Rating: Summary: Kathy Smith is the best! This video is amazing--A must have! Review: I have heard the craze about Tae Bo and I have tried the videos (they are not great). This video by Kathy Smith blows them all away -- it's terrific! True to form, Kathy's video is safe and effective. She is such a good instructor -- she made me feel confortable doing the workout while having fun. I wasn't worried about injuries because she shows you how to do the workout as a beginner as well as at an advanced level. The routine is a real fat burner too. The production is interesting and not "too over the top", and the music kept me motivated. I recommend this workout for anyone -- even if you thought kick boxing was "not your cup of tea". Try it, you won't be sorry! I have been doing workout videos at home for 10 years and I've tried them all. Kathy Smith is truly the best!
Rating: Summary: Great, fun, different, safe and motivating. Review: This video contains high production values-music, camerawork and pacing. Kathy Smith is an excellent instructor who previews the segments, explains the basic moves with Keith Cooke, and rarely misses a cue. The workout itself is well thought-out, building upon moves in the warm-up, and you have the option to occasionally change the intensity. This workout makes no pretense of teaching you self-defense; it uses kickboxing to provide aerobics and toning. She includes kicking drills and an abs section. The entire workout lasts 50 min. Alternate it with other workouts such as The Firm. A great overall exercise activity which won't become boring within one month. The only thing which bothered me was the "fancy camerawork" every once in a while. Yes, to the reviewer who thinks they skip stretching one hip flexor. These are minor. This one is definitely worth the money.
Rating: Summary: THE ABSOLUTE BEST KICKBOXING WORKOUT Review: Holy cow!!! I was completely drenched with sweat at the end of this workout. I have a few of Kathy's videos and have always been pleased with her technique. She doesn't disappoint here. I have all of Billy Blanks Tae-bo tapes and this so much better. A very thourough warm-up leads into a tremendous workout that keeps your pulse elevated and ends with a great toning section for the legs utilizing the kicks you've just learned. A bonus ab work rounds out a perfect tape. Also feautured is trainer Kelli Roberts, from Cher's first video and the star of her own two excellent step video. Hope someone signs Kelli up for her own kickboxing tape!
Rating: Summary: As always, Kathy Smith delivers a great product Review: I have owned several Kathy Smith tapes over the years and she ALWAYS comes through. I have done some other Kickboxing tapes, some of the real popular ones, and this one flows so much better and keeps your heartrate elevated and you moving. If you are new to kickboxing, she will demonstrate the skills so it is easy to follow. For people who are more skilled, it is still a great workout. I was also excited to see Kelli Roberts (of Cher's video and several of her own, all very good) on this video too.I never hesitate to buy a Kathy Smith tape, they are always THE BEST!!
Rating: Summary: Less annoying than Billy Blanks! Review: Ok-- I love tae-bo, but you can only listen to so many of Billy Blank's sermons before you want to gag. Kathy Smith offers a really straight forward kickboxing workout with music that doesn't suck.....and not too much yapping. I'm at the beginner/intermediate level and this workout offered up some moves that were pretty challenging with a good balance between cardio and strength training. Normally I combine several workout videos to fill my daily 1 hour workout, but with this one I can work my entire body without changing the DVD 3 times! If you like kickboxing or are thinking about trying it, this would be a decent starter if you can't quite make it to an actual class.
Rating: Summary: Great Kickboxing Work Out for Beginners to Intermediates Review: I have been attending kickboxing classes for years but this DVD fit my busy schedule much better. You don't need a lot of room space to do the workout and there are quite a lot of others in the DVD other than Kathy for you to focus on when you get bored with her. Her instructions are very clear and easy to follow, and I sweat after about 25 minutes workout. I bought this about 4 months ago, and am still using it with good motivation. Although I am searching here other workout DVDs to mix with this one.
Rating: Summary: Great DVD options, challenging workout Review: The workout is definitely challenging, and you WILL feel it later in the day (arms, back, glutes)! It takes a few times to get the combinations together without looking spastic, and I could only get through about 35 minutes of the routine at first. The options on the DVD are great...you can "customize" your workout by chosing which parts of the workout you want to do (it will stop between "chapters" but would still be worth it if you wanted to focus on something or had less time to work out). You also have the option to just hear the music and watch the DVD which is great once you understand the moves. I'm in pretty good shape, and this has been a great addition to my workouts.
Rating: Summary: EASY TO DO, NOT MUCH VARIETY THOUGH Review: Alright for beginners, but not challenging enough for anyone pass the beginner stage. Kathy spends time showing the basic moves of kickboxing, but this takes up too much of the dvd's time. Would like to see more moves.
Rating: Summary: Polished DVD Review: This is a solid workout. I've used it at least once a week for almost a year and haven't gotten bored. It's intense enough to compare to my alternate workout, a three mile jog. The cueing, background, and filming style are much more polished than other kickboxing workouts I've tried. I have no complaints about this workout.
Rating: Summary: OK workout- Few combination moves Review: I have been kickboxing for some time and I was a bit disappointed to find this tape to be more of an instructional tape for those just beginning to kickbox, than a good workout for someone with experince. The warm-up section (10 min) is good and is followed by a cardio section (25 min) that focuses on teaching punches and kicks. After the main workout there is a short section which focuses on the leg and butt and is very helpful for improving kicking form. The stretching section and the abs section aren't worth it. I usually end up doing my own stretching and abs. The real disappointment for me in this video is the lack of combination moves. The ones that Kathy does do aren't that difficult and are very short. Kathy is also a little irritating after the third or fourth time of doing the tape. I am looking forward to trying XKO and other kickboxing workout tapes.
