Rating: Summary: Great Calorie Burner! Fast Heart Pumping! Review: This was my first Kathy Smith tape and I'm glad I bought this one first. I have rented her earlier workouts from the library and glad I own this one. She is down to earth, motivating and the others in her 'boxing class' are cool role models. Keith is cool but the red hair (Australian?) lady gets a turn to work you out and it's a cool variation. I really like the techno beat music and the photography is good because you can see their whole body. Not like in other videos where you are supposed to be jumping but you can't follow the teachers feet. Kathy instructs the poses well but doesn't waste good calorie burning time because you are always moving or in this video 'boxer shuffling' I like to do this video before going to the office, it's a quick sweat making workout that doesn't waste my time with all the fluffy crap. The warm up (really does get you warm & hot) is 10 min., the workout is 25 min of nonstop shuffling, punching and kicking, then another 10 min of buns workout doing chair lunges and slow motion side leg extensions, burns the leg and hips! There is also a bonus of abs workout, sometimes if I'm in a hurry I skip this part but have done it and the tummy gets a nice firm workout. The first few days after I was sore. Now the workout is still challenging but much easier for me to keep up. I've lost 10 lbs so far without changing my diet. You should enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: Great workout! Review: After taking a few kickboxing classes at my gym (and loving it), I picked up this tape. I had heard of Kathy Smith, but had never seen any of her tapes, but after using this tape a few times I understand why she's so popular. Her approach is calm and knowledgeable, and both she and her co-instructor Keith Cooke fully explain the proper form and technique for each move. Beginners may find themselves tripping over themselves the first couple of times they do this, but after that it's fun and sweat all the way! Great for those mornings when it's just too cold/wet/much trouble to get to the gym, and good for the kickboxing newcomer.
Rating: Summary: Great Kickboxing workout for both experienced & beginner Review: As for my background, I usually do kickboxing at a healthclub. In addition, I started doing cardio boxing on a heavy bag about 5 years ago at a very prestigious club in Chicago, which is known for having great classes. Therefore, I was already very familiar with the punches and kicks used in kickboxing. However, I felt had I not been familiar with them, this tape would have been an excellent source of explanation for the proper technique and form. I often feel that this is not explained very well at my healtclub to newcomers of this type of workout. I would therefore, recommend this tape to all people just starting kickboxing for the first time. However, that is not to say that this tape is just for the beginner. I felt it was a great workout for myself as well, and I workout about 5 times a week. My workouts include a variety of things such as spinning, kickboxing, body pump, power yoga and working out with weights. Most of my workouts are done at the club, but as the weather begins to get bad here in the Chicago area, I do find myself using tapes, since traveling to the club can be dangerous. I tried this one a few days ago and found it to be a great workout, I was really sweating during the entire workout. I was able to follow the routine pretty easily since I have been doing some type of boxing class over the past 5 years. I could see however, how a beginner would have a little trouble following, since it takes a while to get use to the punches and kicks. However, a beginner is going to have just as much trouble with a kickboxing class held at a healthclub, since it takes time to get down the technique. If you are a person who has a hard time with coordination in exercise classes and does not like exercise classes because of this, this tape and kickboxing in general is probably not for you. However, if you have a descent amount of coordination and enjoy exercise classes you may want to give this tape a try.The tape is about 45 minutes of exercising, which includes a 10 minute warm up, 3 minute cool down and 25 miuntes of kickboxing. The one thing this tape did not have in it that a lot of kickboxing classes have is jump roping. However, I still felt that I got a very good workout without it. Like I said earlier, I was definitely sweating. Also, you will need to use a chair at the end for some standing leg work, which helps you to master the kicks used in kickboxing. Overall, I thought it was money well spent for a really fun and good kickboxing class.
Rating: Summary: Fun tape Review: I like Kathy's new workout. I have been working out for about 3 years now. I do step, tae bo, weight training, and running. I like variety, so its nice to break up those work out. It gives a good work out whether you are a beginner or more advanced (just put more effort in if you are too advanced! :). I also thought Kathy did a good job of showing proper form. Good tape, good fun :)
Rating: Summary: I really didn't enjoy this video... Review: This workout video got a lot of rave reviews from individuals who purchased it, but I'm sorry to say that I'm far from pleased with this workout. I have four other videos from Kathy Smith so I decided to try this one to add variety to my workouts. What I found was a fairly difficult routine to follow and moves that were too fast for me to follow correctly. I got very demotivated very fast after a few minutes into this workout. Unfortunately, I have to say that this tape was a waste of my money.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed in Indiana Review: After reading the wonderful reviews, I bought this video. Kickboxing is not for me. I would much rather do step or a dance exercise video. All that punching is not for me. I wasted my money.
Rating: Summary: Great for experience beginner Review: I read all of the reviews for this DVD before buying. They were extremely helpful. I've been doing the original Taebo workout at 20mins, but needed more. Taebo Advanced was too fast, jumping to 60mins and not exercising with perfect form led to some injuries. I just finished viewing and doing the workout on this DVD and it's just right. The exercises are slower and more controlled. Kathy's direction and instruction are excellent for the uncoordinated like myself. The DVD format is also maximized by allowing several camera angles of each exercise and jumps to the instructional screens for quick reviews. Great DVD and workout for your dollar!
Rating: Summary: For Tae Bo Burnouts Review: I have been doing kickboxing for 2 years and have always loved the Tae Bo Tapes -- but I got a little bored. This tape is fantastic! It gets you going the combinations are powerful but not dificult to master and what a workout. After a couple sessions my whole body felt it - It incorporates your whole body, all the major muscle groups. If you like kickboxing but are bored with your regular routine then this is perfect. Kathy Smith is straight-forward and provides great instruction. You see everyone working, grunting and sweating along with you without that fresh perky look of aerobic videos.
Rating: Summary: Great Buy Review: I bought this tape in the beginning of last summer, to get me started with exercising on a regular basis. IT WORKED. For the first time EVER, I continued with an exercise routine for longer than a week or two. I could no longer chalk up my desire not to exercise to bad instruction, difficult moves, boring moves, etc. So what's so good about this workout? Here are a few things: 1. It really gets your heart going (until you have done the workout for three months and decided to buy another Kathy Smith tape to add variety). 2. All of the moves are easy to learn. 3. Despite point number 2, the workout is never boring! Maybe it's just me, but the more I did it, the more I concentrated on keeping my posture correct, getting more power into the kicks, and so on. 4. It is fun! And I mean "fun" in that pleasant, after-workout glow.
Rating: Summary: Keeps you sweating Review: One of my favorite workout tapes--it's the perfect length, about 35 minutes. Plan on sweating, though. It pushes you enough to work on legs and arms without overworking them. Plus she's not as "perky" as she can be in some tapes.
