Summary: NO MORE TEARS!!!
Review: After putting my Westie through one horrific grooming experience after another (mistreatment, all nails bleeding, being left in a noose on a grooming table unattended, just to name a few), and changing groomers over 4 times in the last year, I decided that the only person I could trust to treat my pet in a loving, gentle and caring way was me. I chose Kevin Duvall's video because of the excellent reviews that others posted. They were absolutely right on! This tape delivers! Understandable instructions, clear close-ups and great tips on techniques to help your pet be relaxed and enjoy being groomed. Packed with exceptional demonstrations about proper bathing and tips on pet health too. I have paid up to $50.00 per grooming session only to have my pet be mis-treated and mis-handled. No more! Thank you Kevin, for producing this excellent video!

Summary: Not just another grooming video!
Review: Doggie Cuts demonstrates, in a relaxed pace and in detail, all basic styles of haircuts needed for any kind of dog; fortunately, this particular video doesn't focus only on a puppy cut, but all essential hairstyles. I was relieved to find that it caters to those of us wishing to groom our own ordinary, yet beloved companions at home, and not just to those wonderfully dedicated people who groom their dogs just for show.

I was initially concerned about how to keep my dog comfortable during the grooming session (which took me slightly less than an hour). Fortunately, not only does the video tell you and show you how to keep your dog calm and comfortable throughout the entire grooming session, it also demonstrates how to allow your dog to actually lie down, if necessary, while you are trimming it's hair. This thoughtful addition was extremely kind in that it allowed my geriatric dog to stay comfortable and happy during the required time needed for me to complete his haircut.

I will be fully prepared now when the time comes that I adopt another puppy. (This video suggests that you begin grooming your puppy at about three months of age.) The friendly veterinarian and dog groomer and dog handler teach you how to do everything needed to keep your dog healthy including bathing, teeth brushing, nail trimming, and, of course, how to give him or her the very best home haircut! Thank you.

Summary: Doggie Cuts should get TEN STARS!!!
Review: Greetings to Doggie Cuts from Alaska! My Maltese and my St. Bernard (what a combo, eh?) thank you for the terrific video!!! I am a single man living in a semi-remote area of Alaska near Nome, so taking good care of my two companion dogs is top priority for me. As you might guess, we don't have a lot of grooming salons to take our pooches to, so my two kids' hair was always overgrown. (It wasn't as much of an issue for my St. Bernard, Duke, but my Maltese, Daffy couldn't see through all the hair in front of her face!) I always kept both dogs clean and bathed, and I brushed their hair everyday, but the haircutting I performed on them was very minimal because I had no idea what I was doing. Well, thanks to Amazon.com offering the Doggie Cuts dog grooming video, my two kids are finally well-groomed and looking good! I even started brushing their teeth after I saw it shown in the video. (Duke thinks the toothpaste is just another tasty snack!) Anyway, I recommend this video to everyone who has a dog, even those of you fortunate enough to live somewhere warm!!! Seriously, so many hair styles and haircuts were shown on so many different breeds that you can definitely learn how to do it yourself, even if you have a big dog or a little dog like mine...WOOF!

Summary: Good content, but very limited
Review: I am a professional groomer, and I always like to review other groomers (especially certified master groomers) for good techniques.
The groomer in this video is excellent, and his techniques are very easy to follow. Everything about the video was pretty good, except there wasn't enough content.
If they had wanted to create a video like this, they should've covered every major breed (and there aren't that many of them) and differences, etc..
Perhaps a general discussion on teddy bear faces for mixed breeds, also.
I understand that it is a video for home grooming, but if you don't have a Yorkie, cocker, poodle, or schnauzer - this video is very much worthless for you. (except for a few general tips about bathing and brushing) I also understand that it is not for professional groomers, but still - there could've been a lot more "meat" in it.
They also did not cover important subjects like which dogs need hair pulled out of their ears and how to do this safely.

Otherwise, I thought the video showed some very important tips on how to handle a dog on the table (in an imaginary world where all dogs are well-behaved)

Summary: This is the video that I SHOULD have bought first!
Review: I bought three other dog grooming videos before I finally found this one, but it was well worth waiting for, and it will more than make up for the money that I threw away on the others. There was no comparing the "upscale" quality found here, and it is ten times more informative and thorough than the lesser videos I bought. The grooming instruction was complete and effective, obviously well-planned, and not "thrown together". This is the only video that I would recommend for learning home dog grooming, especially if you have had no prior experience. It moves at the perfect pace for beginners and the equipment demonstrated is the type that you can easily and inexpensively purchase from your local pet store.

This video offered a great deal more attention to detail of actual haircutting instruction than I would have expected, or that I found elsewhere. I also noted that the grooming instructor stressed the importance of safety concerns throughout his teachings. (Again, this was the only video to do so.) The haircuts were simple and easy to learn, as every cut was clearly shown exactly when the groomer described it. And, the pace was slow enough so he never got ahead of me. My wife and I groomed all three of our dogs with ease, and it was fun! The techniques were basic and thorough enough that I imagine they could be used to groom any kind of dog. Even a poodle was given a haircut!

