Summary: Better than the Movie
Review: Of Course, It would be better if they incorporated more of the battle armor into the show. But, the effects on this show are as good as any movie I've seen in the past 5 years.

If we could elevate the action and mayham up a notch or too and cater this to an adult audiance you would have a real hit.

This summer we will see a the Final Fantasy Movie "the Spirt that rises" It will have the same CGI effects and everyone will think that this was the first adult themed animated movie made by in the US. Not so! I can only hope that the production company see's the success of this movie as a way to bring back the Roughnecks in more Campaigns!!

Summary: Am I the only one who...
Review: felt like this cgi cartoon was a little simple minded?

I loved the Heinlein book. I also liked intensely the Verhoeven movie. However, with this, it felt like each of the characters was made out of wood, not electrons and that the stories were simply there to paint battle scenarios. When you play video games, there is usually cgi movies as intro, scene transition and postscript. This cartoon felt like that.

Having said that, the effect were excellent. Amazing how not a single marine actually gets killed, although lotsa bugs go BLATT!

Summary: Good clean fun
Review: Think of this as a parallel world version of the movie -- many of the same characters, tech, etc. as the film (also produced by Verhoeven), but made more palatable for kids and dressed up in some very fine CGI. The story suffers for being a series of short episodes pulled together, and Robert Heinlein's original themes of duty, discipline, and maturity are as watered down as in the film, but it was still fun enough to make me want to get the (hopefully) next DVD they put out.

Summary: A Rockin DVD
Review: First off if your one of those people who claim to be a Sci-Fi buff and love Sci-Fi movies, but then pick apart all the "Unrealistic" things that happen in the film then keep moving because you dont really like Science-Fiction stuff, and you wont like this. Now if you the type of person who says "Yeah thats pretty unbelievable, and I like it that way cause its a movie and thats the point" then pick this title up. The character animation, as well as the character development is stunning. The faces look so real you can almost touch them. The environments are so detailed you can almost step into them. The action is intense, and the creatures (bugs) are just plain tough. This series is not really for kids under 8, but can definately be appreciated by up and coming CGI artists, or people who just like good animation. Once in awhile I hear someone rant and rave about how the "Character animation is too stiff, or unreal" but trust me these comments are usually coming from people who couldnt come close to doing the quality animation that is found in Roughnecks. I will buy every DVD they release for this series.

Summary: Where'd this come from?
Review: I am a long time Heinlein and SF fan - at 40. I saw Starship Troopers, the movie, and was a bit let down at how Paul V. treated it. This animated series somewhat gets back to the book. I was very pleased at the quality of both the CGI and writing. Give us more!

Summary: 3D Action Packed Thriller
Review: This is a great movie. When I bought it,I thought,"Better keep the volume down,in case there's cussing in it".But when I turned it on,there was no swearing in it whatsoever. It was full of action, and it had a bit of comedy in it,too. If there are going to be more,I will definitely buy them!

Summary: Heinlein's Epic Lives!
Review: "THE PLUTO CAMPAIGN" Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles

"10,000 troopers versus a million bugs. Vegas odds." Trooper Rico

"How do we kill an enemy that has no soul?" Trooper Flores.

Forty episodes of the spectacular "Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles" computer-animated series aired on TV, but had a limited following. The original broadcasts were broken into eight, five-day-a-week chapters. THE PLUTO CAMPAIGN, a five-episode story arc has been edited into a feature by combining the episodes and bridging the gaps with new narrative. The stories are true to author Robert Heinlien's great fascist parody. The characters are surprisingly engaging and distinct. There's combat crazy Rico, psychic Jenkins and sexy-tough Flores.

Their mission in "The Pluto Campaign" is to wipe out an infestation of the deadly arachnids on the ice planet. But what they encounter is a full-blown invasion of the human hating monsters threatening to take over the galaxy.

The action is hard and fast. There's an extraordinary use of thematic color and lighting. Even the slightly stiff human movements give everything an otherworldy quality. Wonderful stuff that can be enjoyed again and again.

My one complaint is in the sound of the weapons. A little more bass please, and more variety in the thwacks, booms and bangs. Other sound design is above par. For many, this is a totally unknown series.

This is definitely not a kiddie cartoon. It deserves to be discovered. In fact, it could hold its own on the big screen! Bravo to Columbia TriStar for releasing it and to all the petitioners who made them do it. A second release is planned for September. I can't wait. Highly recommended. Buy this DVD. Summary: Brilliant
Review: Paul Verhoeven must have had second thoughts after making the feature film, this CGI animated series picks up where the film left off. But, it gives it a wonderful dose of the book, which is what most people disliked about the film. Although there are still a lot of elements taken directly from the film, mainly the bugs, and the weaponry is still reminiscent of the film, it is a lot closer to the book (although not completely).

Having said that I sat and watched all 5 episodes of the Pluto Campaign loving the fact I didn't have to sit through any commercials. The animation is brilliant, special effects, starship design, characters, all wonderfully captured in CGI. The stories are well written and very entertaining. After the DVD finished I was just disappointed more episodes of this wonderful series weren't available.

I for one will be keeping my eyes peeled for the next installment of this series to come out on DVD.

Give yourself a treat and get this DVD, wonderful stuff.

Summary: Too bad I'd to assign a star at all...
Review: Let's start w/ the DVD: the transfer is good, the special features sparse, close to nonexisting. Period. The film is another story, I even don't know where to start complaining.

The CG really isn't state of the art, I've seen better CG in game trailers -- heck, I'd even expect better CG from a recent game running the Unreal engine ! Bad motion blur, people and equipment dropping like statutes (no recoil effects), sloopy lighting, medium quality textures, repeated use of scenes, simple animation models of the human characters.

Relocating the story to Pluto doesn't seem to be a bad idea -- if the writer would have done his homework. You simply can't have folks moving like beeing in an 1g environment w/ Pluto's 1/500th mass of Earth ! Also I wonder how winged Bugs can fly at 43K w/o a recognizable athmosphere -- besides simply living there... And there're a lot more flaws like that.

So, who may enjoy this film ? I guess anyone up to 12 who's into adventure stories. If you're interested in SF, don't watch it. Or, if you do, make it a game spotting all those impossibilities -- at least that way you'll get some fun out of the DVD. If you're interested in CG movies, well, nearly any other CG movie I know is better than this crap (go get some Pixar or Disney). If you're interested in Heinleins original, get Verhoevens Starship Troopers. It's as far away from the book as this film but at least it's a very good movie. You didn't read the book ? Well, don't bother to get the Roughnecks DVD, get the book instead -- believe me, you'll have a better time reading it than watching this home brewn, badly researched "let's make some money" animation.

Summary: cant wait for the next series to come out!!!!!!!
Review: I am a 31 yr old man, and I loved this DVD. To bad the show was cancelled off the air but now I have it uninterrupted, free of commercials and stuff. Iwish that there were some behind the scenes makings of roughnecks, but the most important thing is the show itself. It's very realistic,my two boys could care less about it but thats because some of the dialog is what adults would talk about. all in all its a great DVD. I just want to make sure I'm on the list for the next DVD release.
