Baby Einstein - Baby Newton: Discovering Shapes

Summary: Just watched and am disappointed but I thought Disney
Review: would do what they did. Disney went and tried to make the videos better. Lots of animation, loud music and fast moving things. They did keep some of the old (simple) concept but they added to it and made it more like most other kids videos. It was so peaceful to watch the old ones. I have all of the other Baby Einstein videos and love them and both of my kids love them. I bought this one because of the reputation of the original company. Now, that Disney owns them I guess I'll be thinking twice before I buy the next one that comes out. I was wondering if they would try to improve on something that worked so well just like it was. There are also no children in this video and the puppets are limited. These were my daughter's favorite things in the other videos. It certainly isn't a bad video but it's just not as good as the others. So, if you really liked the others you might be disappointed in this one also. And, to be fair, my daughter asked to watch it a second time right after watching it so it can't be all bad.

Summary: My Baby Loves It!
Review: My son is only 6 months but absolutely loves this movie. He watches from the floor or his entertainment center for more than half of it. I also run a day care out of my house and my 15 month old who doesn't sit still for anything loves this one best. While I like the all classical approach we must face that kids love cheesy songs so I think the shapes song is a hit. I enjoy all of the movies I've seen so far and I use the language library to teach my son German but as for him this is by far his favorite.

Review: how did this get a 3 star rating?! It's great! My 19 mo old has loved this video for months. Great puppets, catchy songs, good graphics, no complaints!

Summary: Baby Newton - Very "Un-Einstein" like
Review: This Baby Einstein differs greatly from all the other Baby Einstein DVDs that we own. I also like it the least. The video had few puppets and only 2 babies in it. It was filled with cheesy animation of crayons and a clown which both added little to the video. I just finished watching the counting video and I can't understand why they didn't to the shape video similiar to that. I would not recommend this video!

Review: Baby Newton is definately a departure from the normal Baby Einstein videos. Whoever said change was good didnt watch this video! The animation, which is not in any of the other Baby Einstein videos, stinks. The animated clown is especially awful and borders on scary looking. The I Know My Shapes song is awful they should have stayed with the classical music as background to the video. My son who usually loves the videos lost interest right away in this one. I cant stand watching it with him either, so its a good thing he didnt like it. Definately dont buy this video if you are a fan of the other and are excpecting more of the same!

Summary: VHS Sound is Muddled - my daughter still loves it though
Review: We own EVERY Baby Einstien video. My daughter has been watching them since she was probably about 3 months old and LOVES them!!! I've only had one problem with one of the videos, and it's the Baby Newton video. We own the VHS version, not the DVD....and the sound is all muddled. Has anyone else experienced that? I managed to acquire two VHS versions of Baby Newton via gift, and they both had the same sound issue. I wonder if the DVD is any better. I admit, I abhor the cheesey song and wish that they used more classical music in this video, but all that's really important is that my daughter likes the video and learns her shapes from it.

Summary: Hey, my daughter loves the cheesy song
Review: Specific to Newton: This video is for ages one and up (Amazon should make this information more visible; it's on the DVD case but you have to click on the picture to blow it up to see it, and consequently people complain that this was unfit for their 5 and 8 month olds.) It has some educational content: it teaches shapes and colors. Yes, a cube is called a square and a pyramid a triangle, but tiny tots need not grasp three dimensional geometry: they'll get the point. The DVD employs both puppets and computer animation, and the computer animation is bold, colorful, and attractive to the young eye. The "I Know My Shapes" song is indeed cheesy, even greatly annoying to some adult ears. (My husband leaves the room when it plays, but I've actually grown accustomed to it.) Yet it is not adult ears that matter here, and my one-year-old absolutely loves this song. She loves the beat, and whenever it plays, she is riveted to the screen and dances by moving her arms in imitation of the clown. She claps when the song is done and would be content to hear it again and again. She likes the rest of the video as well, and I think that overall this may be her favorite of all the Einsteins, and we have most of them. This one should have been called "Baby Euclid," not "Baby Newton," but that's a quibble.

General to Einstein: The Baby Einstein series of videos generally place more emphasis on entertainment than education, though some of the later videos do try to teach shapes, numbers, and colors. Even these have a great deal of "filler." But the videos appeal to most young viewers: my daughter loves them, and they help to calm her before bed, at what would otherwise be her fussiest time of day. She interacts with the videos and imitates much of what she sees. The videos contain music and images dispersed with puppet shows and occasional printed and spoken words. The images change frequently enough to satisfy a baby's naturally short attention span. Every baby is different, and every one likes a different Einstien best, so I strongly recommend that you rent or borrow and "preview" each video with your child before investing in it. From an adult perspective, unlike many children's videos, most of Baby Einstein videos are not particularly annoying. I can sit and cuddle with her and stare at them mindlessly as one might stare at an aquarium or other soothing object. (This is more true of the earlier videos in the series, which do not have silly songs.)

Review: My 16-mo. son loves this video. When he was younger, Baby Mozart and Baby Bach were his favorites. Now this is his favorite, along with World Animals, Van Gogh, Shakespear, Neptune and MacDonald. The two he doesn't like are Language Nursery and Da Vince (too boring).

Summary: Not more Jack Moss music please!!!
Review: I wrote a bad review of World Animals because of that horrible Moss song, "Hey little fishy" or whatever. Now, with my lastest Baby Einstein DVD purchase, I get another. Not only is this guy completely untalented, what is this kind of music doing in these videos anyway? The classical music was a huge part of my love for these videos. Also, the computer animation is pretty cheesy. I don't doubt that many kids love it, but its my last Baby Einstein purchase.

Review: The main difference between this video and its predecessors is that Baby Newton is much more similar to any other Disney product: faster cuts, computer generated animation, and more pop-oriented music. My 16 month old son seems to like it, but it seems less educational than the earlier titles in the series
