Rating: Summary: too much talk, not enough yoga Review: I've been doing yoga for over 5 years now and I've found it to be really helpful for strength, toning, and relaxation. When I suddenly found myself pregnant (at 39), I wanted to continue with my yoga practice, but wanted to be sure the poses were compatible to pregnancy. So, I bought this video, hoping for guidance since I don't have a teacher right now. While the philosophy of yoga has always interested me, I was hoping for more work with postures and less talk about how wonderful yoga is for me and for my baby. At this point, I'm hoping to find either another video with more poses or a teacher who can give me a safe program. I'm really disappointed with this video.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic yoga postures, annoying visualization exercises Review: I am three months pregnant with twins, and have found the kundalini yoga postures in this video to be extremely helpful in dealing with any cramping or discomfort that have come up with my pregnancy. The exercises work on both stretching and strengthening the body. It's not overly strenuous, but is a good workout. This would be a great video for someone with no yoga experience, as the postures are easy to understand. Like other reviewers, I did find the chanting and visualization exercises to be annoying, and increasingly annoying with repeated viewing. Unless you find chanting helpful, I would recommend fast-forwarding through the chanting at both the beginning and end of the tape, and just quietly meditating on your own at the end of your workout.
Rating: Summary: Sailed through delivery thanks to yoga Review: Like some of the other reviewers, I was initially put off by the spiritual practices in this yoga video because I've always perceived yoga as just another recreation. But if you look in any elementary dictionary, you'll see that yoga means "union with the spirit." To put it plainly, the "yoga" that this video's critics wanted is not really yoga. I had never chanted or visualized before I began using this video. I felt so self-conscious, I practiced only when I was alone in the room. But after I got used to hearing myself chant and totally letting go, I realized this was more than your run-of-the-mill calisthenics. I used the breathing and the chants I learned through my labor, and my delivery was almost as I imagined, The difference being that it was much quicker--3 hours total from water breaking to holding my daughter. She and I have been blissfully practicing yoga together since she was 3 months old.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic way to nurture your body and tune-in to your baby Review: I love this video! The exercises focus on stretching and strengthening by using slow, relaxed movements and breathing. The chanting allows you to clear your mind and focus on your body and your baby. If chanting isn't your thing, deep breathing can be easily substituted. This isn't a hardcore workout, but a soothing, loving way to nurture yourself and your little one. After doing this tape, I feel strong, relaxed, flexible and totally at peace.
Rating: Summary: A bit new-agey for my liking..... Review: I began taking yoga after I became pregnant, and liked my prenatal yoga class in the area so much, that I thought I would buy a video so that I could enjoy the exercises at home too. However, I realized soon, that all yoga classes/instructors are not for me! This video is a bit too "new-agey," and I found that the instructor talked way too much. I didnt find the tape relaxing, at all. Some of the stretching exercises were okay.....
Rating: Summary: Nice and relaxing prenatal yoga video Review: This video is good for someone new to yoga. I'm pregnant and had to find something more soothing than step aerobics and spinning classes. This seems to be a good alternative, along with lots of walking and stationery bicycling. It's got a bit of chanting in the beginning and end, but nothing you can't fast forward through.
Rating: Summary: I would NOT recommend this video to any of my friends. Review: I loved doing yoga before I got pregnant and wanted to continue after as well. I purchased this video only to be disappointed. I liked doing yoga for the physical stretching/strengthening and the mental relaxation. In my opinion, this video incorporated too much spiritual philosophy into the workout. I would prefer another video with less spirtuality and more focus on the physical benefits of the poses/exercises.
Rating: Summary: An decent workout but very new age Review: This video provides a good paced stretching and strengthening workout for expectant moms. They use real pregnant women of varying shapes, sizes and flexability. Beware, the instructor is a little weird (wears a turban) and she leads off and closes with a lot of chanting and imagery, which can be distracting if you're not into that sort of stuff.
Rating: Summary: great Review: this yoga video has kept me very supple and flexible throughtout my pregnancy. i do not have any backache or swelling or cramps. this video is so easy to follow and safe for my pregnant body. although i am not too keen on all that chanting, i use that section to meditate in my own way. all-in-all, i would recommend this tape to anyone who wants to have a ache-free pregnancy.
Rating: Summary: This video leaves much to be desired. Review: I have exercised using Yoga before so this was not my first experience with it but come on, can we say light the incense bring in the finger cymbols and lets all chant! When you are pregnant you want to do something that is going to make you relax, become more pliable yet somehow energize you, this video is definitely not it!!!
