Rating: Summary: very hip, but there are a lot of better videos out there Review: I have been practicing yoga almost daily since 1998. I mainly do Iyengar or Astanga style, but also do Bikram (hot yoga) on a regular basis. I have seen a lot of videos and been to a lot of studios. The music in this video is hip and the people are beautiful, but if you're a beginner, you'll most likely find it very confusing. What annoyed me most about it was that they never really showed full body shots of what the instructors were doing. They show a head, switch to a leg, go to the guy in the back, hit part of the girl going the beginning workout, and then bounce around again. You'd think it was shot by the same company who does NYPD Blue. This video would have been much better had they put a static camera on one guy and let the use switch between then via the multi-angle button. It's a great workout (very astanga based), but if you're a beginning, I'd suggest going to a studio to learn the basics or getting a video by Rodney Yee.
Rating: Summary: fabulous workout. Review: Usually when I try to do yoga...the breath cuing is all off...they tell you to breath to counts that NO ONE EVER breathes in and it makes the workout more difficult and not natural. This video has the best breath cuing I've ever seen. Very precise...and reasonable. The workout itself is fabulous...with interesting variations...a bit of "power yoga" and some medium speed sets. the music isn't too overbearing for the workout...and blends into the background. There are some difficult moves and balance poses...which take some time to master if you haven't done yoga long...but there are also things that can be done with ease immediately. There are three different levels for each pose so you can progress as well. And my favorite part...it wasn't all "new-agey" and "pseudo-spiritual" The word "Chakra" was not said once. That alone is enough to make the video worth a try. In addition, it's an incredibly good priced video... If you are into yoga and would prefer NOT to hear some flaky 20 year old nymphette talk about chakra's and astral healing...then this is definitely the workout video for you!
Rating: Summary: awesome Review: this is a great yoga dvd for the beginner to the more flexible advanced yogi. It gives a full, satisfying, and peaceful workout to some great music. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Get up, Get going...... Review: This DVD is great if you want to break a sweat and get your heart pumping as well. I purchased it because the reviews said it was for intermediate yoga levels and that it would shake things up. I am not interested in lolly-gagging around on the mat. I want to get going and I want a real workout. This DVD is very close to the yoga classes I take twice a week. I did not want a DVD where you just lay around and pretend to meditate. It is perfect for the days they make us stay home because the roads are icy or if I just don't feel like communing with humans that day. It serves me well. Good show !, Kiwi
Rating: Summary: Great overall tape Review: I've been studying yoga on and off for about 10 years. I was looking for something relatively short (with a 10-month-old I don't have a lot of uninterrupted work out time) and thorough that would help me practice at home and this is it. I've used some Patricia Walden tapes which I think are good for really learning the poses, but they do get boring. I tried Beryl Bender Birch's tape and found that there wasn't enough actual instruction and she seemed really distant, the class wasn't fun at all. The instructor here is great, mellow and informative -- it's just like being in a good yoga class. As you're in each pose, she offers tips on getting more out of it and really helps keep you in alignment. The poses are challenging enough that I feel it the next day and the pace of the asanas is very good. Loved the emphasis on breathing, which is so key to yoga. My only complaint is that the final relaxation sequence could be longer, I always feel a bit rushed.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Video Review: I have been doing this video every day for two weeks now and I am amazed at the difference I see in my body already! Before this video I had never tried yoga and now I am doing the intermediate level. I find this video very enjoyable and most of all RELAXING!
Rating: Summary: A Definite Must For Everyone! Review: I used MTV Yoga for the first time yesterday, and I'm greatful that I purchased it. This was my frist time to try yoga. It was simple, but at the same time I recieved a great workout. All of my muscles feel tightened from last nights yoga session, and I can't wait to see what I'll look like in a couple weeks! You should be flexible if you order this video because I wouldn't rate it as a beginners yoga tape, although you could always work up to the more advance positions through time. All in all, I'm happy I bought this & recommend it highly.
Rating: Summary: The only workout I've ever been able to stick to! Review: I absolutely love this video. I am relatively new to yoga and bought this DVD when I had advanced beyond the Yoga Zone beginning-level videos. (I wouldn't recommend this for a first-timer who doesn't already know the postures...) I've been doing MTV Yoga 4-5 times per week for the last 6 weeks and already I am seeing incredible results. I have dropped two pants sizes, my posture is better than it's ever been in my life, and my chronic back pain has gone away completely. Most importantly, I enjoy this workout and therefore I do it as often as I can. Overall I think the instructor is great, and I like having three levels of each posture to follow so there is always room for advancement. My only annoyance with the instructor is that she's inconsistent with the timing of her breathing. She tends to talk for a long time (describing the postures and various modifications) and then always jumps to "Inhale, Exhale" whenever she happens to be done talking... whereas if you are carefully regulating your breaths, you will be exhaling when she wants you to inhale or be mid-breath when you are supposed to start a breath. I tend to get distracted by this and have to interrupt my breath pattern to get back in sync with her instruction. Still, I think this is a great workout and it's nice to finally have a yoga option that avoids the new-age cheesiness of most yoga videos.
Rating: Summary: Awesome! Review: This was an excellent workout! I've been doing a beginner yoga video for a few months, it was very elementary and boring. MTV Yoga challenged me and was a lot more fun. Some of the poses are more advanced and a little harder to do, if you're used to one of those "beginner" videos, as I was. But I found myself actually laughing as I was doing it, because I was having fun trying those harder poses, and giggling when I'd practically fall over from lack of balance, I'm sure I'll get better with practice! But I really reccommend this video, I can REALLY feel it today, I'm sore, and thats wonderful, I feel great. I never felt like this the day after those other videos!
Rating: Summary: Great Workout! Review: This was such a great workout! I was very impressed with the entire dvd. The instructor is phenominal and walks you through everything. I loved the soft beat of the music in the background. Many videos bore me with the music/background sounds. This video kept my attention and before I knew it, I had a great 53 minute workout. I will definitely keep this workout!
