Rating: Summary: Awesome Video Review: This is an excellent introduction to yoga - great explanations, good pace, good demonstrations of alternatives if something is too difficult. I would recommend it to anyone just starting out who doesn't want to feel foolish asking someone stupid questions - she answers them all for you!
Rating: Summary: Great for Beginners Review: This tape was superb! after the first few poses you start to feel relaxed, and the instructor goes slow and explains everything in a way that you can understand. What most appealed to me was the variety of poses she chose, which she calls the "daily dozen". The instructor also shows you alternate ways for poses for those who are not that flexible. Like a said, a great first for anyone interested in yoga.
Rating: Summary: excellent intro to yoga Review: I found this to be the most helpful beginners tape I've viewed. As a matter of fact, it is the one I lend to people considering Yoga. I have been enjoying my foray into yoga and this tape was the most complete and informative. Sara is pleasant, informative, clear and concise without being condescending. She is attractive and capable without being "intimidatingly" fit. I feel that is especially important to people that feel they are a bit "behind the fitness curve" and for men that are a little shy about what they may perceive as a "womans" activity. An Excellent purchase that you'll be able to come back to again and again.
Rating: Summary: Perfect way to begin a practice Review: This tape was a wonderful way to begin my yoga practice. Sara explains postures so well, giving simple details on how a posture should feel. She is very soothing, nonintimidating and encourages you to work at your own pace. Within a few weeks I was ready to move on to something more challenging, but I think it was well worth the buy for the total newcomer to yoga.
Rating: Summary: SSSSLLLLOOOWWWWWWW Review: It's not bad in terms of the moves you have to do, quite a workout but the tape drove me nuts because it went so slowly. I am sure this will be an advantage to some as it also explains well, however, I couldn't do it more than once because i just didn't have the patience
Rating: Summary: Soothing and fun Review: This video is ideal for someone who is starting yoga but is a bit intimidated by going to a class (or for someone who isn't very flexible!). Sara Ivanhoe's instructions are not overly complicated, nor are they condescending. It is a relaxing workout that leaves you with a sense of accomplishment. I actually looked forward to doing the video each day! And believe me, I'm nowhere near an exercise fanatic.
Rating: Summary: Excellent introduction to yoga Review: When I bought this item I was looking for a tape that would reintroduce me to some of the basic yoga asanas and principles of practice. In particular, I wanted a tape that focused on fundamentals, that emphasized proper form and how the asanas should feel while you are doing them, and that included modifications for people like me who are flexibility challenged. Also, I did not want a tape that emphasized the "flow" from one pose to another, because some of the videos I've seen in that style either don't give enough instruction for my level or assume that the viewer has more experience than I do and needs less instruction on the basics. This tape is great for all of those things I wanted, and it has none of the features I wanted to avoid. I have used this tape for maybe a dozen or so sessions, and I still learn a little something about doing the asanas every time I view it. I suspect that'd be the case for many more viewings to come. The limited number of asanas demonstrated makes it easy for beginners, or those coming back to yoga after years away, to focus on getting them right. However, after several viewings, I imagine that many purchasers, like me, will want to branch out from the "daily dozen" poses. And, the slow pace of the tape and emphasis on detailed pre-pose instructions make it a little tedious to follow after a while. But, those are not really criticisms per se, because no one tape could possibly fulfil the needs of everyone every time. The tape does what it purports to do, and does it very well. Besides, once you know what's coming, it's easy to simply get into the asanas earlier, hold them longer, etc. The instructor is charming, and she knows her stuff, which counts for a lot when it comes to viewing longevity. I will soon purchase other tapes to expand my yoga horizons, but I suspect I will return to this one periodically for a tune-up and change of pace. It's worth keeping in the collection.
Rating: Summary: AweSome Video Review: This video is certainly for beginners. It takes you step by step through the basics of yoga in simple and precise explanations. It gets you off to right start in Yoga. I have played this tape numerous times and I continue to play it as it is an enjoyable workout.
Rating: Summary: This tape is wonderful Review: I have always been impressed by the flexibility and peaceful demeanor that people who practice yoga often carry. I wanted to see what it could do for me as far as stress relief ( I am a very high strung, high stressed overworked person) I am so glad I chose this as my first yoga experience. The instructor was great, easy to follow and genuinley aware of the limitations of beginners. Even the way she speaks is relaxing. I became more flexible each time I did the video. Great Great Great starter video, no cheesey, distracting palm trees or ocean in the back ground, this is not Gilads workout. Very well executed and professionaly done by Sara Ivanhoe.
