Rating: Summary: Better than my 3 days of McKee Review: I learned more from these guys in this DVD than I did from 3 days of Robert McKee. And they don't yell. Seriously, Hauge and Vogler obviously really know their stuff. Screenwriters in particular will really learn a lot from this DVD. Novelists and play wrights will also benefit greatly. It was a hundred bucks very well spent.
Rating: Summary: 2 thumbs up for Michael & Chris Review: I refer to this DVD as a source guide almost as much as I do Michael Hauge's books. It is rich with sound advice and guidance. Two trusted pros sharing the best of their material in an engaging format.
Rating: Summary: Two journey's to the same destination Review: These guys really know their stuff. This DVD is a wonderful insight into age old truths about what are the essential elements to writing a successful screenplay by two of the industries best story analysts. Chris and Michael demonstrate two unique ways to navigate your way through the labyrinth of plotting story structure(the outer journey) and what defines a dynamic character arc, (the inner journey.) I was particularly impressed by Michael's insights of the inner journey of the hero, from mask to essence, from facade to truth, from the identities that we create to protect our wounds to the discovery of who we truly are. Liberating and inspirational, from the hand of an architect and the eye of a poet.
Rating: Summary: A MUST FOR ALL STORYTELLERS!!! Review: When I finished the DVD seminar with Michael Hauge and Chris Vogler all I had to say was...THESE GUYS ARE AWESOME!!! Not only has the process of working along with the DVD been able to help me come closer to crystallizing my story, it has been personally therapeutic as well! They thoroughly cover every single necessary element needed in telling a great story. Weather your writing a movie or a novel, this video seminar is a must.

Rating: Summary: Content & Packaging = 5 Stars, Production Values = 1 Star Review: Yes, you can learn a lot by paying attention to Hauge and Vogler, particularly if you are willing to study screenplays (many are available on the Web) and apply their theories to the finished products. Also, read the ancient poets and playwrights. These teachers are right to emphasize that most of what makes a story great will be found beneath the surface action where what is particular becomes universal. The downside? Supposedly this is a video for active and aspiring movie professionals: people who are enchanted with the perspective of the camera and the beauty of the photographed image. Unfortunately, this DVD should get an award for the worse videography this side of your Uncle Jack's bowling video. The wedding videographer (this is unfair to most wedding videographers) they hired to do this job apparently tried to get away with using autofocus when zoomed in to close-up framing at a wide aperture. Every time his subject moves he is thrown way out of focus. That's the kindest explanation for what we see. As you watch, you're going to wonder how you got so drunk . Joe Medford, who I suspect should get producer's credit and can be proud of his performers, should be humiliated to have his name attached to this project as "Director". Screenstyle does get credit for hiring first rate packaging talent. My advice to this producer: Next time, hire a professional production company to shoot your project.
