened to me inside when I heard those words, and I knew I never wanted to watch the video again. I'm with the people who criticized her voice as annoying and monotone, and the "Sat nam, sat nam, sat nam" really got on my nerves. I would not recommend this to anyone. ... I could have gotten a Kundalini instructor who knew how to speak English correctly! I guess I have just gotten very, very picky about what I spend my money on, and when I buy a professionally done instructional video, I expect to be instructed by someone who can speak properly.

Summary: Good start for beginners
Review: I purchased this video not really knowing what to expect. The instructor moves along easily in this video, giving the viewer time to change positions. I would recommend this video to anyone starting kundalini yoga.

Summary: Scattered practice without proper warmups!
Review: I tried this video this morning and was really disappointed.

I have been doing yoga for 7 years, have over 70 yoga videos and study with a wonderful teacher with kundalini influences.

There are two main points of contention I have with this program.

1st: I felt this was very unsound in terms of it's physical presentation. In particular, there are no warmups before she plunges into an inverted table posture (if she considers that a warmup then I'm puzzled). For myself personally (and I am in excellent physical condition and my body is used to an intense yoga practice) I found it very dangerous to proceed like this. A sound yoga practice should gradually prepare the body for what is to come, this program doesn't do that at all.

2nd: She shows VERY few modifications which can also be dangerous to someone trying to follow her verbatim, but had I not been experienced with yoga and hadn't known how to modify I would've gotten hurt trying to follow her speed and range of motion (especially the insane speed which she takes cat-cow before your body is properly warmed up.)

While I wanted to stop immediately into the tape I thought that I should bypass judgement until doing the whole tape. Unfortunately for me it didn't seem to get better.

I really dislike having to write such a negative review because I get no enjoyment out of doing so, however I felt it important to share my opinion because folks might get hurt doing this tape if they don't know any better.

While it was interesting to me to see a style of yoga such as this, I won't ever try to practice with this program again (unless I was already thoroughly warmed up with 30 minutes or more of a more sound practice).
