Rating: Summary: Tu, Tu, Turntable T.V.... Review: Having had to book my tickets a week in advance (after missing the first screening) I managed to catch this at the Melbourne film festival and it was worth every penny. Mr Quitevis has created an amazing animated adventure to complement his "Wave Twisters "album and it ranks as both one of the best music and best animated films I have ever seen. From the moment the film starts you are emersed in Q-Berts weird and wacky parallel universe of hip-hop loving dentists, space ships and devotion to the lost b-boy arts. A rich, visual hybrid of graff, Ralph Bakshi, comic books and computer graphics, this is what music films should be. Characters speaking in samples, phat beats and a total visual synchronisation with the music...and what music this is. The morning after I saw this all I could think about was the opening of this movie and I walked around for the next few days with all the characters still breakin' in my head. Truly the "Fantasia" of our generation. The only thing that would improve this film for me would be a DVD release.

Rating: Summary: but is it art? Review: hey folks, i never thought i'd be one of those guys who shills for some movie or video on amazon but hey, i was wrong... ok, dj q-bert has long been held in high esteem by many a wanna be turntablist extraordinaire. and now he's come through (not without a little help from his friends) with the visuals to match his turntables on acid sound. wave twisters deserves a worldwide release and a place in the pantheon of many a cinemaphile. play it at half speed and you've got the perfect companion for those nights when you can't keep your bowl glowing orange and your dayglo pink floyd posters aren't cutting it. hey who knows, you might even find yourself digging through vinyl stax next time you're at the record store...
Rating: Summary: You need some Fresh! Review: I caught this hour-long animated movie/short (?) on one of the Sundance channels last weekend and altho I am not much of scratch turntable hip-hop fan, I watched a few minutes out of curiousity and was hooked for the remainder of the movie--I recommend this for underground animation fans who won't let the hip-hop soundtrack get in the way (and I found I rather enjoyed it!)--bottom line: this film wouldn't have been out of place being shown during USA channel's "Night Flight" program back in the day!
Rating: Summary: Qbert is the man! Review: I've been wanting to see this movie for a really long time, and I finally got the chance the other night. Man! This movie is so awesome! If you're a fan of turntablism, then you are going to wet yourself. The movie takes Qbert's Wave Twisters album and puts it to a funky story about intergalatic war and the dentist that's going to save all the b-boys and b-girls. The animation fits so well with the music that you just find yourself sayin "Oh Damn that was so phat" over and over. And if you do like the movie then pick up the album so you can relive those tight beats and crazy scratches over and over again. Qbert is one of the greates turntablists that has ever lived, and probably will ever live.
Rating: Summary: The little animation that could. Review: If Bugs Bunny were a chick, and, you know, got it on with Daffy Duck, and they had a kid, and the kid was a speed freak, then that would be cool. Real cool. All of them would like this movie, because it's like a family movie for cool families that like hip-hop and scratching. All the baby mommas of the world, should get this for their children. It's hip hop and its animation and it's real good. Real cool.
Rating: Summary: Wave Twisters is literally out of this universe! Review: On the Strength: Visualization of DJ QBert's kinetic debut album is without a doubt, the hottest Hip-Hop film to date, and certainly a one of a kind. With vinyl as his canvas, and two turntables as brushes, QBert has managed to paint a timeless masterpiece that is sure to enthrall b-boy enthusiast for decades to come. He is undoubtedly the Picasso of modern-day turntablism. Illustrator Doug Cunningham's characters are by far the illest bunch of deranged outcasts ever assembled on screen. When Lord Ook (a cross between your mom's old rag-doll, and Pinhead from Hellraiser) learns that the Wave Twister has resurfaced, he calls upon his number [guy], the Redworm (a baby donned in a Mexican wrestlers mask, with a red parasite protruding from his naval) to retrieve it. The Redworm unleashes his psycho army of "Chinhead" motorcycle thugs, (I ain't even gonna' try to explain) on the Dental Commander's mother ship (a city sized '63 Impala). The Dental Commander retaliates by releasing his own army (a band of custom lowrider fighter ships, ammoed with spray-paint cans as rockets) for a high flying, psychedelic, inner-galactic dogfight. Wave Twisters will shuttle you to the edge of sci-fi adventure, and hold you there, dangling atop a root canal of musical and cinematic brilliance.
Rating: Summary: Masterpiece Review: This has most or all of the music for DJ Qbert's album of the same name. There is animation for every song, which creates sort of bizzare story as the DVD goes along. The animation is not brilliant but is does go perfectly with each piece of music and the characters have a hip, cool style as do the vehichles they ride around in. This is truly one of the most all time greatest "hip/hop-DJ" DVDs ever. I can't imagine any one who likes this type of music that would not fall in love with this DVD and watch it over and over.
Rating: Summary: awwww damn! Review: This movie is a great example of cross-media collaborations. DJ Q-Bert who was just recently made a Grand MixMaster put out the album Wave Twisters quite some time ago...perhaps one or two years ago. The movie is animated to the album, so basically they made a movie for a soundtrack instead of the other way round. If you are a DJ fan this is a must have. The B-Boy animation is really solid, and the scratches and beats are top quality. BUY NOW!