The video also demonstrated how to bathe your dog and dry the hair, how to trim the nails (even black toenails, thanks), and offered many other helpful hints that were a valuable bonus in this video--even how to brush doggie's teeth! (I have always brushed my cocker's teeth, but the video showed me how to do it correctly, as I wasn't before.) There were a lot of interesting computer animations throughout the video too, and even a couple of wonderful doggie cartoons to inspire and make learning fun! I also got a huge kick out of Dick Van Patten hosting the video along with his own dogs.

Many of the other videos may look good and sound like they offer everything you need, but, like myself, you might be disappointed to find that they can be cheesy and lacking the necessary information required to even get you started. The icing on the cake was that Doggie Cuts cost less than the other videos I bought. Two thumbs up!

Summary: MOST EXCELLENT DOG GROOMING VIDEO
Review: I have been a big fan of Doggie Cuts since 1996. This video is very complete and modern and clear. I was so relieved when I watched it through that very first time because then I knew that it covered more than everything that I needed to know to successfully learn how to cut my own dog's beautiful hair. I didn't expect such a bounty of detailed haircutting techniques demonstrated by the pleasant groomer who spoke and instructed so patiently. He carefully explained everything that he was doing as he was doing it, and all the hair trimming and everything he did was clearly and safely shown in detail. I was initially afraid that I wouldn't be able to keep up and that I wouldn't catch on fast enough, or that I just wouldn't be able to actually do it, but it was truly easy for me. I believe that every basic cut for any and all dogs was accurately shown, making this video helpful for anyone (in my opinion), and forever eliminating the need for a professional groomer (and the perpetual expense of one). But again, the good thing was that it was all easy for me (a once-nervous beginner), and it wasn't scary at all. In fact, I enjoyed myself, and I was very pleased with even my very first haircut. I also learned how to keep my hyper little bundle of joy calm and relaxed while I washed him and cut his hair because the generous groomer shared all of his grooming tricks and secrets.

Also worth mentioning is that there is surprisingly much more to this video than just learning a complete haircut. A veterinarian and her assistant started out talking about many important healthcare issues, then they demonstrated how to cut your dog's toenails and even how to brush their teeth. (I didn't even know you could brush a dog's teeth.) After that, they show you how to properly give your dog a bath, while still discussing more health and grooming topics. Also, Dick Van Patten often cuts in to offer good advice and healthcare tips, nutritional facts, etc. I learned a lot from all of this; what I was doing right, and even what I had been doing wrong for years.

I bought this Doggie Cuts video from Amazon.com many years ago, and what a blessing it was for me and my beloved Yorkshire Terrier, who just recently passed away after we spent almost fifteen wonderful years together. My little friend and I were extremely close, and I always did anything and everything that would allow us to be together as much as possible. That was the main reason why I bought the video in the first place; so I could learn how to cut his hair myself, and I would never again have to leave him at the groomer's all day long. And, learn I did. I was able to cut and groom his hair myself for the past nine years (more than seventy times in all, I'm guessing), and we were both very grateful for the additional time together. I miss him so much now, I can't even tell you. But, Doggie Cuts taught me at-home grooming that eliminated a lot of stress for both of us, and that provided another way for us to spend more quality time together. A special thanks to those who cared enough to make this most excellent dog grooming video for everyone who wants the very best for their canine companions and friends.

Summary: Eight is NOT enough!
Review: I love this video! I can groom my dog at home now, saving me lots of money AND aggravation. The video also taught me many things I didn't know about maintaining my dog's health & hygiene. And of course, the kitsch factor of having America's favorite TV Dad, Dick Van Patten as the celebrity host, makes 'Doggie Cuts' a cult classic in the making.

What a great gift idea for my dog-owner friends!

Summary: Not for the beginner
Review: I was hoping for a beginning lesson on grooming my dog - just the basics. This is more styling and tips, for those who are already using grooming tools and know what to do. This would be useful for someone wanting to improve their grooming skills, but not very useful for a beginner.

Summary: A little disappointed
Review: I was really looking forward to getting this DVD after all the good reviews I read about it. I mainly bought this video for my Benji like terrier mix. But when I watched it I was disappointed that the video didn't cover much on how to cut long hair on the body. They did little trims here and there, but not anything major. However, I did like the trimming around the feet. That worked out really well for me. The only other thing that I really liked about the video was showing how to give a dog a bath properly. Overall, it was hard to get my dog to hold still long enough to give her a hair cut despite their tips. I think the video would work pretty well if you had another person to help you cut the dog's hair and keep them steady. Also I didn't like the fact that this DVD was only one track as one other reviewer had mentioned. This video would be good for just a basic knowledge of how to trim certain areas rather than to give a full hair cut.
