Summary: It's about time!
Review: This is a great time for Trekkies and casual fans alike. I consider myself much closer to the "casual fan" end of the spectrum, but I've been waiting for Paramount to release TnG on DVD for a long time now.A quick critique note... There are some that say that season one is not as good as what came after. I might agree, for what it is worth. But during season one everyone was trying to "find their sea legs" as it were. The writers, actors, directors... they were creating the follow up show to one of the most beloved sci-fi series of all time. They had to find their "voice" in the first season and I think they did. So, season one is extremely important to any collection, because it gives you the basis from which to understand what came after. I guess now I can stop taping [the replays] and reuse those tapes.

Summary: Oh this should be good!!!
Review: I must admit that Gary Sagle is a person after my own heart, as we are apparently the only 2 humans alive that really liked DS9. I'd be unbeveliably happy if DS9's seasons were released on DVD. At any rate, I was only 8 when the show premiered so I missed the majority of the first season (DS9 and Odo made me a Trek junkie) and I'm waiting for my chance to catch up on one of the best Sci-Fi series ever! Now, if only the other 6 seasons come out as quickly (along with the Simpsons seasons).

Summary: Season 1 essential but uneven
Review: I don't think anyone who is a Star Trek TNG fan would say season 1 (or 2) isn't/aren't worth adding to the collection. It is worth pointing out, though, how uneven the early seasons are. It wouldn't be until season 3 that the writers and directors would cut out for the most part the trivial subplots that we get in the early episodes, they would also start to look for other reasons for things going wrong than another "alien shipboard disease," which are overused in the early seasons, and in the later seasons the series took on more of an atmosphere. Last but not least, the writers/directors also strengthened the main story lines. After the season 3 cliffhanger "The Best of Both Worlds" and its series-changing conclusion, every major character gets his/her own character study episode in season 4. The amount of editing and the cumbersome restrictions placed on the writing staff in seasons 1 and 2 slowed everything down too, so that's worth pointing out. People like Brannon Braga, Joe Menosky, and Michael Piller, when they came along later on, really helped put an end to the restrictions. They lightened up the environment, made the show atmospheric and sometimes creepy ("Genesis," one of my favorites), and also focused, better integrated into the mains story, or cut the subplots.
Season one is a hit or miss season, but definitely essential to the library. Episodes like "Haven," "Code of Honor," "Angel One," and "Justice" were disasters. No intensity. They try to make serious social statements but buckle under the weight of the issues they try to take on, and under the incredible lack of focus and believability. In "Justice," the crew vists an Eden like world, mingles with its inviting, open inhabitants - only to find there's the death penalty for the equivalent of jay walking? And then that drives the show until the world's Supreme Being appears and disappears in a shuttle? It's this sort of thing that would be ironed out by the later episodes. The show was supposed to be anti death penalty, but turned out far too trivial.
Season 1 has its share of gems too: "Skin of Evil" was pure genius. "Coming of Age," which gives us the best glimpse into Wesley Crusher's character until "Journey's End" in season 7, and also sets us up for the wild "Conspiracy." "11001001" was also a gem - too bad the Bynars never resurfaced. Who could forget "Datalore," which sets up a number of sequels: Lore, who resurfaces in "Brothers" and is finally killed off in season 7's "Descent." The Crystalline Entity comes back in one of season 5's best shows, "Silicon Avatar."
So, when looked at along side everything else, I think the shortcomings and the genius of season 1 can be seen side by side. Worth your money and worth a spot in your library, just be prepared to be a bit disappointed by some if you haven't seen them already.

Summary: Season one is as important as any other season
Review: How could anyone dare telling you that the first season is not worth buying? 26 episodes, the basis for all seasons. It is true the actors are different than in the following series, but we gain a lot from this. Picard is much more formal, everybody is uneased and frighten, and despite all that we have here a lot of great episodes. "Where no one has gone before" is a classic, "datalore" is essential, "11001001" is just wonderful, "We'll always have Paris" is one of the best ever episode. The first season is a lot about science, exploring and breaking barriers, which is at the heart of Star Trek. As well all of the main species are presented, and all characters developed so we get to know who they are. 48 episodes is a lot to let go and miss if you are to wait for season 3. It might be a bit meaningless. Season one and two of Star Trek The Next Generation are a must have, even if it was just for the Extra Features...

Summary: Perfect for the times
Review: How perfect in this day and age for this collection to be released. With most of the world following a low intelligence, racist, beer drinking, war loving and seeking, extreme religion following fevor, this series will bring light to our ignorance. Sure you can see this on TNN all edited and overcompressed. How wonderful to see these gems in full dvd quality. This series shows us how uncivilized we are today and what we can strive to be in the future. If Captain Picard were our president, imagine how wonderful and peaceful this world would be today.

Summary: Don't Worry, it gets better
Review: The only thing that makes me happier than the fact that this is finally coming out on DVD is the fact that the later seasons will becoming soon afterwards. Anyone who watched the show must know that the first season is really lame compared to the later ones. By season three the show is priceless. I really can't wait to get to watch seasons three and four again in just a few months. That doesn't mean you shouldn't get this collection however. There are some good episodes and you do need it if you are a collector like me that would not be able to start a collection without the beginning. If, however, you were a casual fan of the show you might want to wait a save your money for the good stuff coming in a few months. Here's hoping that Deep Space comes next, it was the best of all the Star Treks (except maybe the original I'm outa here...

Summary: Buy it, you know you'll love it.
Review: This is a great set. Even though it hasn't been released yet, you know it is good. Do yourself a favor and buy it. You are going to watch the reruns all the time anyway, so why not have it on DVD and have superior picture and sound.

Summary: Just the beginning...
Review: I have anxiously awaited this release on DVD. The VHS version seems like such a waste of good shelf space. I've done a little digging, and found that Paramount plans to release each season of TNG as a boxed set, about every 2 months, to be followed by releases of each season of Deep Space 9 and Voyager, in the same timely manner. The future is certainly looking brighter for those of us who love these shows.

Summary: Finally !!!
Review: I am glad that the Star Trek Next Generations Series is already on DVD. The first season is very important to get to know the crew, even though I believe from season three on the series became more interesting. I am also glad that they are selling the whole season and not in pairs of episodes like the original series which is awfully long and delayed, and takes so much space in your library.

Review: At last. This set is going to rule. I'll have my Visine ready, because I am probably going melt my eyeballs watching the 25 episodes from beginning to end. Now if we could just get that greedy George Lucas to release Star Wars 4,5, and 6 on DVD instead of set after set on VHS. I hope they do not wait forever for the succeeding seasons. The Next Generation is the best of all the Star Trek series. I won't go on and on about the episodes. Anyone who is going to spend 105 dollars is a fan and knows that it is worth it.
