Rating: Summary: Happy Hamstrings Review: As a runner I have always suffered through tight legs. Finally, my tight legs caused my lower back to be in chronic pain and my doctor insisted that increased flexibility would reduce the pain in my back. It worked! This DVD is a nice introduction to many great stretches. Although I bought it really to help my legs, I have really found great relief throughout my entire body. Everyone keeps saying that increased flexibility improves performance. This remains to be seen in the Spring when I start racing more, but it has made my life much better!
Rating: Summary: great workout Review: Being a runner my whole life, i was looking for something to keep in shape during the winter months and this dvd was it. i read about it in runner's world and i thought that i would give it a try. i loved that i can customize my workout specifically for runners but i also can do workouts designed for athletes of different sports. and the "quickreview" feature is helpful getting the instructions a second time. i strongly recommend picking it up.
Rating: Summary: Terrific! Review: Delivers as it says - lots of great Yoga for athletes! The poses are mostly for power and flexibility. The narration is directed at the fine points of the poses while the actions are followed by the video. The DVD format is especially good for all the selections that are possible. As a long time runner and occasional yoga student I find this a terrific addition to my exercise regimen. A beginning yoga student should probably go to a class first to be able to follow well.
Rating: Summary: What A Gem! Review: Here's a DVD that could keep you busy for months with all the pre-mixed workout chapters available on it. The main menu has chapters for your chosen sport; for example, golf, running, skiing, and loads of others. Under each of those categories are many yoga workouts ranging from 20 minutes to an hour in length. You can choose from such workouts as full body, shoulders, legs, and many more (and also with a variety of lengths). The yoga itself is what I refer to as "general" Hatha style. It is slow-paced, and each pose is held for a little while, allowing you to really get into it and feel the stretch. I consider myself an intermediate-level yogist, and I find this neither too easy nor too hard -- it's just right. A male exerciser performs the exercises, and there is a female voice-over giving the instruction. She is very helpful and precise, often giving you that one little hint that makes all the difference in the pose. The set is a little bland, which is something of a drawback, but who's looking at the TV anyway?
Rating: Summary: Big disappointment... Review: I am a rock climber and was really excited to try this dvd. When I read others' reviews that said the dvd had "no flow", I figured it wouldn't really bother me (I love bikram yoga - and often the poses don't actually flow together). But this dvd is ridiculous. EVERY pose is literally seperated by a black screen and announcement, then most of the poses are done painfully slow. The poses are cut and pasted to fulfill the many, many options for work-outs, which really aren't that different (I've fast forwarded through a lot of them). It you have any yoga experience, this will drive you nuts! Also, there is absolutely no warm-up, and only some of the poses suggest a modified form. My friend who is an avid cyclist and also occasionally does yoga, agrees that this dvd is a huge disappointment.
Rating: Summary: Golf Scores And Bends Dropping Review: I golf with some friends, and when one their games started to improve I asked them what they were doing and they said yoga. They had read about this title in one of their golf newletters and tried it out. I borrowed it, then bought a copy for myself an started working with it. The exercises in the golf section have helped me feel better when I am playing and better the day after (the aches from bending and getting up and down that you feel ...) The sections for the other sports (which I do from time to time) are also good... This DVD is a good way to help your game and well worth the money, especially compared to the amount of money I otherwise spend on golf.
Rating: Summary: Nice Variety Review: I got this DVD with this company's Power Yoga Complete for Every Body and I love them both. The Power Yoga flows more, which I prefer somedays, but this one really helps me focus on the details and hold the poses for a long time, which seems to challenge my muscles while opening my body in an isometric way. Very enjoyable DVD with all the variety and choices.
Rating: Summary: High Hopes Review: I had really high hopes for this DVD, especially after seeing that the submenus take you to over 20 different workouts. However, after playing the video, I was not impressed. Now, I am an intermediate yoga practicer, but find that I prefer Vinyasa flow. This has no flow, infact, after each pose, it goes to a break with a screen telling you the name of the pose. There is no flow what so ever. Also, this is very basic. I flipped through some of the sections for each sport and found that they were all very similiar, so even when I thought I would be getting lots of workouts, they are not so different. This may be ok for a true beginner who wants to take their time to get into a pose, and not worry about how one pose flows into another, but for everyone else, just pass on this one. I wish i had.
Rating: Summary: Yoga Journal Editors Pick For Good Reason Review: I run, bike and lift weights at a gym to try to stay in shape. I also play in softball and besketball leagues (nothing serious but a fun way to get some exercise.) Some running magazines recommened yoga, which I started to do some yoga a bit. Then I saw the Yoga Journal (which I started reading a few months back and also recommend) had made this DVD their editor's choice in the September issue. I figured they knew what they are talking about, so I picked it up. And I am really glad I did. It is perfect, and accomplishes what it says; it is has increased my flexibility and helped me with all of my pursuits. The set up is easy, and the ability to target different parts of your body for different sports is great. If you are looking to implement the benfits of yoga to help with your sports then you should pick this up, well worth the money.
Rating: Summary: New to running and yoga Review: I started a running program in March and was findng that my lower back and knees were oftern tight or sore the following morning. It got so bad that I cut down to only running 3x week while I tried new shows etc., and was thinking maybe running wasn't for me. I saw this DVD in a magazine and decided to try it. It's really helped my back and knees, and I'm up to running 5x week. After only 4 weeks I'm feeling the changes. I'm getting stronger and more flexible and my running form is also getting much better. Virtually no more back pain and my knees are improving too.
