Summary: Wow!!
Review: I had forgotten how well done the second season was. You'll notice a considerable increase in show quality over the first season. A must have for any sci-fi fan. And best of all the set now includes a 'play' option which just plays one show after another!

Summary: Babylon 5 - The Complete Second Season
Review: As an avid fan of Babylon 5, which it could be argued was the best television series ever made, I was very excited about being able to own the series on DVD. I purchased the Season 1 box set and notwithstanding the previously mentioned glitches and fuzziness, I was quite pleased with my purchase. I eagerly awaited release of the Second Season. Finally I got my copy in the mail and opened the beautiful box and popped disc 1 into the disc tray.
As the first episode started I noticed that all of the scenes appeared to be extremely dark. Colors on the character's clothing was much darker than those originally broadcast or as they appeared in the 1st Season box set. Nothing in shadowed areas could be seen at all. The same was true of the CGI space scenes. Feelings of panic began to emerge as I popped another disc into the tray and witnessed similar results. The sharpness of the video in general was much worse than the first set leading me to momentarily suspect I had purchased a bootleg. I started searching online for reviews to see if anyone else was having similar problems. To date I have been unable to find any similar complaints. To the contrary I have found comments that the quality in this set is BETTER than the first. I hope that I have received a defective copy and that not all versions of this set suffer from this terrible video quality. If anyone else is having similar problems I would love to see your comments posted here. If this is actually how this set was released it is a great disappointment and will affect any future purchase decisions for planned subsequent releases. This is in no way a commentary on the quality of the show itself, which in my opinion was phenomenal. It is impossible to enjoy the show in this condition. If I end being stuck with a bad copy of this item, it is unlikely I will purchase through them again.

Summary: The True Babylon 5 Starts here
Review: The first season was unfocused, here is where the real Babylon 5 starts. Major story elements like the Shadows and Captain Sheridan start in the season.

Summary: The best gets even better
Review: If the 1st season started the ball rolling, the 2nd season puts a jet engine on it and opens up the throttle! I'm halfway through the set and I'm holding on for dear life. This is what science fiction should be!

Summary: A Novel on TV
Review: You don't believe a novel could be written for television? I've heard so many times that a book is worth so much more, that it drives the imagination beyond anything a picture or something television or movies have ever produced.

Babylon 5 proves this wrong. Nothing has inspired me more, and the acting is everything i would have imagined in a book. Only in Babylon 5, do i find the equivalent (because of the incredible acting) of a novel on television. I can watch the show, see the emotion in faces that would escape me in words.

The second season shows the rise and falls of empires, the building of a counter-conspiracy, the threat of ancient enemies, and the actions of certain individuals must make in the hopes of preserving the future for all.

For those that don't belive a book can't be written on television, or that it is not the same, i recommend both season 1 and season 2 of babylon 5, watch the story line. There's nothing in comparison, imho. b

Review: I loved Star Trek and STNG. I say B5 and loved it even more. Great Characters and Great Stories. It is great.

Summary: Ruined by O'Hare's absense
Review: The first season of Babylon 5 (which I have only recently seen for the first time on DVD) was truly dramatic, and the possibilities for the future were exciting.

Now the second season has come out. Amazingly, for someone with so much television experience, Bruce Boxleitner has no presense at all. Michael O'Hare, whom he replaced after season 1, was truly a "commanding" officer. Boxleitner simply yells all the time like a boy demanding to be listened to.

I'm sure the show will still be dramatically satisfying as future season are released, but I am not interested in a show without Cmdr. Jeffrey Sinclair.

Summary: Good but grainy
Review: I have everything from the second season forward already recorded on VHS video tape from when it was on TNT. Although I have to admit it is nice to have these on DVD, I find myself wishing that the video quality was better. These have obviously been transferred from film and have not been "digitally remastered" as far as the video goes. Therefore, you WILL see little white specks appear and disappear, as well as an occasional thin white line appear lengthwise down the screen. Some low light shots appear grainy, although the computer generated stuff looks as great as ever.

Lest you think these problems are caused by my set-up, please be advised I have a new 32-inch flat screen (non digital), decent sound system, and a middle-of-the-road DVD player. DVDs like Mainframe's Reboot, Disney's Dinosaur, the Sci-Fi's Dune look awesome and don't have this type of video problem. Before I wrote this, I actually played the same DVD on my computer. The same problems are there.

Does this detract from the viewing experience? Well, somewhat. I can't deny that I was expecting more for my dollar. However, Babylon 5 seems to be fading fast into the oblivion of "old sci-fi shows", and these DVDs might be one of the few chances you have to snag the series if you really want it. I think it's worth it, but you should still know the truth.

Summary: The first review of the actual DVD
Review: Let me begin by stating how incredible the series really is, and season 2 is the first season that won awards in the sci-fi community. So the base content of this 6-DVD set is strong. Added to that are special features galore.

To start off, the episodes are presented in widescreen format for a better viewing experience.

Second, two episodes have commentary tracks by writer JMS, as in the first season, these commentaries are enlightening about how he conceived of the show and how he crafted the show to fit his vision.

Third, an episode has a commentary by actors Claudia Christian (Ivonava), Bruce Boxleitner (Sheridan), and Jerry Doyle (Garibaldi). While not so enlightening about the story of the show, it is simply hilarious and a must see.

Fourth, there are also two documentaries and an introduction to the show. This is a great peek into how the show actually worked.

All of the above and more in this DVD set; buy, watch and enjoy.
