Rating: Summary: Not What I Expected Review: I bought this workout tape to get back in shape after my baby. Although I did work up a sweat, I thought some of the moves were complicated and had the potential to injure my knees. I think someone who has some previous kick-boxing experience or is really fit and agile would enjoy this.
Rating: Summary: Kathy Smith Kick Box Review: In general this is a good workout - but Kathy confuses the viewer with comments that are not in sync with the movements - saying the wrong thing at the wrong time - some simple audio editing would have been a good idea. Or add the audio after the video was completed. There is some confusion when she turns to the other instructors as to who is in charge - who speaks, who leads - The exercises after the kick box workout are brutally difficult! And if she ever says "You Got It" again I might bite somebody's leg!!!
Rating: Summary: High-adrenaline physical Kickboxing Workout!! Review: If anything, this 1999 Kickboxing Workout is a refreshing change from the usual aerobics. Working out to exercise video tapes takes commitment with alternative workouts. She teamed up with martial arts expert Keith Cooke, and five-time grand champion at U.S. World and U.S. Open Karate Tournaments and a member of the Black Belt Hall of Fame. This isn't difficult, and with some practice and repetition, And the setting ISN'T your typical "aerobic workout room", immediately, you will get the feel of a boxing atmosphere. Kathy starts out with a 10 minute warm-up, and then a 25-minute punching, jabbing, hooking, kicking, squating, stance, bobbing, weaving, and uppercuts all culminating to a high-adrenaline, workout. She will give a quick demo on the move, start out slow, then up the tempo. On the first try, you won't keep up much, but some moves will be easy to follow. After the 25 minute workout, a Buns and Thigh Kicking Drill is to strengthen the areas, you will use the aid of a chair to master the kicks, building strength, coordination, balance, etc. You will learn the moves. It is safe, effective, energetic, and fun!!! .....MzRizz.
Rating: Summary: Not for klutzes, and make sure you have lots of space Review: This video was very frustrating... although they paid careful attention to form (which is touted as good by the experts) I couldn't keep up. There were too many changes and I was always 2 or 3 moves behind. Also, I didn't have enough room to do the moves without hitting the wall. I'd say give yourself about 5 feet on all sides. I tried this workout once and it's been collecting dust ever since.
Rating: Summary: Watch Keith Cooke only Review: This is a good work out provided you pay attention only to Keith Cooke and none of the other people in the work out. One of the things you should always watch out for in Cardio Kickboxing is that you should never sacrifice form for the sake of speed. Keith shows excellent form and control over his moves, and the girl behind him seems reasonable in her form. Everyone else is not worth paying attention to. Unfortuneately Kathy is directly in the center, and Keith is to her left. So when the camera focuses on Kathy, the best person is cut off.
Rating: Summary: Not into it Review: Can't say I'm that excited by this tape. I've done quite a few Kathy Smith tapes and have seen great results with all of them...except for this. I don't feel that I build up enough of a sweat and the moves irritated me. I don't find there is enough kicking or high impact cardio.
Rating: Summary: This one kept me going! Review: I have to admit, I was skeptical at first but I really did enjoy this workout. I am pretty new to video workouts. The few I have tried before either went too slow or too fast for me and I lost interest quickly. This video is great in my opinion. I was able to get through the entire video the first time around without being exhausted and I can see many ways where I will be able to continue using this one in the future. I took it slow this first time but there are definitely ways to increase your speed and resistance to get a more intense workout as time goes on. I am pretty clumsy and have a hard time keeping up with steps in the videos I have tried before. This video was VERY easy to keep up with. They do a great job introducing new movements and preparing you for changes. It was a fun workout!
Rating: Summary: Great workout! Review: This tape is WONDERFUL! I have only been using it for about a week, but I can already feel results. My upper body strength has been increased significantly, as well as my leg muscles. Kathy's tape is enjoyable without being annoying, like some instructors can be. I use it everyday (well, I try to...I get lazy some days)and it's fun and easy to learn. It took a few tries to master the choreography, but that's the only drawback to the tape. I would suggest, however, to rotate this tape with other cardio or strength training workouts so that your exercise routine doesn't become monotonous. All in all, this tape is effective, it burns calories, and leaves you feeling energized! If you continue to workout out with Kathy, you'll be toned in no time!
Rating: Summary: Great Workout Video Review: As someone who's been in martial arts and kickboxing for 7 years, I found this video to be not only high quality instruction wise, but also refreshing. I've had enough Taebo that I can possibly take so I gave this one a try. This video does not rush the beginner, but still can get the advanced to break a good sweat. I like how Kathy gradually leads the viewer into the full move as opposed to jumping right into it and doing it so fast that one cannot achieve the full range of motion. There's only one exception where I think they could have explained how to execute the rear kick more properly. But I especially liked her breif ab section. Only wishing it was longer, it was nice to see some different ab exercises other than crunches. Another thing that was great is that the instructors were not annoying at all.
Rating: Summary: Next best thing to a live kickboxing class Review: I'm a big fan of Kathy Smith and a big fan of kickboxing, and this tape was the catalyst for my enthusiasm about both. It is the only workout tape that I have been able to do over and over without getting tired of it. Kathy Smith teaches the punches and kicks so well that by the time I stepped into my first beginning kickboxing class, I felt like a pro. She's very descriptive and explicit about how each move should be done, which I appreciate while I'm working out so that I can focus on the enjoyment of exercise instead of worrying about whether I'm doing it wrong and risking injury. This tape was great for me as a beginner, and I still love it now that I've been taking kickboxing classes for 2 years!
