Rating: Summary: Different type of workout video Review: -A highly recommended video. The two dance routines each have a unique flavor, neither are boring. Jennifer and Lisa offer instruction that is easy to follow and informative, do not be intimidated if you lack a background in dance. The intensity of the workout depends on you and what you put into it. Stresses the "fun" of dance and working out without being competetive and superficial. The warm-up and cool down book-end the dance routines perfectly. I look forward to this workout!
Rating: Summary: Five stars for the instructors . . . Review: and three for the cameraman or editing crew. This would have been a perfect tape if they could just stop moving the camera to different views. Keep it on the instructor, guys! The steps are fun and would be much easier to follow if the cameras were kept on the teachers. The tape is really a fun tape, the instructors are personable and very, very encouraging. They get you hooked into working hard before you know it! To begin the tape, I personally liked the second workout better because the steps seem easier to follow (probably because the cameraman forgot to be "creative.") This is a really fun tape that will work muscles you didn't know you had. I wish they would remake this tape with a new cameraman and editing crew.
Rating: Summary: Good exercise, poor video Review: As a teen dancer I have struggled to find a video that I can do at home when I don't have classes. This is the first one that actually does real dance stuff. I am very pleased with it in that regard, however the video is almost like a throwback to the 80s with crazy colors and weird instructors. It can get dull because the drums sound exactly the same the whole time, but if you're looking for a real dance video (not like those MTV Grind videos) this is a winner.
Rating: Summary: Excellent, well thought out video that mere mortals can do! Review: As disappointed as I was with Step Up To Dance, that's how happy I am with Dance To Fitness. The moves are done slowly, with posture, balance and strength being emphasized. The first segment is about 35 minutes long and is considered the "warm-up". I, for one, was dripping sweat by the end of that segment. The second segment is done with Lisa Wheeler who I really like. Then there is a wonderful stretch. As a 44 year old former aerobics instructor/belly dancer with osteoarthritis in my back and neck and with another disability that is a daily challenge, this is a workout that I can do, enjoy and feel that I'm getting alot out of. I highly recommend this tape.
Rating: Summary: BE CAREFUL! Review: I bought this exercise tape because it looked like a fun way to keep in shape. I've seriously studied many types of dance, enrolled in movement courses as well as played various sports over the course of my lifetime, but nothing could have prepared me for this video. After watching the video, I thought the drumming could be tolerated and the moves seemed easy enough to be used every once in awhile. On the first try, I dislocated my knee and was not able to exercise for 6 months. Please be careful when engaging in any movements you are not familiar with or that are too fast to consciously think where your body is moving.
Rating: Summary: Not What I Hoped For, But.... Review: I cannot stress enough what others have said: this DVD is not really for beginners. I was looking for an energetic workout that didnt have the same cheesie music and overly eager instructors, and that would help me build muscle, burn fat, and at the same time, teach me balance and poise. The set, music and instructors are perfect for what I was looking for, and yet I found myself flailing around my living room trying to keep up with the steps.
As a general rule, I have liked everything Jennifer Kries has put out. She has a excellent voice, she doesnt have that faux high energy attitude, is enjoyable to watch and to listen to, but I found myself very frustrated with her Body Rythyms section of the video. She moved quickly into steps that I found somewhat complicated, and it will certainly require some practice before I will get comfortable with that section. The sheer dance skirt she wears also makes it a touch difficult to see exactly what she is doing with her legs and feet sometimes.
Lisa Wheeler is the instructor for the second part, called Body Lines, and I had hopes that this would be the more fun, higher cardio workout. I actually found this part to be even more difficult. Ms. Wheeler takes you through the steps more slowly, but there was some very complex steps that she did not really explain how to do, and added them into the workout (like the Jazz box step). I became extremely frustrated because if you dont get one part of the series of steps down, its difficult to move to the next part.
I believe with practice and repeated viewings, or if you already have some basic dance knowledge, this tape will be a fun workout, but for someone new to working out, new to dance, or just plain uncoordinated, this tape is a test of patience.
I give it 4 out of 5 because I love the music, the set, and I like Jennifer Kries, and I believe with some patience and work, I will personally get better at this workout, but I only reccomend it to people who have never done any kind of pilates or dance with the caveat that it will take practice and patience to become proficient at these dances.
Rating: Summary: GREAT VIDEO IF YOU LOVE TO DANCE ! Review: I got this video a while back and I absoulutely love it !!! It's challenging, it's fun and it definitely get's your heart rate up. The chamera angles are a bit poor and can be distracting, so I suggest watching it through first. And take it slow if you're a beginner, like other reviewers I too started this after getting tired of an easier video. So if your starting out fresh take your time, and have fun with it.
Rating: Summary: What a fun workout! Review: I have a few of Jennifer Kries videos so thought I would try this one and I really enjoy it. Although, it's not for beginners. It helps if you watch it a few times before actually doing it and if you have a dance background. After doing each segment, I feel as though I got a good workout. If you like to rotate through workout videos, this one is a fun and challenging change.
Rating: Summary: Liked the second one better Review: I have dance experience and I found the second workout more fun because of its jazz-like moves. The camera man must really like the drummer, which was frustrating at first not to see the instructor in the first workout. I usually just do the second one, since I like it better.
Rating: Summary: Safe well put together video. Review: I have done this video for years and I think that this is a good video if you want a routine that is not too bone jarring, but still has a bit of challenge to it. The instruction on how to properly do the moves from both Jenifer Kries and Lisa Wheeler is excellent (although Jenifer Kries's portion does take practice)and you will have a good time when you get the hang of it. It's also great for people who are beginners, but because of the awkward, often wandering camera angles and moves of the video. I would use discretion and watch it through a few times before I did it. I'll admit that this isn't a video that you want to take from the box to the vcr, but it's still great. You work the muscles of your back and legs, and end the workout feeling loose and envigorated.
