Review: I recently got this Tivo after months of reviewing the product and listening to other users rave about this product. It is probably one of the best electronic products I have ever purchased. It is simple to use and a great convenience. You just tell it the show you like and it records away. I never watch live television anymore, because my Tivo always has shows I want to watch waiting for me. It is great to fast forward past commercials, rewind to see something again, or pause to answer the telephone. If you need more recording time, there are options available on the internet to upgrade. I upgraded my Tivo from 20 hours to 198+ hours!

Summary: Tivo is awesome!
Review: When my husband came home with yet another piece of electronic equipment, I rolled my eyes. Then I started using Tivo and, man, is it awesome! We program it to record our favorite shows (all season long) and then watch the shows if, and when, we have free time. While we watch the shows, Tivo allows us to just zip through the commercials and skip over parts of the shows that we don't find interesting. And watching live sports is very cool! Tivo lets us pause, rewind, and even watch live plays over again in slow motion. I recommend Tivo to everyone that has a TV! And by the way, Tivo is the only piece of electronic equipment we own that even I think is simple to use.

Summary: This is television worth watching
Review: I have an HDR112 and it has completely lived up to my expectations. There are a few series that I try to watch regularly, but for the most part find television unappealing. Now I almost always watch television through the TiVo. It has made my VCR almost obsolete by automatically recording the series I like. I made an effort to use the thumbs up and down buttons a lot at first, and now I almost always find something interesting recorded for me. It is faster and much more pleasant to be able to fast forward through commercials and credits while watching only shows I requested or that are recommended. I haven't looked a TV guide in weeks. The on-screen guide is easy and convenient and if I find something I really want to see I can immediately just click and it will be recorded. My only complaint would be that the HDR112 doesn't have enough capacity to allow me to keep recordings as long as I would like. The recent reduction in the price of the HDR312 (with twice the capacity) means there is really no reason anyone should buy the HDR112; buy the HDR312 instead. You'll want the extra space, and you won't want to watch TV without a TiVo after you've used one.

Summary: Forget TV without TiVo
Review: The Philips TiVo HDR112 Personal TV Receiver was super easy to hook up and setup. It takes only 5 minutes to make all the necessary connections. It does require a 1-2 hour set up, which is mostly an automatic download of the channel line up and programming data.TiVo will completely change the way you watch TV. It really does learn your likes and dislikes and it will automatically suggest and record shows and movies that it thinks you will enjoy. Its really uncanny how it DOES pick shows and movies I enjoy. You'll probably end up never flipping channels looking for something to watch or watch "live TV" ever again. Just make sure you go for the 30 hour model as the 15 will fill up very quickly. TiVo has been the best first generation product I have ever owned. Don't be afraid to take the leap into Personal TV as it is really very easy to use and the recording quality is MUCH better than with VCRs.

Summary: Looks and monthly fees do count
Review: Call me shallow, but I have a very cool home theater system here at home. I have one piece of advice for TiVo: fire whoever is designing your unit! It looks like some 1960's Jetson box with a cyclops eye---make that eyeSORE. Although I thought it might look ok and get lost between my other equuipment, it stuck out like a sore thumb in my cabinet. I know I sound like some loser who doesn't care about WHAT the box does--but I do. And it worked fine (although it took me two days to get their customer service to get back to me). Bottom line-I have no gripes with how it worked. It does very cool things like pause live shows. And there was one other thing that pissed me off--the monthly fee deal that I wasn't told about at the store! Why not just be up front about it? The customer is going to find out eventually. When I realized that I had to kick out $10 a month, that was the straw that broke the camel back. After it was all over, I went online a bought a ReplayTV. Totally cool box, works flawlessly and doesn't cost me anything but the price I paid.

Summary: TV without Tivo is unwatchable
Review: I have heard it said that invention is actually the mother of necessity. They couldn't be more correct than in this case. Tivo is a must for everyone; I don't care if you watch one show a week or 20. I never realized how much dialogue one can actually miss while watching TV until I was able to rewind at will. You'll never miss an episode of the Sopranos again once you set your Tivo up to record each episode. The remote makes working the system so easy, a three year old would master it in no time. What can I say? I can't watch TV without it anymore.

Summary: TiVo vs ReplayTV
Review: I just got a ReplayTV for my second television. (I already got a TiVo for my big screen--but I wanted a second digital recorder because you need one for each TV). I gotta say the ReplayTV is incredible. Is it as incredible as my TiVo? Well, yes. And I think I like it a tad more because Replay doesn't charge the monthly fee I pay with TiVo. Also, TiVo doesn't have the QuickSkip button that Replay has. This is the BEST for zipping through time outs, boring stuff and lousy commercials. I also find Replay's channel guide interface easier than TiVo. Replay's is like my cable channel guide-so it's easier to use. TiVo's is based on shows and is a little more confusing. I guess that at the end of the day, I LOVE THEM BOTH (how could I not love something that makes television totally fun and easy to record? ). But I love Replay a little more. My next goal is to get a WebTV system for my third (and last) TV.
