Summary: Not JUST for weight loss
Review: If you're completely new to Pilates, it's perfect for you. If you're experienced in it, this may not be the best choice of a DVD. This was the 4th Pilates program I bought and it's better then all 3 of the others combined. The instruction is detailed and separate from the actual exercise sessions. There are several sessions of different lengths and focusing on different areas (legs, upper body) at each of the 3 levels. As you get to the harder levels they start going faster but it's not too fast.

Summary: Discouraged
Review: The models and the sets look good, but here's the situation: Joseph Pilates would NEVER describe his method as a weight loss strategy. Mr. Piates was an amazingly intelligent man with incomparable integrity. The Pilates method is a wholistic approach to mental, physical, and spiritual health. The method was NEVER intended to provide a quick way to lose weight.

As a professional Pilates instructor with 20 years' of experience teaching the method, I feel strongly that people represent Joseph Pilates' work accurately.

Summary: Too slow, poor narration
Review: The narrator speaks as if talking to a three-year old! It takes forever for her to complete a sentence. Secondly there are a lot of errors in the narration. For example, in the Instructions, she starts off by explaining that there's the Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. Her very next sentence was: "The difference between these TWO levels..."

Summary: Keep looking
Review: This DVD is boring. I have done other Pilates workouts that are much more invigorating. The narrator would be great for bed time stories, but is not motivating at all. If you are looking for a Pilates series that will keep your interest for more than one time through, I would suggest you keep looking.

Summary: Best Pilates buy
Review: This is the best pilates tool anyone could own. I am overweight and looking to lose weight, and after I started exercising regularly, I wanted to add both Pilates and balance ball exercises to my routine. After searching for a LONG time to find a great dvd, I found this one. It has been such a rewarding dvd for so many reasons, and I have already lost weight in combining this dvd and others in my routine. This dvd has three sections for beginners, intermediate, and advanced levels. The great thing is that each section has 5 workouts ranging from 10 minutes to 90 minutes, and you can choose a program with or without a warm-up. The instructor is great and each move is done a good amount of times. There is nice music in the background as well. What I also find to be truly invaluable in this dvd is the fact that during the workout the instructor will remind you to breathe properly, just in case you forget, and she also tells you how many are left during each exercise. I can write forever about how GREAT this dvd is, but I don't like reading long reviews myself so I wont make you! Just know that this is the #1 DVD for Pilates students at any level, from novice to advanced, and I LOVE IT!!!

Summary: Keep looking for a better video...this is only okay...
Review: This is the fourth Pilates video I have done, and I am still looking for a better one. The different levels of workouts are convenient, but this video has some unusual eccentricities that I didn't expect. 1) This woman doing the beginner workouts has terrible posture and is really uninspiring to look at. 2) The narrator/instructor always says len-then instead of lengthen- which drives me nuts! It's also full of grammatical errors in the intro lessons and interview. (ex: "The four most important things about Pilates is...")3) The workouts end abruptly with no stretches or cool downs 4) The workouts are not the same length of time as they say they are on the screen. (i.e. the 35 minute intermediate workout takes about 38 minutes!) 5) Some of the exercises are done for such a short amount of reps (ex: 8 inner thigh circles?) that you can't imagine them doing any good at all.

On the positive side- I liked the slow pace at the beginning- it's somewhat relaxing and you can really feel the stretches. The exercises are fine for the most part.

Summary: Not worth it
Review: This video is not worth the money, and I am regretting the purchase. It doesn't flow well, one second they are on their feet, they take you to the floor for one exercise, and you are up and down like that the whole video through. The woman's voice is annoying, and there are only a few of the exercises that are worth it. The warm-up and arms are a joke.
