Rating: Summary: I'M GLAD I BOUGHT THIS AFTER ALL Review: After reading the reviews here, I originally did not buy this video...eventually I came back to it ...just a feeling and I'm glad I did. I did not find the instructor offensive and I do like her style of exercise instruction. The more I work with her; I find the more I get out of her style of communication. I also have Kundalini Yoga with Gurmukh which I absolutely love. I feel both are well worth buying! Update: If I had to choose one after some time of using both; it would be this one....however, each has unique qualities that make both valuable.
Rating: Summary: Kundaline Yoga with Grace & Strength Review: An excellent set of yoga routines to get energized and meditate. I have practiced yoga off and on for many years and have tried many different tapes in the past to learn more- this is one of the best I have seen.I strongly recommend this dvd.
Rating: Summary: A hideous disappointment Review: An insutlingly bad tape that is neither a good workout nor appealing introduction to the world of kundalini. Instructure Carol Carlson is so montoned and personality-free, that you have to wonder whether the kundalini has whipped right up her spine and left her brain damaged. Production values here are nil-shot against a white background, they actually use freeze-frame when Carol's resting or meditating (if only I could sit so still). "Sat-nam, sat-nam, sat-nam," she repeats again and again in her passionless, nasal midwestern drone. It's a bizarre, bumpy ride. Furthermore, the workout comes with practically no instruction-which would seem to be crucial given the potentially life-shaking nature of kundalini yoga.
Rating: Summary: Energizing & Relaxing Review: Carol Carlson's video is an excellent way to simultaneously energize and relax your mind and body. If you are a beginner, be prepared to do this video at 10-15 minutes intervals. It is geared more toward intermediate yoga practioners, but she still gives beginner's optional methods to do the exercises. Sometimes I do the entire tape, and sometimes I do it in intervals throughout the day if I am particularly worn-out! I often use the end of the tape (a relaxing meditation) to help me go to sleep or calm me down! In reference to the person who commented on "breath of fire" throughout every exericise, I somewhat agree. I have found that long deep breathing is much more beneficial to me, particularly when my muscles are tight. The longer breathing usually brings me in to the pose with no pain and no thought. This is what I have experienced in other Kundalini classes as well. But, if you get the video, just participate in breath of fire whenever you would like to and use the long deep breathing when you think it necessary. Carol Carlson says this herself! Excellent video!
Rating: Summary: Experience the grace of your breath into a journey of self. Review: Carol Carlson's video provides a stimulating practice utilizing the breath and movement of energy to facilitate a person's flexibility, expansion, and meditation practice. The video's focus requires a basic understanding of yoga postures and philosophy. The viewer must be willing to observe the postures and listen for verbal instructions to refine each posture as the development of their abilities are refined. I find her positive affirmations very encouraging and assist one in moving deeper into each posture. The grace and strength of her practice are most refreshing in her approach to Kundalini Yoga. As I continue to use this video, I now wish some of the postures could be held for longer periods of time as compared to when I first started I felt I could not complete some postures. I have shared the video with friends and they have found the practice a positive experience and addition to their yoga practice.
Rating: Summary: Good work out -- Tough workout Review: From my self study of Kundalini Yoga, I find this tape to be true to the Kundalini philosophy. It is not for absolute beginers to yoga. I practice several styles of Yoga including Ashtanga and a more generic hatha yoga. I enjoy the change of pace and the challange this Kundalini yoga tape. The breath of fire discussed on this tape is certainly challenging to maintain, however, if done correctly it is NOT hyperventalation. I reccomend this tape for those who are open minded to moving through a different yoga paradigm.
Rating: Summary: A Lousy example of the wonderful world of Kundalini... Review: Having a well rounded background in Kundalini Yoga I can say with utmost confidence that this video is not the way you want to be introduced to the practice of Kundalini Yoga. I have NEVER seen any Yogi do "Breath of Fire" in every single asana done....ever. Why, because it's NOT done!
Rating: Summary: A Good Introduction To Kundalini Yoga Review: Having never tried this type of yoga before, I found Carol Carson to be low key, yet her calmness helped me to remain calm during the sometimes taxing breath of fire. For those not familiar with yoga and especially with breathing techniques, I think this tape may be difficult to follow. I did feel wonderfully alive when I finished the practice.
Rating: Summary: Very Nice overall Review: Having watched the tape first...I thought it looked more complex and then I did it the next day and found it was easier..more accessible than it appeared or than I thought. I would say that it is very nice overall. However, this is really an ADVANCED BEGINNER or INTERMEDIATE tape..like so many of tapes that do not stress this fact or pass for beginner by using the advertising. In addition, you should be WARMED UP already on your own before you do this tape..her first pose is a version of Bridge pose with breath of fire!..so be warmed up and ready to go in this case. Specifically, the demonstator does IMO embody the "grace and strength" slogan in both the poses and the way in which they are carried out. The length of time is good if you are looking for longer workout. She uses lots of "Breath of Fire". There is something calm and gentle about the flow and approach here..it could also be the effect of the music used. While there are ample rest times there seems to be very little time given in the rest ..the moment you are into it she is moving on. The last rest period seems a bit long in comparison. I've found that with tapes like this...(a good example being "Lower Body Yoga"..with Susan Deason)...that the second and times afterwards you are no so caught off guard since you have the experience already. You eventually can just modify, even if you are a little late into our out of whatever pose, though this too can be a little annoying or distracting because the impending sense of having to keep up;not fall behind. GREAT COMPLIMENTS! to her outfit... cooling, calm, balancing, and most of all respect/ful to her body, the viewer, and yoga.
Rating: Summary: a yoga instructor from NY Review: I am a certified Prana Yoga Instructor (based on Kripalu Yoga) and I recently discovered Gurmukh's Kundalini Yoga tape, which I think is wonderful. In my quest to learn more about Kundalini Yoga I ordered this Carol Carlson video. After no more than 10 minutes into this tape I had to turn it off. What is she thinking to do a backbend with breath of fire as her first asana, with no options for modifications for beginners or people with shoulder, wrist or back issues....and even for advanced students no warm up??? I could not go on I was so annoyed at her. I found her tone condecending and annoying. Yoga students seeking an energizing, revitalizing, life changing experience should try Gurmukh or Ravi Singh, both instructors present the practice from a place of love and healing, yet the work outs are physically challenging.
