Summary: Three Thumbs Down
Review: I recall NOVA, the award winning PBS-TV science series, did a close up of Erich Von Daniken and his Chariots book. NOVA did not shamelessly attack him and his "theory" but used simple, rational, and basic scientific steps in analysis of "evidence" to turn Mr. VD and his presentation into sawdust. NOVA showed multiple times of his out-right distortions, misrepresentations and perhaps fraudulent portrail of fact. As I remember the NOVA program only focused on Mr. VD because of the emmense popularity of his book and movie. In my opinion this book does more damage than entertain. It's a sad commentary on people to have and continue to put money in his pocket. His history of success with this tripe shows how much people are lacking in critical thinking. Keep in mind, "Believe nothing you hear and half of what you see." Just keep in your mind simple, basic skeptisim. Perhaps the book is a "neat" cosmic idea but reality and scientic discovery of the universe we live in passes him and his believers at the speed of light. Those left to wonder about the world thru his eyes are being terribly short-sighted. I feel this book should be filed in the drawer under "Beliefs" which has no responsiblity to be rational.

Summary: Where Science Ends
Review: As a student of archaeology, it saddens me to see something as false and incorrect as von Daniken's Chariots of the Gods, given such attention. His evidence has been disproven by the scientific community, something that has not been passed on to the average viewer. Chariots of the Gods is in no way helpful. It's theories, many of them based on evidence that was artifically created, draw the public's attention away from scholarily research to off the wall theories created by a man without any sort of formal education. He has no degree or higher training in archaeology, yet his theory is more widely read than most Harvard professors. If the public wants to watch this pseudo-documentary, they are more than welcome, but science does not give Chariots of the Gods any more credit than Rocky Horror Picture Show. I agree with Blockbuster's take on this film, shelving it beside Independence Day and Jaws.

Summary: Chariots of the Gods
Review: Thisis an excellent book, as are his others. Remember thatbelieving in the Bible is just as big of a leap as believing Danikens thoughts. Many aspects of the Bible are true, but not all. Many of the things have been proven false or are speculation. Check Exodous 19:18, this is when Moses is about to receive the ten commandments. Very intresting that God must come down from the sky, and on top of that with fire and smoke blazing all over the place, sounds more like something else to me. I recommend any of his books to people who are intrested in learning the truth behind our past.

Summary: Mostly a crock, but interesting.
Review: Actually, I thought the "shocking theory of prehistoric UFO visitations" was first advanced by Captain Kirk in the Star Trek episode "Who Mourns for Adonais?", but that's neither here nor there.I first read this book immediately after watching the TV film he had produced, complete with awe-inspiring background music and grandiloquent narration. The vast majority of the "evidence" he cites only vaguely--if at all--suggests rehistoric visitation by aliens. Worse, Von Daniken seems to believe that early human civilizations were incapable of putting one brick on top of another without alien assistance. On the other hand there are a few compelling exceptions, like the "astronaut" paintings in southern Algeria. All in all it's a fun read, but don't take it too seriously.

Review: Since noone seems to be explaining the actual theme of this movie, I'll try to do just that in as few words as I can: It is the story of our spicies and life as we know it. It makes you really think about who we are and if we're alone here. I strongly recommend that everyone who reads this buy at least one copy or more and share it with all their friends. Peace! :Þ

Summary: Dated material that is good for stimulating further research
Review: I read this book at an impressionable age and was filled with wonderment. This inspired me to ask "What if?" and I undertook much self study to pursue my quest for knowledge. Slowly I realized that Von Daniken struck while the iron was hot with several works pushing this topic. I thank him for pushing me into studying cosmology, astronomy, and physics so I could realize his theories were just entertaining tales that made him money.

Summary: Frighteningly convincing...
Review: Call me a fool, but I beleive it all. Its hard to argue with all the information in this book. I have also noticed that most of the time, these ratings are either fives or ones. I agree with the fives more than the ones but it seems to me that the ones are mostly the people that believe strongly in their religion. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT! The rest of the ones, however, are mostly those who are afraid because they DO believe all of it. There is no need to be afraid. It may be a scary concept, but it is one we may have to face in the very near future...

Review: This book is not true, contrary to all those who believe in this nonsense. The Amityville Horror was proven a hoax almost from the beginning. However, it is a good horror story if you read it for what it is- fiction.

Summary: This is still in print?
Review: Von Daniken masterwerk which has been debunked in so many ways that I find it incredible that publishers still have the nerve to print it. I was into UFO's and the like when I was a kid and even then I didn't believe this. One thing that even my child's brain could see was that he criticises archeologists at every turn, yet quotes them as gospel if they happen to support the point he's currently making. There's a desert photo of what looks like an airplane parking lot in one of his books. He tries to show that alien space-craft used this. In reality this pattern is only a few yards long and may have been of use to toy spacecraft. When challenged by a TV documentary team about this, and other issues, Von Daniken vowed to correct future editions. He didn't do it. I'll bet that photo is still there - along with the other misrepresentations.
