Rating: Summary: What a babe! Review: I have been doing this video for about two months now and am starting to notice some results. I wish they had a part at the end where she just went straight through the exercises and didn't talk so freakin' much, but it's still good overall.Guys, if for no other reason, buy this tape for the instructor. Other reviewers have beat around the bush but I'll come out and say it -- Sara Ivanhoe is a babe and a half!
Rating: Summary: Perfect for the Beginning Beginner! Review: -This is for the Beginner who has yet to begin, lol. Buy this tape as a pre-yoga instructional. The workout focuses on 12 basic poses, and is very easy to follow along with. The explanations accompanying each pose are excellent! -I was amazed when I learned the correct way to breathe during YOGA! She explains perfectly how to breathe, move, change positions, etc. -For a very first-timer, this will give you a workout. You will feel a tiny bit sore in certain areas the next day, but not too bad. I suggest buying some other beginner YOGA tapes/dvd's for after you master these 12 basic moves.
Rating: Summary: this is the best beginning yoga DVD! Review: i ordered this at the same time as a few Yoga Journal beginner DVDs. Yoga For Dummies actually treats you like a beginner and assumes that you're not necessarily flexible (and that you may need modifications to some poses). It's refreshing to have an instructor who's very clear and encourages you to bring humor to yoga practice! The first part which focuses on 12 poses is helpful even if you've had a few yoga classes. The instruction is slow and purposeful but doesn't bog you down. The intermediate portion, salutation to the sun, is awesome too. If you're a true beginner, you'll appreciate this DVD because you won't feel completely uncoordinated or full of frustration--you'll feel encouraged enough to enjoy learning yoga!
Rating: Summary: Following this DVD hurt my lower back Review: I have been practicing yoga following a number of DVDs, and this is the only one that I found unsatisfactory. I have some lower back problem and following this DVD made it worse. It is very possible that I am not doing the poses correctly. But I had no problem with the Living Arts DVDs, they actually helped with my lower back problem. I only used this DVD twice and both time it hurt my back. If you have lower back problem, I will recommend not getting this one.
Rating: Summary: Pretty good beginners Yoga Review: I had never tried yoga before buying this tape. I really liked the instruction and the postures -- it's very thorough. I'm looking forward to more of a challenge now.
Rating: Summary: excellent for getting back into it Review: I took yoga in college, but after graduation (about 4 years ago) I didn't have the time or finances to keep practicing. This year I decided to get back into practising yoga, but was nervous about attending a class because I couldn't remember many of the poses. Also in my experience, most classes within my price range are too large and varied for the instructor to give a lot of individual attention. This video has really helped me to remember how to do the basic poses, and even made me realize some errors that I was making in my large class that weren't being corrected. It's true that all of the talking and pop-ups can be a bit tiresome, but I've always liked to have a teacher that keeps your mind busy with helpful advice. The comments really help me think about improving my technique, which doesn't happen if I practice on my own, or in silence. Also I've found that while doing the poses that I have "mastered" and don't need correction, its easy for me to focus on breathing and simply tune out the instruction.
Rating: Summary: A great place to start! Review: This DVD was so refreshing! The instructions are simple without being condescending, Ivanhoe suggests modifications for various fitness levels, and most importantly it's fun and gentle enough to do every day. If you're sick of watching 100 lb. twenty year olds prance around in spandex doing things you couldn't hope to keep pace with this may be the DVD for you. Stick with the basic workout (12 yoga poses designed to stretch, strengthen and relax your whole body) or move on to the intermediate "Sun Salute" also included on the DVD. Either way you can't go wrong.
Rating: Summary: A great way to begin learning the practice of yoga..... Review: I think that this DVD is a great way to begin learning the practice of Yoga. Sara slowly takes you step by step teaching you each of the daily dozen poses, with modifications if you are not able to do the complete pose. I have seen a few other of the beginner DVD's, and at least for myself they are a little fast paced for someone who has never done Yoga before. By starting with this DVD I have been able to keep up much better with some of those other beginner DVD's. The only other thing I would recommend,is to make sure you have have also a few of the basic yoga accessories. A mat, a strap, and a set of blocks. I look forward to trying the intermediate workout on this DVD as well as the new DVD that is coming out later this year by Sara.
Rating: Summary: This is an outstanding DVD ! Review: Sara Ivanhoe is without a doubt the best Yoga instructor I have found. Her beauty, grace and style combined with a charming and user-friendly personality makes her instruction technique quite enjoyable. She provides comprehensive explanations for all poses along with alternative movements which some people may find easier or more beneficial. I always felt like I was listening to an old and trusted friend. The workout details many of the basic asana poses which she calls the "daily dozen". As a beginners workout, it is perfect. I highly recommend it to everyone. As for myself, I am anxiously awaiting Sara's next DVD. She's an outstanding instructor you'll definitely enjoy and learn from. Get it !!!
Rating: Summary: Wish I could get my $ back Review: I haven't excercised in years & thought this dvd would help me ease back into things. I played the dvd & began to follow along. The instructor gave very detailed information regarding the poses. Too much, she never stopped talking! Once the dvd ended I was left wondering where is the workout? I felt like the entire tape was nothing more than the intro certainly not the workout. This dvd is good to rent or borrow ONCE. After that it is doubtful it will be of much use.
