Summary: weakest of the Baby Einstein videos, poor VHS quality
Review: We own all the other videos by this company and this one is by far the weakest. That's not to say it's bad, but it's not as good as the others. There is a strong reliance on computer animation that just isn't as engaging as the toys of the other videos, and the animated crayons don't really seem to have anything to do with the shapes of the video's topic. Also, the so-called music video is played twice, which means a good portion of the show is simply a repeat. We watch these videos enough to have them memorized, and we really don't need to see the same thing twice in each viewing. The song "I Know My Shapes" (the music video) isn't as fun as the "Deep Blue Sea" song in one of the animal videos and you can't sing along to most of it because it's talking instead of singing.

We've only had this video a few weeks and it's boring the heck out of the adults. My 18 month old likes it, but that's partly because Isaac the lion is his favorite character. He already has it memorized and I'm beginning to see him find other things to do during particularly dull portions, such as when there are computer animated designs on the screen. Bring back the clever toys!

As a side note, we had to return the VHS version and buy the DVD because the VHS sound quality was so poor. The speakers in our TV kept switching from stereo to mono and it was annoying.

Summary: My child loves all the other Baby Einsteins.
Review: My child has greatly enjoyed watching the Baby Einstein videos since he was slightly over 3 months old (he is just over a year now), starting with Baby Mozart and Baby Bach and progressing to Baby Shakespeare and Van Gogh. We bought Baby Newton just before his first birthday. I find it far less engaging and creative than the others, and it contains a computer-generated image that terrified him and made him scream. We watched it twice and I will never play it again!

Summary: Another great DVD by Baby Einstein!
Review: We love this whole series! We own 5 of the DVD's and our 10 month old just loves every one of them! He gets so excited when the opening credits come on and that cute little catepillar crawls across the screen. He stays riveted to the screen watching the bright colors, all the shapes and the wonderful music. Made expecially for your little one! Buy one of these and you'll have your baby hooked! We love them!

Summary: Not the same as the other Baby Einstein videos.
Review: My 16 month old just does not like this video. It is very different from the others. I will certainly keep trying it on him as he matures. I guess we expected it to change from the computer animation to the real life and puppets that we are all so accustomed to at some point in the video but it never happens. I would just caution the buyer to be aware that is not a typical Baby Einstein video.

Summary: I'm really disappointed
Review: We too are a family who has really enjoyed Baby Einstein's previous offerings. My daughter loves Baby Bach and the Baby Dolittle DVDs. But this one is nothing but junk... Gone are the cute interactions between the puppets and real-life items. All that's here are some stupid, dancing animated crayons and this hideous animated clown; there's no fun or education for anyone...

Summary: HORRIBLE - Don't waste your money!!
Review: Oh please!... don't waste your time or money on this video. Baby Einstein has really gone downhill! Their first few videos were maybe a 2 star rating, but now it's repetitive junk images of nothing! In fact, your baby doesn't learn a thing from ANY of the Einstein videos. They just TV Veg on nothing. The newest line of videos are even worse! Please don't subject your child to this nonsense. I believe in using some of these video tools for early childhood education, but there are FAR better choices you can make than anything Einstein makes.

Summary: my toddler's new favorite movie
Review: This was an instant favorite for my toddler (22 months). I ordered the the video since he loves the other Baby Einstein products and he is now learning colors and shapes. He liked it the first time we watched it and askes for it over and over again.

I was a little nervous ordering it after reading some of the reviews. Although it does have computer graphic crayons and a clown (not at all scary for my toddler), it still has the same simple basis as the other videos and uses video of everyday objects to show shapes in our world (similar to Baby Dolittle). Try it out... if your infant is too young to appreciate it, he/she will grow into it...

Summary: Baby Newton has much to offer
Review: My 17 month old son is just as enchanted with Baby Newton as he is with the other Einstein videos, and we have them all! Newton does a very good job of introducing the concept of shapes. Our son points to and says circle, square and oval with regularity in part thanks to this video. The animations are very different from others in the series but they are a welcome change in my mind. This video produces just as many smiles as the other Einstein videos in our house.

Summary: great for toddlers
Review: It did not hold my son's attention as an infant, but now that he is two, he likes it so much. This one and Van Gogh seem to work better on toddlers. I think because they actually learn shapes and colors, they enjoy it more than just the objects and music. He will bring me the video and say " watch shapes!". He has learned shapes and colors with the help of these tapes.

Summary: What were they thinking?
Review: This video is a horrific departure from the previous outstanding productions. Expecting similar high standards in the selections of classical music, we were mortified when we were greeted by digitally created 'rapping' crayons.
We only made it through 5 minutes of the film before we turned it off and started looking for the receipt.
Our children LOVE the other videos in the series, but showed little interest (thank heavens) in this particular video.
Do yourself a favor, buy the new "Baby Beethoven" instead.
