Rating: Summary: Most relaxing workout ever. I WAS a beginner Review: I tried this video having no experience with yoga before. I felt rejuvinated when finished. The cinematography is compelling, and the instructions are easy to follow. You can take this at your own pace and pause in between exercise groupings when you feel you may need a break without messing up the rest of the workout. When I was finshed I was a little sore, but who isn't after a first workout? I felt open, and a bit jell-o like when finished. The end is the *best* part. You'll find a calmer, newer you after you get into the rhythm. Just pay attention to your breathing and you'll do great!
Rating: Summary: Great in the long term! Review: Though I've been working out regularly for 10 years, this was the first yoga tape i bought. And I'm really glad I went with it. I was unsure whether I would get the workout i wanted from yoga, but I found that with this tape i had nothing to worry about. I especially like it because I've been able to use it over a long period of time. The poses were challenging at first, but as i got better at them they became challenging in a different way (you'll see what i mean), so I didn't have to run out and buy another video immediately. I like to use it in conjunction with other forms of cardio, though. It feels best when you do it after a half-hour run. I would definitely reccommend it to people interested in trying yoga. Just make sure you have a mat or a carpet. Doing it on a wood floor with neither is pretty uncomfortable.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Video! Review: I had to watch a little of the video first then I did it all the way through. The repeating of poses is helpful when learning. I felt stronger and more flexible afterwards! As a runner, this exercise really gave me a different type of workout. I reccommend it!
Rating: Summary: Too Difficult for a Beginner Review: Although the scenery is beautiful and the actors represent all ages well, I felt the moves were too difficult for a beginner and some of the poses the actors could do were a bit intimidating for a novice.I think I would enjoy the video more after learning the basic moves and increasing my flexibility before attempting the poses in this video.
Rating: Summary: Ali MacGraw Rocks! Review: I'm not a big fan of yoga, but this is one video I do every week. The scenery is unbelievable and the music is soothing without being distracting. It's a long tape and the moves are more advanced, so you should know how to do some basic yoga poses before you do this tape. I keep hoping I'll become as flexible as Ali is, but am still waiting! Great video.
Rating: Summary: My favorite Yoga Video! Review: This is one of my favorite yoga videos. The music and movements make it fun and invigorating, not boring like some other yoga tapes. I think it is great for both beginning and intermediate students, just don't expect to be able to move like the advanced people on the tape do. It is nearly an hour long but the time goes by very quickly. I also love that you don't need any props to do the poses.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely NOT for beginners... Review: I was looking for a beginners video to "get my feet wet" in yoga. While I think this is a beautiful video and very useful to those already practicing yoga, it is definately not for beginners. The poses are impossible which is quite frustrating. There are no beginner variations for these poses either. It wasn't until I bought another video that I learned about "blocks". Had this video included this information it would have been slightly easier. I suggest purchasing a BEGINNER video and using the Yoga Mind & Body video as something to work up to. As I said before, it is a beautiful video and once I work my way up to it I am sure I will enjoy it. The scenery is wonderful, the voices are soft and calming, and there are men and women in the video, but those poses are impossible for a beginner. I hope this helps.
Rating: Summary: WHERE IS THIS TAPED? Review: What a beautifully done video! The scenery is so calming and relaxing. I would love to go to this white sand desert and watch the sun set! And now for the video. It is not for beginners, unless you are already very flexible or you can develop your own modifications. I took yoga a long time ago, so I am familiar with the breathing and how to modify the asanas, so it was OK for me and actually provided something to aspire to. This video is pretty new for me, and there are still many poses I cannot do fully, but I find it to be an effective workout anyway. Bending a knee here and there, touching my calves instead of the floor, or holding onto something for balance has helped me to get through this video while also feeling calm, relaxed, and like I am doing something! All of the yoga students are wonderful. Ali McGraw is beautiful and an inspiration. She is graceful and serene at all times. Eric Schiffman is a wonderful teacher. His voice is soothing and his directions are clear. I'm also glad that they don't show him doing all of the poses because he is so advanced and it's hard to aspire to be like him because I just look at him and think that it will be years before I am that good! But he really is fantastic! Also, the cinamatography is done well.
Rating: Summary: Lower back probs? This video fixed mine! Review: I had a serious car accident and endured a year of searching for relief from almost unbearable lower back pain. I was given medication (muscle relaxants, pain killers). I was sent to physiotherapy (they stretched me, taught me stretches) I was sent to a chiropractor (he cracked me...) I was sent to a different physiotherapy center (with lots of exotic machines). I went for massage therapy. They all felt good ... for a while. None of them fixed the problem of stiffness and pain. One day, I saw Yoga Mind and Body and thought "I've always wanted to try yoga...what can it hurt?" THE VERY FIRST TIME I did the stretches I felt as though someone had put a heat lamp against my lower back. When I was done, I had more mobility than in a year. I did it a few more days -- and found the mobility growing and pain lessening. I thought it was psychosomatic because NOTHING could possibly work so fast after a year of trying everything. But it did. For months I was a good girl, did my yoga at least 4-5 times a week. After several months I felt good as new. Now, 5 years later, I'm not AS good as I know I should be but if I'm going on a long trip (car, plane, whatever) I do Yoga Mind and Body before and after. No problems. If I'm going horseback riding or skiing -- yoga beforehand. Overall I try to do it 2-3 times a week. If you buy this video you'll build a great habit for the rest of your life. Erich Shiffman is wonderful -- a calm reassuring presence, Ali McGraw is an inspiration, the music and visuals are all beautiful, calming. This video really isn't hard and after a while, you'll feel almost as though you're doing a graceful, slow-motion dance routine. As a bonus, you'll also be in a great mood when it's done! I love this video and have bought it as a gift for half a dozen friends.
Rating: Summary: Yoga for beginners Review: I bought this tape b/c I wanted to start yoga but wasn't really sure where to begin. I live in a small town without much yoga influence. I really enjoy this tape. I try to do it two or three times a week. The tape really shows you how to get into position and the breathing is very loud so you don't forget to keep doing it. The instructor does a decent job of making sure he is talking throughout all the positions. I would recommend getting a yoga book of beginning positions just to make sure you are doing them all correctly. Keep in mind that yoga as with any exercise should be approached slowly. Do as much as you comfortably can at first. Its better to build up than to try and do everything at once.
