Rating: Summary: "Yoga Conditioning for Weight Loss (2000)" Review: I really enjoyed this tape. I liked how it was put together, the music, the instructor Suzanne Deason, and the Yoga routines. All levels of fitness can benefit from this experience. For me this experience is of relaxation. It truly works on your body, mind and spirit. When I come home from work exhausted, this tape revives me to enjoy the rest of the evening. Suzanne explains when there is an unbalance of the inner self (in my case stress), this affects your outer self. I have done this tape daily for two months and love how I feel afterwards.
Rating: Summary: Weight loss?!? Review: Yes, this is a great video for yoga beginners, but never does it get challenging enough for weight loss! It seemed merely a stretching workout to me.
Rating: Summary: Great for beginners Review: Very good for the beginner. Good way to start exersising if you have not done it for a while. The highest of 4 available levels is appropriate for an advanced beginner. For most of the poses more detailed guidance is available, they call it "personal trainer". The only complaint is that the time allowed for the poses is sometimes not enough. When I do stretching poses I prefer to stay in them for longer than allowed here. But overall it is good yoga DVD and is great if you just start practising yoga.
Rating: Summary: Encouraged Review: I was reading through the reviews to see what others had thought. I purchased the DVD and was pleased with the workout. I read the other reviews where people say "you must sweat to lose weight" not true. Actually by increasing the BMR (your metabolism) your body will become a more efficient fat burner. Onecan achieve this through cardiovascular work OR through a weight program. Now most are familiar with the conventional lift a weight activity BUT one can also use the resistance of the body (isometrics). So with that I say that yes this video does say weight loss video and by increasing our metabolism we can become better fat burners. Also at this point the AMA is happy for people to participate in ANY form of exercise. The levels offered enable any one at any fitness level to participate. The instructors in the video are REAL people with real figures, proof that any one CAN perform the yoga techniques. I would suggest that if you are interested in yoga you also look into pilates. So yes, I think this video is worth the money, it will be relaxing, increase flexibilty,and work on toning and shaping the entire body.
Rating: Summary: Great Introduction To Yoga. Review: This DVD is a great introduction to Yoga. After using the program for 2 months, I feel more relaxed, less stressed, better muscle tone overall and lost some weight. All around a good workout video.
Rating: Summary: navigation is disfunctional Review: in the editorial comment somebody wrote: Living Arts's Yoga Conditioning for Weight Loss is a fantastic example of how DVD features can be used to enhance a workout program. The same workout is presented five different ways, and you may choose the combined (which shows all four modifications), complete, slightly modified, partially modified, or fully modified program. This is an unacceptable DVD at least when played on computers. The navigational features are totally messed up. Skip to next chapter doesn't work as expected, elapsed/remaining times are totally unrelated to the actual time, fully modified (complete) program loops back endlessly in the middle section without ever going to the concluding section and there is no way to start a complete program w/o having to listen to the introductory spiel over and over again. In short one big navigational disaster. Two minor negatives: there is a small but annoying problem with digitalization - there are black band of varying thickness on both sides of the screen. Also, personally I don't care for the artificial Arizona mesa country background.I vividly remember the unbearable heat of that place.
Rating: Summary: A great beginning video- weight loss??- feel better eat less Review: This is a good video for beginning yoga students. The continuous showing of multiple variations is very helpful for beginners and those who may have the anatomical incumberances of a few extra bulges. I suspect that the weight loss title is a gimmick to sell the video. For those like me who already know some yoga, but have embraced the "food is God concept" a little too well perhaps it is time to move on to Ashtanga. There now seems to be a formula to sell yoga videos. 1.) Get instructors 2) Go to pristine natural setting, blue sky with few clouds highly recommended 3) play relaxing music in background. This one fits that formula as do most recent videos. The Arizona canyon lands is a pleasing background.
Rating: Summary: former nonbeliever, now hooked Review: I can't recommend this program highly enough. For those of us new to yoga and for whom exercise is but a dim memory, this gently encouraging workout will have you hooked before you know it. Four levels of intensity are demonstrated for each pose. This accomplishes two things: 1) it doesn't scare people away who can't tuck their ankles behind their heads just yet, and 2) it provides incentive to strive for the next level. For those who complain that this program is just so much eyewash, please remember the three areas a well-rounded exercise regimen should address: strength training, aerobic conditioning, and flexibility. "Yoga Conditioning for Weight Loss" is an energizing way to achieve the latter while being, dare I say it, ... fun!
Rating: Summary: Great for beginners, whether you want to lose weight or not. Review: This tape is an excellent introduction to yoga. Much more worthwhile than the Patricia Walden Intro to Yoga tape. It can be done by anyone, as every pose is modified in four ways. This is the first yoga tape I bought, and although my goal wasn't necessarily to lose any weight, this tape got me started on yoga and makes me feel relaxed every time I do it. Yoga gets you back in touch with your body and that's when you start caring about what you put in your mouth. This workout in itself isn't going to burn a ton of calories, but it calms you down and wakes you up at the same time. The only complaint I have is that it's marketed for people who want to lose weight. It's such a good tape that any newcomer to yoga should use it.
Rating: Summary: Effective but sometimes moves too quickly Review: I have done yoga before using a wonderful book that I lost and is now out of print. I was looking for a DVD specifically because I hate rewinding VHS tapes and I love the extra features that are sometimes available. This DVD is wonderful but sometimes does not give you enough time to move into the poses. Perhaps when I have practiced more it will become easier, but for the moment it is somewhat difficult to look at the screen and contort myself at the same time. All in all, I have enjoyed using it and after only two weeks of regular use I can already see more muscle definition in my arms and legs. I would definitely recommend this edition but suggest watching it through a few times before using.
