Rating: Summary: Great for beginners!! Review: Much better than the yoga class I'm taking. This video explains exactly how to do all of the poses and where you should feel thre stretches so you know if you are doing it right. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Excellent tape for beginners Review: I am new to yoga and have found some of the other "beginner" tapes assume the viewer knows the name of the poses and the proper stances. In this tape you are taken step by step through the poses with excellent cueing to make sure the form is correct. The instructor is non-threatening and provides ample modifications, both to make the pose easier or more challenging. I highly recommend this tape.
Rating: Summary: great for beginners Review: I rented the video at my local public library, and I liked it and the instructor enough to buy the DVD. Sara Ivanhoe is very likeable, and does not condescend to those of us just starting out with the yoga thing. However, after I watched it a few times, I no longer needed all of the exhaustive instructions. I wish the DVD also had a version of the basic workout without the instructions. The bonus beginning-intermediate workout on the DVD is a nice addition.I learned a lot from this DVD - I just hope I never get caught doing my forward bends in my cubicle at work!
Rating: Summary: Easy pace, relaxing and wonderful for a beginner Review: I have been curious about yoga for some time. It seemed like it would be something I'd really enjoy, so i joined a gym that had classes in yoga. What they didn't tell me is that the classes were intermediate to advanced workouts - and I had never even watched a yoga class before! So, I was pretty intimidated and thought that picking up this DVD would be a good idea to help me learn the basics before I tackle the harder workouts. I really enjoyed the workout, it was slow paced, but not dragging. It was surprisingly relaxing and calming, even though I was very sweaty when I was finished. I was afraid the instructor would grate on my nerves, since perky athletic people usually do, but Sarah wasn't the least bit annoying and she gave very clear instructions on how to do each pose. I'd definately recommend this DVD to other beginners, it was an absolute pleasure to do.
Rating: Summary: Lost in space Review: I did purchase this item and Legally Blonde on the same day but never received the shipment. I don't know what happen to the purchases but my credit card was billed and the tracking status said it was delivered. However, I never received the product. I don't know if the post office or what ever shipping company you use lost it but I hope this doesn't happen to the order I just placed.
Rating: Summary: A good beginning...but it needs work. Review: As a complete beginner looking to start slow, this video seemed to best suit my needs. Indeed, the video takes everything slowly and carefully...making it easy for a beginner to become accustomed to the moves. The option to turn the music off on the DVD is a nice touch, and some of the additional information is interesting. The worst aspect of this video is the pacing. The instructor often talks FAR too much...and as one who likes to work out along with the video, I often find myself locked into an uncomfortable position waiting for her to explain all the benefits of a back bend or lecture on the use of a sanskrit word. Being able to turn off the soundtrack and replace it with your own is nice, but it's offset almost completely by the very loud and obnoxious sound effects you can't turn off. If they had set up and explained the moves earlier in the video, and just went straight about the workout later on so you didn't have to continually wait for explanations and trivia, as well as offering an option to turn off the cartoonish sound effects, I would have no complaint at all with this production. As it is, I will likely look for a better replacement soon.
Rating: Summary: Good for beginners, but you'll get bored quickly Review: I am new to Yoga and found this DVD extremely useful. It takes time to explain each detail of the posture. I would purchase this video to learn the correcy way to do basic postures, but I would NOT rely on it to be your sole workout. Once you do it a few times the explanation between each gets a little old.
Rating: Summary: Great for what it's intended to do. Review: If you are new to yoga and want explicit instructions and want to learn exactly what to do, this is the DVD for you! If you are expecting a bun-burning, sweat-drenched, cardio workout, then you will be disappointed. After all, with a title like "Yoga for Dummies," one would expect an instructional DVD for the, um, uninitiated (I prefer to avoid the term "dummy" when referring to myself :-)). After viewing this DVD a few times, you will have no doubt as to whether you are performing the postures correctly. The instructor lets you know where each part of the body should be, how to breathe during each posture, and what not to do (important for beginners--to avoid injury). I would definitely invest in the DVD (as I did) because there is an additional 20-minute "intermediate" yoga workout at the end, that the video does not have, that is lighter on instruction and more of an actual workout, much more "flowing." I highly recommend this DVD to anyone who is truly a yoga beginner.
Rating: Summary: Annoying & Unrelaxing Review: Don't buy this DVD unless you can stand annoying sounds & images popping up on the screen while you're working out. I like the Dummy books & their icons, but the icons do not belong on a DVD. If you want yoga for relaxation, this is not the DVD for you!
Rating: Summary: Do you need instructions on standing up? Review: I bought Pilates for dummies and found the level very appropriate to someone who exercise regularly, but is new to a specific type of exercies. The Yoga for Dummies tape was so basic it gives you instructions on how to stand up. The workout was too simple even for someone who has just practiced yoga half a dozen dimes. I would not recommend this tape to anyone
