Rating: Summary: Its ok, but not really benificial... Review: I thought it was too flashy; and the yoga was not that great. I would suggest Kripalu Yoga:Dynamic, Kundalini Yoga: With Grace and Strength, or Kundalini Yoga with Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa. I own all three and they are all better than this one. To put it simply, this video seems to be a slick yoga fad production. The only thing I found benificial where the stretches, but the Kripalu Yoga:Dynamic is much much better in this respect. I bought this video based on the reviews, specific b/c someone mentioned this was a harder than usual yoga workout. Its not.
Rating: Summary: One of the best I've seen Review: I'm giving it only 4 stars because I find the music at times distracting and inappropriate. Drumbeats don't go with a yoga tape in my opinion. As far as difficulty, some reviewers have said they find it too hard. I am unable to do extreme backbends such as upward bow, nor can I do arm balances and headstands. This has none of those. I've bought some Rodney Yee tapes such as Yoga for Strength which say beginner on them and found myself feeling completely incompetent when I viewed the tape. I think that anyone who has had some basic yoga will be able to do this tape unless you've taken classes that are just meditation or stretching. I'm not knocking the people who say this tape is hard and not for beginners, it just makes me wonder what they've been doing in their yoga classes. I've taken some classes that never do the types of poses on this tape. I'm 39 years old and definitely not an athlete. Mostly I work from tapes, and this is only the 3rd one I've found that I consider a keeper. I also own Rodney Yee's Yoga Conditioning for Athletes and Suzanne Deason's Yoga for Weight Loss (even though it's a little slow and really isn't for weight loss). I despise sun salutations and they are quite bearable the way they are done here. Lastly, I feel absolutely great when I am done with this tape. It really helps my tight hips, back and shoulders.
Rating: Summary: Very Difficult for those new to yoga with little instruction Review: Although the scenery and bodies in this video are lovely and nice to watch, the yoga poses move quickly from one to another with very little instruction on proper form. I am 31 and exercise every day and take a yoga class for 1 1/2 hrs a week. i am in good shape and throughout the video I couldn't help thinking how many people have probably gotten hurt doing it. If you are very experienced in yoga, I would say go for it. If not, pass on this video and consider one that is for beginner to intermediate.
Rating: Summary: For those who want a stronger body and total awareness Review: I feel that this video has been wonderfully put together. The scenery is both beautiful and relaxing to look at, and the music helps with the moves as well as helping your ability to focus. Perhaps maybe a little challenging for someone completely new to yoga or exercise, but with perseverance, the rewards are wonderful. You will become aware of the improvement and changes that take place very quickly with your body. Erich Schiffmann narates over the video and his voice is soothing as he throughly explains what you should be doing while encouraging you to hold wonderful poses and to become focused and aware of what your body is doing and how it feels. I love this video and look forward to doing it every day. I don't even feel that it is nearly an hour long because the time goes so quickly as it is so enjoyable. A 'must have'
Rating: Summary: Life changing Review: Videos have come and gone...all trying to improve our lives and makes us feel.. or look better. Guess what? This one delivers! Everything from the background music, voice instruction, technique and pacing of this video, are the best you will find. My whole life has changed. I'm now lean, calm, strong and more healthy than I have ever been. So..run don't walk to get this one...you'll never be the same.
Rating: Summary: More than Exercise Review: I have lived with this video for over 5 years now and have read Erich Schiffman's book as well. What strikes me about this video is the philosophy which runs deeply throughout the instruction and commentary. As in the relaxation at the end when Mr Schiffman says "Love is what's left when you let go of everything you don't need". Upon reading his book, I discovered that Mr Schiffman was a student of J. Krishnamurti and taught yoga for several years at a Krishnamurti school. If you are familiar with the ideas of Krishnamurti as well as a practicioner of yoga, this video offers a uniquely valuable insight into the practice of yoga. I highly recommend this video.
Rating: Summary: Was My First Yoga Tape... Review: A few years ago I bravely attempted Yoga for the first time after having read favorable reviews about Ali McGraw's Yoga VHS tape. I remember finding a couple positions above a beginner's level, but it didn't take long before I could do them after some consistent Yoga sessions. The moves are at just the right pace & speed, allowing sufficient time for breathing, meditation, stretching & full relaxation- unlike several Yoga tapes I've tried out since finding this one. I tend to either have a nap or at night, sleep after, so consider it a warning not to do this tape before going to work. It will completely relax you into a peaceful state. You will just want to sleep, or be.
Rating: Summary: SECOND REVIEW - BY FAR THE BEST! Review: Although I originally wrote a review within the first month of owning this tape - it has now been almost two years - and I write another review as a followup. THIS is by far the best yoga tape out there - and I wished it was higher up in the ratings, above the RODNEY YEE videos. In comparison, this is YOGA - peace of mind, working the body. Rodney Yee's videos usually turn into jumpy moves, and desperate attempts on keeping up. ALI Macgraws video may be slower paced, but you hold the poses longer, which leads to great flexibility in the end. Not for the out of shape beginner. Wow, this video has not gotten old after two years, and I may order a new copy soon just because my old one is worn out! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
Rating: Summary: My favorite workout Review: I have many videos that I use and this is my favorite. The setting is beautiful and I really love the music. Erich Schiffman is a great teacher (his book is really helpful, too). No matter what kind of mood I'm in when I start this workout, I feel better when I'm done..it is strenuous at times, but also very relaxing...I thoroughly enjoy it and reach for it often.
Rating: Summary: This video rocks!! Review: If you're a beginner at yoga yet want a real challenge, this is the video for you. It is engaging and won't bore you to sleep like all of the other videos I've tried. Unlike other workout videos with fake sets and surroundings this video is shot against a beautiful backdrop in the desert with inspiring music. Lastly, it is a great introduction to yoga as well as a great workout. I highly recommend this video.
