Rating: Summary: Good Introduction to Yoga Review: This tape is a great video for a beginner to yoga who has not been formally introduced to some of the poses. It is helpful because it points out common mistakes to help you do the poses correctly and safely. I would recommend, however, borrowing this from a friend or your local library as it is a good reference but does not really form a cohesive workout. Try also the Crunch Fat Burning yoga video that has the same upbeat instructor and provides a full workout.
Rating: Summary: Another great workout video Review: I lack flexibility and this video was a great buy. It's a great video for beginners. I've improved my flexibility and I feel peaceful and serene. The instructor isn't annnoying at all; in fact she really helps make the inner peace come out. Great video.
Rating: Summary: Yoga for Dummies Review: I tried a yoga class a couple of years ago and didn't like it. I thought it was just sitting in uncomfortable positions for as long as you could stand it. With this DVD, I've learned to love it. In just a few weeks of doing the workout every other day I can see improvement. I find myself looking forward to my yoga time. I'm alternating it with the Pilates for Dummies workout which is a great combination for me - someone who hates to workout but knows the health benefits.
Rating: Summary: Good Beginning For A Novice Review: I am new to yoga and found this DVD very helpful in starting a practice.
Rating: Summary: Basic Yoga Workout for Dummies Review: I really like this workout. It helps me to reach my goals when doing yoga: stretch, flexibility, relaxation. What I like best about this workout is that it is very informative and is not overly "spiritual." I am a Christian, and I did not want to be practicing guided meditation. There is a final relaxation pose, but she lets you focus on what you want to, instead of telling you what relaxes you. The only thing that keeps me from giving this dvd 5 stars is the "dummies" format itself can get annoying. It's not very relaxing to have icons pop up and make a silly noise when you are trying to relax. Yet, it does have a "begin" cue, so if you want to mute the dvd and do the workout to your own music, that is an option. Overall, this seems to be an excellent program and Sarah Ivanhoe is very professional and a good instructor.
Rating: Summary: Excellent for first time yoga students Review: I am pleased with my purchase and the tape has made yoga easy for me! I am a new yoga practician.
Rating: Summary: Great Video for Beginners! Review: I was very impressed with this video. I have purchased other yoga videos for beginners, and this one is by far the best. Sara Ivanhoe is a wonderful instructor and makes you feel very comfortable. She is upbeat and personable unlike some other instructors I have viewed. This video is just the right amount of relaxtion without feeling tiresome. I am hooked on this video, and this is coming from someone that has about 10 other workout tapes collecting dust in the closet. This yoga practice will MAKE you want to find the time to do it daily!
Rating: Summary: Great for beginners Review: This is an excellent DVD to get you started in the basics of yoga. It shows you each pose in detail so you can do it correctly and not injure yourself. The only downside is that once you master it, you need another program to move on. But if you're just learning it's the way to go.
Rating: Summary: Best beginner yoga intro Review: If you are like me, new to yoga and fairly inflexible, then this is your best intro video. The others I have tried don't seem to understand the term "beginner" and try to plunge you into difficult postures and concepts to quickly. The instructor frequently reminds you that you should only move as deeply into the postures as is comfortable for you and that you shouldn't view the practice as competitive. Excellent use of video technology: modifications are offered in pop-up windows, either to increase the difficulty of certain postures or to make them easier. Hey, one of these days I might be able to touch my toes without bending at the knee. Well maybe....
Rating: Summary: Great for Beginners! Review: I really wanted to give yoga a try but I am a complete beginner. I didn't know if I wanted to commit to a class or if I would even like it. I got this DVD to give it a try. I am glad that I did! The DVD is very simple and clear to follow. The background is neutral, not distracting, a simple, empty, pleasant room. The instructor, Sara Ivanhoe, explains what you need to know in a calm, reassuring voice. The background music is relaxing and quiet, not distracting at all. When I am in a position that makes it hard to look at the TV, I can follow along just by listening. The most important thing that I love about this DVD is that I love to do the workout. The beginner's workout is about 50 minutes, which went by so quickly I was surprised. I do not like workouts that I do at home. I find the treadmill or exercise videos or others just plain boring! I think one of the reasons I liked this so much was that I felt really good while I was doing it, and when I was done my body felt wonderful! I do this workout in the morning when I am stiff and it feels good. I do this at night before bed and I feel good. I was surprised by how much of this I can do well because I am not the most fit person (yet!) My 8 year old daughter loves to do this with me, and my 3 year old son even tries sometimes! Also, many of the postures on this DVD have modifications, so that people at almost ANY fitness level can benefit. There is another, quicker, 'intermediate' workout on the DVD, which is nice because you can do this in 20 minutes. Right now I am still working with the 50 minute workout. This isn't something that should be your only exercise, but it is something that is good for you, makes your body feel good, and makes your mind feel good. My whole body feels more 'right'. It is definitely a DVD for people beginning in yoga, but I feel this is something I will be able to go back to, the basics always being enjoyable. Alone of in conjunction with an exercise program, I feel that the benefits of yoga can be wonderful for almost anyone.
