Summary: One of my favorites...
Review: I really enjoy pilates and this is one of my favorite dvds. Most of the transitions go at a fast enough pace that I feel like I am getting a good workout without having to slow down for instructions. Ana Caban is personable and gives very good instruction. For beginners to pilates I would recommend "Pilates for Dummies" as a good intro, along with the book "The Pilates Body" by Brooke Siler. As you progress, this dvd (with Ana Caban) will challenge you (try out the teasers!) and is a good workout to rotate with the Intermediate Workout on Brook Siler's CD "The Pilates Body Kit." I also have the "Classical Pilates Technique" dvd (the mat version) and would not recommend using that one until you have mastered the moves, because its instruction is really scant; however, you will get a really good workout...just watch out for injuries since the moves on that dvd are super fast.

I also like the fact that this pilates workout doesn't take 45 minutes (none of the pilates dvds I use on a regular basis do). I do pilates every other day and on in-between days I use Rodney Yee's Power Yoga for Beginners (strength, stamina and flexibility). With this workout mix I've gained lots of flexibility, my arm and shoulder muscles are better defined, and my back is super healthy -- all with just 20-30 minutes a day.

Review: I really enjoy this workout. I've been using it a few months now. It's effective and quick, and I feel and see the results of my effort.

Summary: Terrific Pilates Instruction!
Review: I took a introductory pilates 10-week course but it was expensive. So due to money and time constraints, I switched to this video after. The transition from live instructor to Ana was easy!! I recommend this video to anyone with basic pilates knowledge who is ready to move on to more of a challenge. Due to the abdominal intensity of some of the moves (especially the lower abs!) it probably isn't the best for someone new to pilates.

This is one of my favourite videos. The instruction is clear and flows nicely from start to finish. Ana Caban is very easy to follow and it is nice that she has another girl demonstrating the lower intensity versions of each move beside her. The production value is pretty bad, but unlike other videos I have tried, it didn't distract from Ana's instruction at all.

Learn the basics first, then get this video. You'll love it!

Summary: Winsor Users Don't Waste Your Cash
Review: If you use the Winsor Pilates series, even the 20-minute basic DVD, please don't waste your money on this one. It's very basic.

Summary: Great Pilates routine for advanced beginner to intermediate
Review: In this video, instructor Ana Caban builds on her Beginning Mat Work routine by providing less detailed instruction, moving a bit more quickly from one exercise to the next, and adding several more challenging Pilates moves. All of the exercises are taken from traditional Pilates matwork, including the hundred, the stomach series, the side kick series and Pilates push-ups. The workout is at an advanced beginner to intermediate level; those who have some prior familiarity with Pilates should have no problem starting with this video (but those brand new to Pilates should start with the Beginning workout).

Caban is an excellent instructor instructor: her cuing is precise, and she is motivating and friendly without being overly peppy or intimidating. She also does a good job of smoothly transitioning from one exercise to the next in the traditional Pilates style. Assisting her is a Pilates student, Tara, who does modified versions of almost all of the exercises. I'd definitely recommend this video to anyone who has some basic familiarity with Pilates and wants to move on to a more thorough and challenging workout that is still attainable at the intermediate level.

Finally, a note about the production quality: yes, the sound is a little echo-y at times and the color sometimes fades away briefly, but after you've watched the video a few times, you won't really focus on the TV; I've found that these issues do not detract from this very good Pilates workout.

Summary: This is a good one.
Review: It can be difficult to find an instructor that doesn't get on your nerves. Ana is awesome! She explains the exercises without talking down to you. I also love her form, and like the way she reminds us of form, control and fluidity. Great effective routine, love the "micromovements" too. Not everything needs to be fast and big to be effective.
Must have for your collection!

Summary: Challenging & Invigorating
Review: My background is mainly yoga but I have recently started to add Pilates to my exercise routine. This is, by far, the most challenging Pilates workout I have ever done. The only downside is that I didn't find it long enough. I like to workout for about 45 minutes and this video was about 25-30 minutes. However, there is a bonus workout at the end that's about 5 minutes long. You really need strong abs for that one. If you were to do this video a few 3-5 times a week, you'll see results.

Summary: This is okay
Review: The Intermediate Mat Workout was just okay in my opinion. I didn't feel very pushed to the limit with this workout and was very dissapointed to find that the "bonus feature" was pretty much all of the same moves with just a couple extras. I would go for the advanced version if you are someone with a little
bit of experience with Pilates.

Summary: Great video and instructor
Review: This DVD is an excellent sequel to the beginners tape. Ana Caban is a great instructor and I would recommend this workout to anyone. I can definitely tell a difference in my abs after doing this workout.

Summary: Effective and enjoyable workout
Review: This DVD is fabulous. Really. I started off using the Pilates for weight-loss with Suzanne Deason and moved on to this one when I wanted to get a stronger workout with a more traditional Pilates approach (Suzanne Deason's is more yoga-centric technique, using Pilates fundamentals, but with greater latitude). The workout in the Pilates intermediate mat workout is challenging, with modifications offered if you need then. Ana Caban does an EXCELLENT job of cueing and explaining how to execute a movement (and what not to do) in terms that are clear and helpful. The workout is about half and hour, which seemed short to me, but the reason is because you are working towards being able to perform the full Pilates floor mat set and the more advanced movements are left out. Even though it is only half an hour (and its flies by) the workout leaves you feeling as though you have accomplished more that you would have in an hour at the gym. I have been using this workout for two weeks and the results are incredible - my posture, waist size, abdominal strength and weight have all improved. I only wish that Ana Caban did an advanced video so that I could have something to look forward to when I get there. I do suggest getting a book for additional reference when needed - the Brook Stiler book and the Alycea Ungaro are the two best out there.
