Rating: Summary: Excellent workout from early pregnancy to day of delivery Review: This video is my #1 gift for pregnant friends. It includes excellent information and exercises for pregnancy. Although it is 10 years old, the exercises and aerobics are very helpful and don't seem outdated. The "energizer"/warmup is great for your aching back. The aerobics are a really good workout - I used it for several months of pregnancy right up until the day I delivered. It is easy to adapt the moves to be slower as you get "bigger".The video also includes information from obstetricians about various pregnancy issues. Additionally, there are suggested Post-pregnancy exercises included at the end that are helpful and inspirational. Although the video seems a little spendy, it is worth the money.
Rating: Summary: Fun and informative Review: I used this tape 2-3 times a week from my 3rd month of pregnancy until a week before I delivered. I'm convinced that the workout helped me not only to sleep better and have more energy while I was pregnant, but also to push more effectively during labor and bounce back more easily afterwards. The choreography is basic, so it's easy to follow even if you're not an aerobics nut. It's also very varied, so you won't get bored. The women in the tape are all in various stages of pregnancy, and Kathy Smith uses them to demonstrate modifications to the exercises. The only part of this tape that I didn't care for was the relaxation at the end. I found Kathy Smith's voice too perky for zoning out.
Rating: Summary: A little to cutie for me Review: I got this video without knowing much about Kathy Smith. It is a bit on the basic side with too much of a cutie pie effect. If you are into Kathy Smith you will love it. Otherwise, you may want to try Lisa Stone's Fit for Two.
Rating: Summary: Good all-around workout Review: For us fitness-minded women, it's easy to forget that we're actually trying to GAIN weight during this time in our lives. No, the Kathy Smith pregnancy workout is not especially challenging, and I won't use it once I can go back to my speed workouts on the track. But for the pregnant woman, I think it offers a good all-around workout, spending a little time on every part of the body. Women who are more fit than average may want to pause the tape during the toning sections and add an additional strength-building set to each exercise.
Rating: Summary: Highly Recommended! Review: Having not exercised extensively before my pregnancy, I was intimidated to use a video by such a supercharged workout instructor. But Kathy's style is so down to earth and easy to follow, I quickly became hooked. The video is also full of tips and checks to make sure you are not overextending yourself. In the intro, Kathy speaks openly and knowledgely about the changes in the body during pregnancy and shares with you her own experiences in the post-natal section. She makes you feel great about your growing form!
Rating: Summary: Buy this tape!!! You won't regret it! Review: I LOVE this tape. You feel like you're getting a good workout, but it's easy to slow it down as you get to the more advanced stage of pregnancy. I did it until the week before my due date. No major equipment necessary -- light weights are optional for beginners. The only other things the video calls for: a high-backed chair for leaning and a couple of pillows.
Rating: Summary: Worth every penny!! Review: Great tape! I have this and the Denise Austin tape, and this one is more comprehensive. It has cardio and weights/toning. I also enjoy the relaxation at the end of the workout. The section on post-natal is also informative. An overall winner!! I'm recommending to all my pregnant friends!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent!! Who did I lend it to?!! Review: Richard Simmons was the only television exercise guru when pregnant with our first child 16 years ago... Kathy's video was soooo wonderful in preparing me for the birth of our second child, 4 1/2 years ago. It's been lent out to friends and family...and having just discovered that I'm 10 weeks pregnant, I'm anxiously looking for the person who has my copy!! Definitely worth purchasing twice, tho! Best pregnancy workout video ever!!
Rating: Summary: 80's aerobic workout Review: I bought this dvd, along with Jennifer Gianni's pilates fusion for pregnancy and what a difference! The Kathy Smith program takes you right back in time to the 80's. The background music has a definite "Miami Vice/Casio tone" feel to it, as do the outfits, and the set. The aerobic excerises do get your heartrate up, but this is not a very intense workout, at least not for someone who is already is pretty good shape. I found the rap sing-along portion of the tape to be really annoying, and the teddy bear icons which occasionally pop up are cheesy too. Overall, I would recommend this tape if you live in an area where you can't go for a brisk walk or swim or do some other aerobic workout to get your heart pumping. I will occasionally follow the workout during my pregancy, but I much prefer the Gianni pilates workout to this one.
Rating: Summary: Terrible, terrible Review: It is soo outdated. The moves are old. The outfits are even worse. Notably, only Kathy wears a decent outfit, the others are clothed in telly-tubbie style garb. Watch out for the horrible attempt at rap "do the preggo dance" (intended as a comic relief during the workout). Just awful! It was initially a VHS so it doesnt have the functionality of the dvd. Be warned.
