Summary: DVD encoding is poor at best on large screens
Review: My review is on how well visually the DVD looks on a large screen television. Of the 200+ DVD's that I own, this is probably one of the poorest DVD encoding attempts that I have seen. On a large screen HD television (50+ inches), the picture quality looks pretty poor and for the price, it shouldn't. The DVD's for DS9 and Voyager are up to par and ST:TNG could and should be. I would not recommend this DVD for people who want to watch it on large screened television based on its output picture quality.

Summary: An okay Start to the TNG legend
Review: Lets face it folks, the First Season of Star Trek the Next Generation is okay at best. It was the first season of a t.v legend with an apperence of Denise Crosby as Tasha Yar, who died late in the season.Even though this season was not the best one there still some season highlights.

These epiosodes are pretty good, but the rest is pretty substandard. But I would buy it for the collection.

Summary: A new crew explores the final frontier
Review: Though Star Trek: The Next Generation experienced some growing pains during its first season, a surprising number of these initial episodes are as good as anything that appeared in later seasons. The extras are generous, but a bit disorienting; interviews with the cast members seem to have been assembled from all over the map, some conducted during the filming of the episodes presented here and some having the "looking back" quality of interviews done several years later. This "patchwork" quality doesn't ruin the documentary materials, but certainly detracts from an overall comfortable flow. Picture quality over the course of the episodes ranges from good to excellent, and the sound is generally clear and spacious. This whole first season package generally helps making revisiting these episodes a worthwhile experience, and at a price much cheaper than those old Columbia House VHS tapes many of us bought through the mail as young people even though we really couldn't afford it.

Review: This DVD box set is sharp. Or am I just remembering how bad it used to be, picture wise that is, and comparing it to that? Really, The picture is a generation up from what it used to be. It sounds great on 5.1 You can hear the ship on the opening pass from left to right and explode into warp on the center speaker. The extra's filled my interests. The episodes were well organized. Four episodes to a shiny disk.
This season won't stand as the greatest achievement of the seven seasons. It does include hilarities of early development. Sexual undertones, An episode dedicated to uncontrolled sexuality where the crew is in a drunkard state(the naked now). Hilarious! The captain stumbling to mumble a word, as the doctor (the lovely Dr. Beverly!) creeps closer and closer, Drips of warm passion on her waxy brow. Err...Catch my grip? See it for yourself. The whole season has an ancient feel to it. Remastered film gives it new quality. Quality that almost makes the experience seem brand new. A real must-see, Must acquire for fans! I don't care if you've seen these episodes Ten times each. If you don't have enough to buy this "stellar" Collection....Get a job. Maybe at a Sci-fi convention or something. I would. ENGAGE...
P.S. The extra's are Captain's log like. Supplements, collected all together on a final disc. For instance: Thoughts from the creator, Gene, and producer and so on and so on. NO commentaries! That really hurt me. I nearly cried, gripping to the box while I read it for myself. I was quickly ameliorated by blindly thrusting in the first DvD and watching. My absolute favorite episode is "The Big goodbye".Absolutely the best. My opinion though. You see a means of escape for the stone carved Captain. Set in Union square, in the 50's. 1950's that is. "STEP ON IT"

Summary: One of the greatest SCI-FI series of all time.
Review: TNG was one of the best additions to the Star Trek Saga. Although some of the early episodes lacked the action of TOS, it seemed to pick up mid first season. A must for anyone who has enjoyed this genre.

Summary: The beginning of the best Star Trek series
Review: I am so incredibly pleased that Paramount is beginning to release the entire Star Trek saga on DVD. This is my personal favorite series. Of all the captains, Picard takes the cake. This season begins the entire story of the Next Generation and set into motion some major parts of the show. The impossible romantic attraction between Picard and Dr. Crusher, the introduction of Q, and at the very end there is a subtle hint at the BORG! This season, though not as good as the ones to follow, creates a good foundation for the seasons to come. A terrific addition to ANY Star Trek fan's collection. My favorite episodes: Encounter at Farpoint, The Naked Now, Where No One Has Gone Before, The Battle, Hide and Q, The Big Goodbye, Datalore, 11001001, Coming of Age, Arsenal of Freedom, Skin of Evil, Conspiracy, and The Neutral Zone.
