Rating: Summary: Boring and Poorly executed Review: I bought this DVD hoping to get up to speed on C# by watching this 8 hour video instead of reading a 1,000 page book. Unfortunately, this DVD is put together very poorly. For Example: 1. The microphone being used to record Harold's voice is not adjusted properly. When he speaks, his "s" sounds like "z". There is also often a lot of background hiss (like wind). I've heard better sound recordings from a camcorder. Not at all a professional job. 2. Harold fidgets way too much, to the point that it is very distracting. He is constantly playing with his hands, squirming about in his chair, and sticking his tongue out like a giraffe and licking his lower lip. I think he was in desperate need of a glass of water. His constant squirming distracts from what he is explaining. 3. The computer screenshots are terrible. They don't ever display the entire screen at once and Harold has to keep dragging the code window around the display area to show you what he is talking about. Terrible! There is more, but I think you get the picture. I can't tell you if the content is any good, as I can't imagine watching 8 hours of this poorly executed DVD. Save your money and wait for another C# DVD series.
Rating: Summary: Excellent C# Resource Review: I have purchased DVDs by DV Press for other training and this one shows another level of improvement on the others. It seemed to flow very well and I like the fact that they now split up the chapters in finer detail (24 opposed to 9). I imagine using this as a reference source in the future.
Rating: Summary: Really good introduction to C# Programming Review: This is really good introduction to C# programming and the Microsoft .Net framework. Harold Davis does a really most excellent job of explaining concepts and syntax in a way that you will really understand. The DVD is very well organized.
At first, I was a little skeptical of a training DVD as a way to learn this material, as opposed to a book or a flesh-and-blood teacher. I still think it may not be for everyone, but this DVD training course is very clear. I especially liked the material about events, and the chapter about types, and type conversion.
Even if you are also taking a course in C# programming, or if you already know some, I think you will find this very valuable. And if it is your first C#, then is a most excellent way to get started.
