Rating: Summary: 20 mins of fast paced workout after 15 mins of explanations Review: MTV yoga is a decent dvd after the first 10-15 minutes of silly pep talk. It is fast paced and you will most likely break a sweat. I have been doing yoga for only a year but am in pretty good shape (run long distance, marathons, work out) and have been looking for a video that will not just keep telling me to breathe. Among the pros for this one is: once it gets going it is fast paced. The cons though are: way too short. I think there is a total of 20 minutes of hard workout which is not enough for a good yoga session - should be at least 45-50 minutes to go through more poses. I also purchased the MTV power yoga and that one goes to the point faster and I like it better - however it is still not long enough. If you are in good shape and want something decent - do not buy this one - buy the MTV Power Yoga one as both of them have the same basic stuff. MTV Power Yoga wastes less time on pep talk and covers slightly more. But even that one should be complemented by other videos.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Yoga Workout Review: This DVD is great! The length (about 45 minutes) is perfect. I especially love the warm-up, it really gets your body warm and ready for the rest of the stretches/exercises. Someone new to yoga should watch the end first, where the instructor explains some of the poses in more detail. This is a great video for someone who would like to try yoga, but isn't into all of the meditation or "spiritual" aspects of yoga. This is definitely a workout, and is a great addition to my workout regimine that typically include pilates and walking.
Rating: Summary: A yoga practice to take you to the next level. Review: An intelligent sequence of strengthening and stretching exercises, set to interesting but not intrusive music. Initially aerobically challenging, but within a week satisfying, fun, and relaxing. I own 6 Yoga DVD's, and this one is my favorite. Not for the practitioner looking to meditate or breathe incense!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely not for beginners Review: This is a brisk paced Vinyasa yoga. The instructor Kristin McGee cannot be faulted but the modifications shown won't help a beginner. The background exercisers do not always demonstrate good form so please watch Kristin and don't even try and jump in and out of the poses unless you know you can. The camera work isn't good enough for a workout video let alone yoga so Kristin's good cueing is doubly valuable. The music sounds like muzak to me but each to his or her own and it's easy to switch it off. The nightclub setting is a drawback because it really is too dark. It almost looks like a pub! It's great to see intermediate and advanced yoga videos on the market but they need to be clearly labelled. I think I would have enjoyed this as an audio CD (minus the dull muzak) because then I wouldn't have to see that dingy pub setting! I'll be getting rid of this one but I'm interested in seeing the follow-up MTV Power yoga also by Kristin, which is filmed outside. Hopefully it will have better camera work and better background exercisers.
Rating: Summary: Nice and challenging Review: I enjoyed the uniqueness of this dvd. Being mtv, the atmosphere was expectably hip and modern which is a nice alternative for younger people trying to get into yoga. The workout is challenging, like I had hoped it would be. Kristin McGee does a good job at reminding you to breathe, but there isnt much emphasis on abs, which is where i need the most help. There are a few short exercises that focus on abs, but not enough to make a difference for me. Overall, it was a good workout though, and I would recommend this dvd to someone who enjoys the vinyasa style of yoga. If you are into slow and relaxing yoga, this fast paced workout is not for you. I also like how there is the option of turning off the background music, which makes it possible for me to use my own music and still hear the instructor. The only thing I didn't like about this dvd is the video quality seemed kind of poor for an mtv production. Also,I do agree with someone else's review on how Lori wasn't very beneficial to the dvd. She plays the role of the "inquisitive beginner yogi." And that seems exactly what it is-- a role. She seems like she is trying to act like she is doing a skit for an infomercial or something. I just think she seemed unnatural acting and kind of awkward. Then sometimes Kristin will position Lori into her positions for her. Whenever she does this, It always looks very sexual to me because Lori makes seductive faces, and Kristin seems to caress Lori's body, coaxing it into positions. I just found it kind of weird looking. That's not important though, just an observation.
Rating: Summary: A breath of fresh air for Yogis Review: I was pleasantly surpised with this workout. It's slow enough for beginners but fast enough for the intermediate to the advanced. The music is great, fits the mood of the workout - very urban-like! Kristin Mcgee's instructions are concise (not chatty), easy-to-follow but at the same time challenging. She explains and shows alternate positions for the diffenent levels of yoga. Overall, it's fun and effective!
Rating: Summary: A good work out, but... Review: I can't help it, I just find Lori from the Real World SO ANNOYING, that it kind of ruins the experience for me. And I like Yoga to be a work-out, but also kind of relaxing, and this instructor seems wound really tight--she also gets on my nerves. I would NOT recommend this for a beginner, bec. if you don't know the poses you could seriously injure yourself, but if you're at beginner/intermediate and like a vinyasa flowing style of Yoga (rather than an emphasis on holding poses), this is generally a good work out, despite the presence of Lori. I guess if you look at this more as a work-out, and less of a yoga experience (meaning that you get stress-release, clarity, etc), then it's fine.
Rating: Summary: Fast pace, "modernized" yoga, not for me! Review: I'm 28 years old. My husband and I tried this DVD but found it to be way too fast pace for us. You won't find soft music and a calming voice here. You transition from one pose to another very quickly, living up to the term "workout". The music definitely sounds like something you would here on MTV, unfortunately I don't recognize the band enough to give you the name. The instructor was good in that she verbally guides you through each movement and you get to learn the name of each pose. Positioning behind the instructor are three individuals, each doing a different level of the same pose. This was a great idea, however, I found the zooming in and zooming out, camera focusing on one individual at a time, to be very distracting. In general, I found this to be way too fast pace for me. I like yoga for its relaxed atmosphere, but I didn't find it in this DVD.
Rating: Summary: A tough yoga workout with an excellent instructor! Review: I have been doing yoga for a couple of years at gyms or yoga studios. Recently I started purchasing yoga DVDs to do more workouts at home. I have purchased yoga DVDs that have come highly recommended or were taught by "renowned" instructors and I have to say that I have always been sorely disappointed until now. This DVD is the best one I have run across yet! Once you have done other yoga DVDs and you can compare, you will see how important it is to have a yoga instructor that focuses on breathing and coaches you through it. Kristin McGee does an awesome job at this. Breathing is the most important aspect of yoga - it is what helps you get the most out of every pose. I can't stand it when a yoga instructor moves through poses and never focuses on how you should be breathing (i.e. Denise Austin). McGee is a phenomenal instructor! The music is fantastic - not the new age type blah. The workout is a little more fast-paced than other yoga workouts I have done, but it gives you incredible results after only a few workouts (trust me on this one). It is the first DVD workout that I have been able to stick to religiously. Though this workout is definitely not for yoga beginners, if you are looking for a challenging, fun yoga workout this DVD is a must for your collection!
Rating: Summary: excellent practice! Review: This is a great video/DVD to have in your collection. My favourite thing about it is the sequence of postures and that Kristin Mcgee is a very cool instructor. She reminds you to breathe and gives great tips for adjustment without being overbearing or annoying. The only thing I don't like about the video is the music (which you can turn off on the DVD) but that's just a matter of taste. Get this one and it will be a staple in your practice.
