Summary: It may have been funny, but...
Review: While I did find this film to be quite humorous, something about whales saving the planet seemed to be a bit far-fetched. The climax of the movie was particularly ridiculous, with whales singing underwater while a space probe makes an equivelent, over-land noise. Truth be told, I did think this was funny, but most unfortunatly, it was not intended to be taken that way.

Summary: The Doctor gave me a new kidney
Review: This is probably best star trek movie in existence. This movie is witty, funny and socially conscious all at the same time. It also several memorable situations the best of which include Kirk trying to explain that they don't use money in the 24th century, Spock smoking a little to much LDS back in the 60s just to name a few. It offers a wonderful snapshot of America in the 80s. If you have to see a star trek movie this is the one you would want to see. It is also, in a way, Star Treks own nod towards the conservation movement. Who knows one day up the road an alien probe may show up asking to talk to Wales

Summary: "Star Trek" at its best!!
Review: Although this one was a crowd pleaser, it is definately different than its predesesors, picking up where Star Trek III left off, we see Kirk & Co. getting ready to leave Vulcan for earth in the Klingon Bird Of Prey that they have to shuttle home because of the Enterprise's destruction in "III", knowing that they face court-martial from the events of "III" they leave only to discover that a probe is interupting earth's atmosphere, & is on the verge of destruction, Spock now recovering fom his experience from the prior installments, discovers that the probe is trying desperately to communicate with the now extinct humpback whales, in order to stop its destruction, they have to time-travel to earth's past & retrieve some humpbacks, this is where the fun starts as we see Kirk & Co. trying to blend in with modern present day-to-day life, that is far more interesting then what they have encountered before, Kirk & Spock get the whales while McCoy & Scotty try to get a glass compartment for their journey back, with Uhura & Checkov getting nuclear power for the Bird Of Prey's prime reactor that was drained during the trip back, they get it from the real U.S.S. Enterprise, while Sulu rents a chopper for transporting the plexy glass, Kirk now has to persuade Dr. Gillian (Catherine Hicks), a marine biologist, to give him their location as they are to be moved from an institute to the open sea, definately a fun movie that has Spock re-citing logic in an illogical enviroment, & Kirk & Co. saving earth's future as well as their own, Leonard Nimoy who directed "III" does it again with "IV", & pulls it off nicely here.

Summary: A Refreshing kind of Trek, and one more bonus to go!
Review: The Voyage Home. The punker on the bus (Kirk Thatcher). The humpback whales. Spock trying some "colorful metaphors." Chekov in big trouble. A newcomer named Catherine Hicks providing some good 'ole 20th century humor. And most important, the return of the Starship Enterprise (and Kirk becoming Captain again did help as well). There's nothing to dislike about this movie.

The transition to DVD is excellent. The score isn't Goldsmith or Horner, but it served its purpose. The effects are more realistic. And the trailer is better than the previous two!
But the real reason this has five stars is because Paramount gave us one more bonus, Nimoy's featurette. Good piece of info to hold onto. Overall, you will be thoroughly satisfied with the movie.

Summary: The Funniest Star Trek
Review: This one and Star Trek II are the best, but this one is by far the funniest. Even most non-Star Trek fans should enjoy this one.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The funniest
Review: Out of all the star trek movies, This one is most definatly the funniest, Its completely crazy, theres drug humor, exessive language, punks giving you the finger, & Capt Kirk who has never drank a beer before, Spock gets hooked on "colorful metaphores",
Plus remember other moments:
Scotty tricks a guy into a sale by changing history,
Sulu flying a chopper, & he does'nt know how to land,
Bones won't stop pestering Spock about the "afterlife"
Check Off (as a Russian) asking for directions to a navy ship,
& also, what's the deal with Kirk, getting cheap on a date,
Remember all the people on the whale ship, When the U.F.O. suddenly appeared out of no where, & they all soil themselves,
If you haven't seen this, you're not missing much "STAR TREK", but it is a great movie to laugh at,
It's not the best, but it's not the worst,

Summary: A 'Trek' for everyone
Review: The Star Trek movie series with the "classic" crew (Kirk, Spock, McCoy, etc.) peaked in this film, the third in the unofficial three-part "Death of Spock" saga. The story concerns Kirk and his crew, this time on a hijacked Klingon vessel on their way home to face mutiny and other charges from Star Fleet (due to their rescuing of Spock in the prior movie), only to find Earth and other planets in the grip of a devastation caused by an alien that has lost touch with whales on Earth!

Kirk & co. have to go back in time - to 1986 - in order to rescue two humpback whales and bring them to the 23rd Century, and save civilization!

Though the plot sounds convoluted, it is carried out in top-notch form. Moreover, putting the Trek crew in contemporary times, and in San Francisco, was a master touch. The clash of present and future is nothing short of brilliant, including comedic scenes that fit perfectly into the film and are not overdone. The humor, drama and adventure are mixed perfectly.

Each of the cast members gets to shine - something that did not always happen in the TV series.

A must-see movie for people and whales of the 20th and 21st century!

Summary: The Funniest Star Trek Film Ever
Review: Without question, this has to rank alongside "The Trouble With Tribbles" as a classic example of "Star Trek" humor featuring the original series cast. I'd dare say it's even funnier. I never thought either William Shatner or Leonard Nimoy would be brilliant comedians, yet their humorous portrayals of Kirk and Spock are quite convincing. You'll burst out laughing hearing Kirk's and Spock's reaction to contemporary coarse American language (And there is a scene involving Spock on a San Francisco bus that is absolutely priceless.). The supporting cast, including Original Series regulars DeForest Kelley, Walter Koenig, Nichelle Nichols, George Takei and James Doohan make much of their relatively brief time on the screen. Catherine Hicks is credible as the 20th Century cetacean biologist romanced by Admiral James T. Kirk. I credit the film's writers, including Nicholas Meyer, for allowing the original cast to boldly go where they rarely went before, with respect to humor. It's certainly among my favorite films in the ongoing "Star Trek" series.

Summary: "Thar be whales here!"
Review: Having been in exile on the Vulcan home world because of their illegal activities in the previous film, the famous senior officers from the Starship Enterprise venture back in time on a quest for something that will save the inhabitants of Earth from their own ecological shortsightedness. Though the script can get a little preachy at times, this is a fun film with an interesting plot and lots of good acting. Arguably the best of the TREK flicks.
