Rating: Summary: Not enough salsa Review: I am very active and 29 weeks along in my pregnancy. I exercise at least 5 days a week. Typically I walk, use the eliptical machine, spin and lift weights. I was looking for a workout video i could use on the mornings i didn't make it to the gym. After reading several reviews i thought this was the video for me. I was so excited when it arrived, I made sure i did the video the next morning. This tape turned out to be totally NOT for me. I found the tape to be extremely boring and i did not feel as though i had a good workout when the video was over. The 20 min. of salsa is the best part but just not long enough. I would like the video if the majority of the time was spent doing the salsa. I just feel that the Yoga is too slow and boring. It would have been nice to have a try before you buy on this video, because i would not have bought it.
Rating: Summary: Think twice before buying this DVD Review: I bought this DVD mostly due to the positive reviews I read on Amazon. However, after watching the programs on the DVD and working through all of them, there are some major negatives of the workouts that should be addressed. There are two long (~20 minute) workouts and 2 shorter (less than ten minute) programs on the DVD. The first workout is the best one on the DVD, in my opinion, and the theme is salsa/mambo dancing. Although this workout is relatively easy and fun, I was disappointed that Leisa Hart didn't go into a longer warm-up and warm-down. As a first trimester pregnant woman, I feel the warm-ups and warm-downs are even more important to my health and safety when working out. The second workout is awful, in my opinion. It's entitled "Yoga Fat-Burn" and attempts to combine aerobics with yoga poses and stretches. Many of the positive reviews related to this program were apparently from women that had not tried yoga before or did not understand the purpose of yoga. Here are the negatives I found with this program: -Incorrect positioning during stretches that place strain on certain parts of the body (most notably, the knees) -Inconsistent and counterintuitive (if you have performed yoga previously) breathing suggestions -Despite suggestions for modifications (depending on your trimester) during some movements, Leisa Hart does not demonstrate mastery of yoga or understanding what places stress on the body. Most notably, she attempts a modified triangle pose stretch that includes side bending aerobics. This movement is not beneficial and risks strain. -Use of yoga props would be very useful in some areas of this program, but Leisa Hart does not mention modifications using yoga bricks, etc. -This program is also sorely lacking adequate warm-up and warm-down phases. The last two short programs focus on stretching and breathing. Although some of the stretches are yoga-based, Leisa Hart's approach is once again faulty. For example, during a single-leg stretch (amazingly she discovered the use of a yoga prop - the yoga strap for this move), she tells women to pull themselves forward using their arms, instead of bending from the waist and using their back muscles. This suggestion not only defeats the purpose of stretching and working muscles simultaneously, but risks strain. She also does not perform some stretches that would provide maximum benefit (e.g. bent leg instead of straight leg during a floor-based side bend). If some of the warm-up/warm-down stretches in the short programs were added to the beginning and end of the long programs, I would have a higher opinion of this DVD. As currently presented, with sloppy yoga approach and poor organization, I would highly recommend women try another DVD for pregnancy fitness. Although I will keep the DVD, I have chosen to only practice the first long program, the salsa/mambo dance sequence. For pre natal yoga practice, I highly recommend pregnant women consider "The New Method Pre Natal Yoga" DVD (I bought The New Method Pre & Post Natal Yoga 2 Pack DVD Box Set). Although there are some old age concepts (e.g. practicing squats for traditional birth position, some chanting, etc.), Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa does a great job explaining the role of body, mind, and the relationship between the two during yoga exercises and childbirth. See my review on this product for more information.
Rating: Summary: Best Prenatal Exercise DVD EVER!!! Review: Simply FANTASTIC!!! I own several workout videos, since I got pregnant had to knock it down a notch with the stepping exercises. FitMama is the next BEST thing; I recommend it over and over again!!! I have absolutely no yoga experience but the exercises were easy to follow and fun. You get your 20 minutes Salsa cardio, 20 min Yoga Fat burn, 6 min Labor & Delivery Prep, and Finally 8 min session of stretches and relaxation exercises. This DVD has it ALL!!! After finishing the exercises my husband complimented me on how relax I looked, and I definitely feel better. I am very happy with this purchase.
Rating: Summary: very good pace, just what i needed Review: i liked the way Leisa Hart instructs you during this pregnancy workout, I don't workout that much and to do it during pregnancy is hard, but she is very good at giving the right amount of instruction, she teaches you safety points and goes over the moves thoroughly...she is a great instructor and role model for me. I loved this video.
Rating: Summary: fab Review: truly fabulous prenatal activity, i simply loved this workout and the style in which the instructor Leisa Hart presents it, a five star rating indeed!
Rating: Summary: Not GREAT! Review: I don't really like this workout tape. I thought I would love it because I love salsa but the salsa section is boring and repetetive. The yoga section is also way to repetetive. The toning and relaxation are ok but could be better. I much prefer my other tapes over this one. I workout most days and only use this about once a week because I feel like I should so that I don't waste my money. I see others like it but for me, I wish I could get my money back.
Rating: Summary: great prenatal tape, awesome workout Review: after having 2 kids and being able to run and lift weights without any problems, my doctor advised me to find a better workout during this pregnancy and she definitely recommnended Leisa Hart, first because she exercises to Hart's videos and has for years, and plus she is using FitMama during her current pregnancy which is a hoot. I love this video, the workout is awesome. I love it, and am utilizing Hart's MBC Yoga videos since I heard from my doc that she uses MBC Yoga also and has for a couple years, as it turns out Hart was in her second trimeseter with her first kid in those vidoes. She is a top instructor and does a wonderful job making all her videos so personal and fun.
Rating: Summary: excellent workout especially for third trimester Review: I thought this dvd was great!! I am in my third trimester and was finding it hard to contiue on my current exercise program which consisted of using the treadmill and weights, so I purchased this dvd a little concerned that I wouldn't get the same workout. I couldn't have been more wrong!! It was fun and energizing!! I highly recommed it!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent, Fun, Sassy, Feminine Moves Review: I love this video. The moves are great. Lisa is enjoyable to watch, follow and listen to.
Rating: Summary: great value, enjoyed the prenatal specific choreography Review: I've bought just about every prenatal video that has been offered here at amazon.com and vote this FitMama video as the best bang for the buck, it's worth twice as much as this. You get 60 minutes of great cardio, toning, stetching, and labor and delivery training. Other videos cost more that are only 30 minutes long and don't offer half as much as FitMama. i thought the instructor was wonderful, she looked inspiring and sounded inspiring. I really liked how I don't have to modify anything really in this video, it's done for me. The choreography was great and uncomplicated. I can't wait for Leisa Hart's postnatal video, it should be fun to see how she looks after having another baby. This is the best valued video I've bought here.
