Summary: A noisy unit
Review: I own a Sony Sat-T60, which is the version of Sony's Tivo unit that has the built-in DirecTV receiver. I agree completely with all the great things other people have said about Tivo, however, I have one big warning about the Sony Tivo box: the cooling fan is annoyingly noisy. It cycles on and off to keep the machine cool, and when it's on, it's noticeably louder than my computer. This could be a big problem for you if you're one of those rare intellectual types who occasionally sits in a room with the TV off, perhaps to read a book purchased on Amazon.com. I called Sony to ask about the noisy fan, and they said, essentially, "Yup, it's loud alright. Tough luck, dude." Naturally, the sound would be muffled if you keep the box in an enclosed entertainment center, but if you don't have such a cabinet, beware. I have also owned a Phillips Tivo w/ DirecTV and it was perfectly silent, and worked just as well as the Sony, if not better. It's also cheaper. Get the Phillips.

Summary: I don't know how I ever lived without Tivo
Review: Simply put, this is one of the best, if not THE best things I've bought in years. It really is TV on your schedule. You'll never again have to worry about missing your favorite show. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: Spoil yourself!!
Review: Watch your favorite shows on your schedule. It's very easy to select your favorite shows, prioritize them. TiVo does the work of finding the times and remembering to record them. No more searching for blank VHS tapes, no more missing to record a show. And, if you're part way into a show, hit record and the ENTIRE show is recorded (big wow). The triple speed fast forward is great because it zips passed commercials. The recorded list is easy to view and navigate. The remote is erogonomic...well balanced and easy to hold. TiVo does for TV, what microwaves did for cooking.

Summary: You've gotta check this out FIRST .....
Review: Ok so I'm not going to bore you with the TIVO details and how absolutely fabulous it is and is an absolute requirement for people that are not couch potatoes that will watch just about anything. I bought this unit just after it came out and so have most people in my family and my friends ... First thing ... I've had no troubel with the unit but I've heard of some HD problems so do buy any ectended warranty ... remember this sucker is a computer and it's on 24 hours a day 7 days a week ... nuff said OK Second thing ... I just bought another unit for my house, we'll not discuss the problems with my wife and thousands of Martha Stewrt programs being recorded, and I bought the sony TIVO with the Dorect TV receiver ..... Now this is INCREDIBLE when I called Direct TV to sign up the TIVO and the new receiver I learned that if I had more of these combo units I wouldn't have to but a $ 250 .00 liftime TIVO hookup for additional units since they are mirrored into my account with Direct TV ...I asked the cust service rep to double check and she confirmed that since I have multiple directTV units the additional units and TIVOS are covered under the 4.95 additional receiver Direct TV charge ... Since i have one stand alone TIVO and one Combo unit I had to pay for life time TIVO but had I had multipe combo units (Direct TV with the TIVO) it would have been a freeby .... WOW TIVO and DIRECT TV I cant live witout them ......

Review: This is the ultimate gadget I have ever owned. The features and system have let me live my life first and worry about what's on the boob tube 2nd.

Summary: You ain't got TiVo?!?
Review: This is the greatest thing since sliced bread. For those of you who think you can get away with using your VCR to record shows, you are sadly mistaken. That might work for recording one show that you really want to see, but to keep up with every show that you could possibly like, you gotta have TiVo. I'm watchin stuff I've never got a chance to see before. And in regard to the "can't record two shows at once or watch one while recording another channel," TiVo has that capability, but the software does not support it yet. So go ahead and sign up and it should be available soon. The more the merrier!

Summary: The revolution is here folks!
Review: I instantly fell in love with my machine. I heard about it alot but it is helpful to actually see it work in order to get the full impact. It is essentially like a VCR on steroids and then some. Contrary to another reviewer, you CAN watch one thing while tivo records another - you just have to split the signal. That is easy and the parts at radio shack will cost you (...) and the Tivo help line will guide you if needed. I called them 10 times in the first week and they were great. The ability to pause live shows and rewind has become a great feature for me where as at first it seemed a bit if a gimmick. I cant go into all the features - there are many. Suffice it to say, it it breaks tomorrow, I would get another one. It is a bargain at twice the price. My only gripe is that the tivo remote does not have a TV/VIDEO button on it which you need to watch one show and tape another. This means I cant toss my tv remote away. Big deal I guess. Installation can be a bit tricky if you have a bunch of components like me, DVD/VCR/TV, but the customer service will be there for you. ENJOY. Hope this helped you.

Summary: Revolutionary
Review: Before I had Tivo, I could only get 2 hours of quality tv viewing a day max with my cable subscription. With Tivo, I now have several hours of quality shows to choose from when I come home from full-time work and school. I no longer have to be home at certain times in order to watch my favorite shows. It is so easy to use. All you need to do is to tell Tivo which shows you like and it will record them every time they are on. The fast forward and skip buttons also allow you to skip commercials. Buy it now and maximize the benefits you get out of your cable or sattelite subscription.

Summary: Service unacceptable
Review: This product required repair within 9 months of purchase. Unit mailed to Sony Service Center. Two weeks have passed and no acknowledgement, repair estimate or work order logged or received from Sony. Package was received with signature from by Sony. Lifetime TIVO service purchased, this is a waste also, the lifetime service is based on the individual unit purchased. So, if the unit breaks, you can't replace with the same "lifetime" service paid. The lifetime is based on the lifetime of the receiver/unit. Also, while your unit is being repaired, you have no DSS service since the reciever and the TIVO recorder are one unit. Don't buy Sony!!!

Summary: VCRs have more functionality
Review: Be aware that with Tivo, you cannot watch one channel while recording another. In other words, a capability that VCRs had 20 years ago is too advanced for the Tivo! What a waste!
