Rating: Summary: Fun for off/busy days Review: Although this is not the best workout in the world, it is a really fun video to do. When you're learning the steps it can be a little frustrating, but once you get them it's a blast. I would recommend this video to those who like to dance and are looking for something short and sweet for busy days. I agree with the earlier reviewer - the cool down and mat work is a waste of time - I just fast-forward and make it a 30 minute cardio routine, then do my own cool down and stretching.
Rating: Summary: So-So Review: I agree with the previous reviewer. This video is definitely not for people with limited dance experience. The first segment moves fairly quickly into some intermediate steps/sequences, and there isn't much time given to learn the steps one by one. I've not had much dance experience, and I got discouraged rather quickly.
Rating: Summary: The Worst! Review: I also made the mistake of buying this video before reading comments from others. BIG mistake! This video is awful. I have tons of fitness videos and have never bought one as bad as this. I am fairly coordinated and can do other dance fitness videos, but this was beyond me. I don't want to spend hours and hours trying to get the steps so I can get my workout in. In fact,it wouldn't give a decent workout, even if you could do all of the dance steps. The description on the cover is totally false and misleading. I also bought The Method-Step Up To Dance and don't like that one either. No cuing. No advance practice steps. Another awful video. No more The Method for me! Don't waste your money! If I could have rated these videos with ZERO stars, I would have!
Rating: Summary: Mediocre Review: I bought this DVD expecting much more than I received. First of all, it is poor quality. Particularly in the second workout routine, the volume is constantly changing from almost inaudible to fairly loud. Also, it would be very difficult for a beginner to pick up the steps. I caught on the second time through, but I know the 12 years of dance training I had contributed to that. There are no real cues, or explanation of the moves beforehand, so you will likely be lost if you have little to no dance experience. I also hate the length of the workouts. The aerobic portion only lasts for about 14 minutes (which isn't enough time to burn off much of anything!), followed by a 6 minute cool down. I have gotten into the habit of going through the aerobic portion 3-4 times, and then doing the cool down once at the end, but that gets very monotonous. I found the first routine to be fun and enjoyable once I had the moves down, but I can barely tolerate the second one. I don't enjoy the second instructor at all--For example, in the first routine, the instructor gives directions based on where the viewer is standing, so that when she says go right, I actually do go to the right. The second instructor, however, will say to go right, but will move to her own right, meaning that I have to go left. Her cuing is just generally awful. The movements are more jerky than in the first routine (despite that it is called "fluid movements") and I feel like the routine is rushed, so that the muscles don't get a good, proper-technique workout. Overall, I use the first routine sometimes, but I definitely wouldn't have purchased it had I known what it was like beforehand. I have generally been very dissatisfied with The Method Series--I purchased a Method Pilates DVD that was equally bad, if not worse--and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
Rating: Summary: complex cardio Review: I bought this tape at a discount store because of the low price. I always watch my fitness videos first then try to actually do the moves. As I watched, I knew I would never be able to do this video. The moves are complex for someone with no dance background. The instructors demonstrate the moves, but use dance terms to describe them. If you have done jazz or other type of dance in the past, you would really like this. If you are not coordinated, go for something else.
Rating: Summary: Notice: Dance Experience Required! Review: I bought this workout thinking that it would be a great opportunity to get my heart rate up at home. I guess I didn't realize that you need to be a trained dancer to understand what's going on. Moves much too quickly (even after 4 or 5 tries I'm still not sure how to do most of the steps) - I usually just end up dancing around trying to work in some of the moves as I can. If you're going to spend your money on a cardio workout and you're not a dancer, I highly recommend getting something else.
Rating: Summary: Not great, but not terrible. You'll need dance experience. Review: I like dancey type stuff, so to me this was an ok buy. HOWEVER, I would NOT have been happy if I had not had any previous experience in choreographed dance. This is not for the beginner in fitness. This is not really even a full fledged fitness video. Its just a fun dance video, but not alot of real exercise to it. If you have never had one on one dance instruction before, do NOT buy this video. Ok, here are a few observations for you, in addition to what I have stated above. #1 The cover features 2 women who are not even in the video. #2 The music is horrible. #3 The first part of the video is the most fun. Atleast you can stand the instructor, and the moves are repeated enough that you can get a good grip on the movement. (atleast if you have had previous experience in dance) ...The 2nd part of the video should be avoided at all costs. The woman is SO... annoying that you'll want to jump through the screen and slap her silly. The routine isn't even all that fun. For me it was worth it because I enjoyed the first part of the video. If I'm bored, I can pick up this video and just have fun. For serious exercise, I have several videos and pieces of equipment I can use. I would not use this for a workout. So, keep your money if you are looking for a great workout or have little dance experience, or both. If you want something light and fun to do, pick this up... Its not a total loss, but not the best thing I ever bought either. All in all, I give this 3 out of 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: Terrible!! Review: I made the HUGE mistake of picking up this DVD prior to reading anything about it. The back of the package tells you to "Indulge yourself with these two easy-to-follow fat burning modern dance style segments . . . ." Easy to follow?? Absolutely not. If you have quite a bit of prior dance experience, then you'll probably have no problem. Fat burning?? Unless, again, you are an experienced dancer and can really get into the routine, the super short and super confusing segments won't do anything to get your heart pumping.
Rating: Summary: Professional dancers only Review: I should have known better. The new graphics and updated name blinded me to the fact that I had made unhappy purchases from this line before (when it was called simply The Method). Talk about false advertising. The routines are impossible to follow. The instructors never mention potential dangers due to bad form. Given the pace and confusion, I'm sure all my movements demonstrate bad form! All I get from this is irritation.
Rating: Summary: bad quality method Review: I'm very keen on "dance" fitness. So I was very excited with "The Method" series which offer a combination jazz dance, toning, cardio workouts. Now this "New Method" looks like recycled home videos or videos that somebody taped off a TV show and decided to make a buck. By the time you start to sweat, the workouts are over. This tape is good for warm-ups or for clock-watchers but it's definitely a step back for "The Method" franchise.
