Summary: Great if you want a low impact, total body workout
Review: "Step Workout" is a 5-star tape for beginning to intermediate exercisers, or for advanced steppers on low-energy days. I usually do the much more high-energy, high impact "Fat Burning Breakthrough (Kathy Smith)" and "Reebok Intense Moves (Gin Miller)." On days when I want an easier tape but still get a complete workout, this is my favorite.

If you have never followed an exercise tape before, this tape will get you started and will be the only tape you need for cardio, weight loss, toning, and stretching for quite a while. There is a lot of instruction on proper stepping technique, especially in the special "learning strategies" section at the end.

It is low impact, so there is almost no jumping. When you become ready for more intensity, you can jump the moves and/or raise the level of your step.

Eventually you will get tired of the repetition and need more intense cardio and more intense strength training. The workout is less interesting than some of Kathy Smith's other videos, but the cueing is easy to follow.

You can easily vary the length of the workout from 30 minutes to 70 minutes, depending on how much of a workout you want. The final 5-minute stretch segment is very good, so don't skip that.

Summary: This is not a work out!
Review: I purchased 2 of Kathy Smith's videos and they are now going to GoodWill. I cannot follow her work-outs. This girl is all over the map and the camera man is more interested in showing us her chest than what her arms and legs are doing. Also, the routines themselves are difficult to follow and extremely jerky. I have other work out videas that are smooth and easy to follow. I do not recommend Kathy Smith unless you feel the need to lose your balance and break an ankle.

Summary: One of My Favorites
Review: A great total body workout. fun, challenging and not only works on your lower body but you will get the chance to work on your abs and upper body as well. Kathy does not seem to forget a single muscle. She will work them all for you.

Summary: Great Low Impact For Beginners!
Review: I really enjoy this video!

I am recovering from a back injury and have not been able to workout as I'm used to.
I have been looking for a REALLY low impact workout and have tried Pilates but it left me wanting more.
Something with Oompfh!
This is it!
No real jumping, just Basic Step.
I have to admit that I have not used my step since the early 90's and it had cobbwebs on it!
I forgot what a great cardio workout it was.
Not trendy by all means, but if you are in search of a low impact workout, try this, gets your heart pumping without killing you!
I am also using this video with The Quick Fix: Total Mix Workout System. You can do these exercises after the step workout for toning.
Check it out!

Summary: Great Tape
Review: This is a great step workout tape, I am going to try Kathy's new Power step aerobics because I have been doing this one for so long. Its only 40 min tho, I wish it were longer...

Summary: Fun!
Review: I just got this tape a few weeks ago, but it's already taken over as number 1 in my collection. The leg work is repetitious, but the arm movements keep the workout interesting.

Do wish Kathy would give up that "aha" sound, but other than that, she is a great motivator. The queing is excellent, easy to follow.

Summary: Excellent for both beginners and advanced "steppers"
Review: This has to be one of the best step videos, and best Kathy Smith videos, I've used. I first purchased the tape approximately 5 years ago and it is still used once a week in my 5 day routine. The general concensus on Kathy is either you love her (solid, basic choreography) or hate her (miscued videos, too "cheery"); this is one even for those who fall into the latter category. The moves are fairly basic, yet remain challenging. Her direction is pretty good on this one. If you want to try step but feel it may be intimedating, try this one. If you have been doing step for awhile, you will be pleasantly surprised that it still can be challenging.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Not for me.
Review: I rated this video as a 2 because I feel it's boring and annoying. Kathy doesn't step to the beat of the music and she seems to be overly trying to enjoy herself. I've tried this tape 3 times and have decided that it's not worth doing because I get too annoyed.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good (upper body toning) but boring at times
Review: Good workout
I, personally, find first 20 minutes of the workout to be very boring - the same movements over and over again...Music does not go very well with the rythm chosen by Kathy....
Other than that, this workout is one of the best in the market, mainly because it has all you can ask for, including the upper body toning which I love.
