Summary: If you thought the TV version was good...
Review: WOW. These 30 minutes extra make such a difference. Not only does it make full sence the first time through, but you actually pick up on the actor's slower pace and have time to absorb it all. Its even MORE emotional in such high quality. The commentary from Rob Tapert, Lucy Lawless, and Renee O'Connor is awesome, I feel like I should just add to the conversation. This is a must have for any of the Hardcore Nut Balls out there! Gabrielle's (O'Connor)'mud fight' with Mourymoto (SP) is expanded and it helps to capture the essence of the fight. A great set of scenes showing how the characters go to Mt. Fuji is intresting, as their spirit forms take possession of birds. The ending sequence is great, most intresting are the protective dragon tatoo on Gabrielle's role in keeping her safe from Yodoshi and the way that Xena's(Lawless) ghost transforms from what I think of as a beaten, shattered, slave to Yodoshi to the powerful, Xena: Warrior Princess via the Fountain of Strength's water. Very good for anoyone who saw the last episode and is over the mourning as well as anyone who enjoys Japanese movies or just Xena, Greece, Japan, or action in general.

Summary: I thought the series finale was a fitting end to the series
Review: I'm looking forward to seeing the directors cut since I did enjoy the series finale.I wish they had wrote season four and five with that intensity as they did for "When Fates Collide and Friend In Need I/II".I might have continued to watch the series but towards the middle of season four it seemed the writers had ran out of ideas and it seemed that every other episode the characters were breaking into song and dance or storylines made you scream at the television.....where's the plot?
This DVD Lucy,ROC and Tabert do a commentary during the showing of the finale, explaining what went where, why they did this instead of that.If you ever watched Mystery Theater it plays out the same way.You also have your other option of just watching without commentary.A few additional scenes that are added explain a little bit more. The behind the scenes is awesome and ROC actually climbed down that cliff to get to the urn!
Xena went out the same way she started on Hercules,as a Warrior!!!

Summary: Incredible :)
Review: I disagree with those who gave it low ratings, Xena did not commit suicide, she died as a warrior fighting for a just cause. The series has never gone downhill, MANY, including myself, have always loved the series and continue to. The finale is excellent, and what many people don't understand is the director made it this way to purposely instill in our minds to continue to think about the ending and how we could change it with our own ideas, kind of like thinking up more episodes. I however do wish for a movie :) Battle On Xena!!

Summary: Very disappointing
Review: This season finale was not for the fans of Xena but for it's producer Robert Tapert. His vision was not mine or many other Xenites vision. He had Xena commit suicide, not a very fitting end for such a great warrior. The only reason to watch it is to see Renee o'Connor. Her acting was absolutely brilliant.

Summary: A finale that stands on its own
Review: "Friend in Need" is by far one of the best episodes of the series. As a matter of fact, it's more than an episode, it's a lot like a movie. "Xena: Warrior Princess" ended with the "bang" that it was supposed to.
Sure, Xena's death is a bit violent but the character itself was violent. "Friend in Need" is full of symbolic elements and in two episodes manages to portray the entire show and remind the viewer what the series was all about: redemption, friendship and the greater good.
This episode was artistically beautiful and will make any fan cry. For me, the ending was perfect and very appropriate. Of course it's really sad to see Xena go and Gabrielle left all alone, but this really represents what fans feel like seeing the series come to an end. Although Xena has left us, she will always be a part of us and, like Gabrielle, we have learned a lot from her and can keep her legacy alive.

Summary: Disappointing Series Finale of this Amazing TV Show!!!
Review: I loved Xena. It was my favorite show. Even as it progressively got worse throughout each season, it was still my favorite. And it will go down as one of my favorite shows of all time. It had action, comedy, camp, drama - EVERYTHING! That said this series finale does a great disservice to this show. Now I would have preferred that Xena and Gabrielle rode off into the sunset with each other but I'm not totally disappointed that she was killed. What I am disappointed at is this episode that had more Xena backstory and going to Japan and ghost killers, evil demons, and just plain junk. If you want to experience what this show was and have never seen it before, don't buy this DVD. Watch Xena from episode one and experience what we all did so long ago (or so it seems). Watch the amazing fighting scenes, Xena's catchy one-liners, Gabrielle's annoying cuteness, and ultimately the love that developed between Xena and Gabrielle - a love beyond sexuality! It's truly amazing. We all had our ideas about how this show would end, and certainly few can be happy with the mess that came to be A Friend in Need. Xena backstory should have been done with the far superior ring, rheinegold, and return of the valkyrie trilogy. My hope would be for the end to be Xena and Gabrielle simply reminiscing about their past adventures and then to ride off into the sunset for new adventures. Too bad that didn't happen. Let's hope if a Xena feature film is ever made (Please Mr. Tapert) that they get it right. The question is: Can Xena be resurrected? You bet!

Summary: maybe my expectations were too high....
Review: The season finale was a let down of sorts; I've watched the show since the beginning, own every cherished episode and I truly expected an unforgettable ending- crazy FIREWORKS, gushing sentiment, profoundly layered plots and all. It just wasn't happening. Basically, the episodes revolved around Xena seeking atonement for her past evil deeds (so new and refreshing, I know)

In a grief-stricken/drunken stupor, Xena "accidentally" started a fire that killed 40,000 in a foreign land. Her dead friend Akemi comes back and asks for her help in releasing the 40,000 souls into a state of grace. It reminded me of how Xena felt about her mentor Lao-Ma (and her debt) and it was almost the same idea...not incredibly original or emotion-evoking to me. There are some moving moments between Gabrielle and Xena as Xena heartbreakingly begins to prepare Gab for life without her--just in case. Gabrielle really shines in these episodes as an accomplished warrior, devoted soulmate, and ultimately the defender of the greater good whereas it's really creepy to see how "soft" Xena had become (in a valium-like sedated way) and leaves you wondering if her sacrifices were really as noble as she felt they were.

The episodes seemed kind of "rushed" to me and the emotional scenes between Gabrielle and Xena were touching and heartfelt but it left me wanting a little more. After all, they were together since 1995 and I expected the ending to be magical and whole-heartedly reflective of their love and eternal bond, you know? They came a long way...and the ending made it seem as if they had known each other for like 10 months.

Parts of it seemed kind of reckless and "that's it??? WHAT??!" but then you have beautiful Xena sitting across from Gabrielle "GABRIELLE, if I only had 30 seconds to live, this is how I'd want to live them...looking into your eyes...always remember I LOVE YOU."

Basically, I expected a better story for the finale (but then again, I'm indifferent to tales from their foreign travels) and more mush between the soulmates. It had some cool fighting scenes and decent special effects, and like I said, Gabrielle really outdoes herself in this one. As a devoted fan, I stand by all the decisions regardless. :-)

Summary: Don't watch this piece of garbage!
Review: This episode is close to the worst episode ever. It is complete nonsense and goes against every thing that Xena stood for. If you want to see Xena hacked to death for no reason what so ever then go ahead.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Agree with the long winded Xena fan post.
Review: Its a pity so much effort was put into something that should have had a more fan satisfying ending, like we did on "Dark Shadows".

I give it 4 stars only because I liked the series alot, the magical chemisty between Lucy and Renee as the leads, whether they are really lovers or just friends, it doesnt matter, they have a special bond that death itself will never break.

Hope the Xena movie really happens in the future.
Best wishes,
