Summary: Excellent workout video!!!
Review: This workout is just like being in a ballet class. The workout is great it works your whole body and is very relaxing. I recommened it for people who have some dance experience.

Summary: What were you really expecting???
Review: I really just needed to ask all the previous whiny reviewers: It says *Ballet* workout, what were you expecting, kickboxing??? Tai chi??? B-a-l-l-e-t.

This is a great workout for those who have had dance training and wish to improve their flexibility and coordination. Just being able to watch Peter Martins instruct in this intimate setting is really worth the dvd and watching gorgeous dancers execute the movements is like icing on the cake!

Summary: True Talents
Review: There is no phase of this video that comes up as "mediocre".. From the ballet workouts to the unexpected portion [ the ballet dancers discussing why they chose this "art' as their profession(s)].

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good full body workout!
Review: Well, I must say that I am truly loving this workout DVD. I think that the excercises are things that every person can do (even if it is not so graceful or flexible as the dancers themselves). I feel like I am working everything in my body and am enjoying myself! I've always loved ballet, so to be able to do the same workout as the members of the NYC Ballet is a unique opportunity.

Summary: Would make a great coaster.
Review: Thank god for the library. I was excited when I came across this tape at the library. I took dance classes as a child and have lots of rhythm. None of that mattered with this tape.
There are too many gaps, so the 'workout' doesn't seem consistent. The narrator is horrific. It's impossible to follow his instructions. If you follow him, and look up, you realize that the dancers are doing something totally different.
Do not waste your time on this tape unless you are a prima ballerina who can't get enough.

Otherwise, use it to balance out an old table.

Summary: Excellent
Review: Excellent for those who appreciate gymnastics or ballet. It makes working out fun and really tones your legs, back and arms if used consistently.

Summary: Hey, gals ! Get rid of your cellulite with this tape!!!
Review: When I first reviewed this video I [hated] it....but now after coming back to it again, I find that the exercises have made my cellulite start to disappear !!! Wow !! I take open adult ballet classes at the Houston Ballet and find that this is a "must" workout for gaining increase in "turnout" and strength in the legs. One of the really magical things about this video it that it improves posture !!! I noticed a big change in the way I stand in my ballet class. This change comes from the "floor-barre" segment of the tape. Another really important feature of this tape is that you do not rely on a barre for balance. You do the exercises as if you were doing center work in a ballet class. This speeds up strength and balance like nothing else can !! I feel totally relaxed by the end of the tape. The real "trick" to getting the full power of this video is to do it EVERYDAY !!! The abodominal section is really important because that is the control center for all dance movement. If you have weak abdominals this tape will help you, big-time !!! What more can I say, I am a New York City Ballet workout convert now !!! (Afer all, The New York City Ballet is one of the premier ballet companies in the world, so why wouldn't this be a great tape!!!)

Summary: Interested in ballet as a workout?
Review: This is what started my love affair with ballet! I bought it on VHS 3 years ago and just got it on DVD format. This is a fantastic workout with so much toning, strengthening and aerobic work. I always recommend it to friends who have never taken ballet but are thinking about taking an adult class. The basic ballet movements are easy to pick up and exercises on the floor strengthen the muscles you need to achieve the turnout for them. Plus, the music from Sleeping Beauty works so well with it & the bios on the corpes dancers are so inspiring!

Summary: For Ballet Dancers Only!
Review: This is not your typical workout video. Do not waste your money, unless you already know ballet. I took ballet for 4 years as a child, and I could not keep up. There is very little instruction, and the pace is rapid.

Summary: for ballet/dancers only--not for your average viewer
Review: i very much enjoyed watching this beautfully shot and choreographed video, but as an exercise tape, it is sorely lacking. It assumes that the audience has a background in dance (ballet in particular) and does not demonstrate any of the moves and uses alot of technical words. my problems:

1. there is not alot of instruction- you watch and imitate which can be dangerous if you do not how the technique involved. alot of the shots are framed that you are unable to see quite clearly what you are supposed to be doing
2. it focuses on leg and abd exercises and emphasizes the long lean physique- not at all realistic fo the average viewer
3. the exercises are done to classical music, which while soothing, is not the upbeat tempo most would prefer during their workouts.

All in all, i enjoyed watching the exercises and the end features a biography of the 4 dancers which was interesting. i certainly appreciate the soothing quality and beatiful arrangement.

for a workout video, i think that fellow dancers would appreciate this but the average user should probably pass. the exercises are too specialized.
