Summary: A good film but why do they do this to us?
Review: Well if this sounds familiar about an ultimate edition that's because it is all to familiar , tip for those who buy DVD's out
there if it's not offerd in Dts then there usually will be a huge
much more elaborite version as is in the case with Stargate sure
im curious as to what this film will sound like in full Dts sound
I, mean yeah it's going to be awsome.And is it worth the extra 10
dollars yes because nothing can beat Dts as far as home theatre
sound but why did they not put this version out , Star Trek has
done the same exact thing putting a 2 disk version of there first
four films and Lord Of The Rings is going to do it with all three
films but are doing it with grace and respectibility thinking of
the film and not just a bunch of extra features. Stargate is a good movie it is exciting and fun to watch the
journey into the Stargate and James Spader and Kurt Russell are
great as a pairing and the special effects still to this day are
mind blowing but movie companys need to learn that what you put
in your special or ultimate edition is just as important as the
film itself which the only bonus that I, see on this edition is
Dts the other options do not look any diffrent from other special
editions of this type , so what happens when Warner Brothers is
going to bring out The Matrix Reloaded will we have to purchase
The Matrix as a 2 disk format this seems to be now only another
marketing in the similarity that directors have of selling there
film and it does get frustrating if only you could get reimbursed
when you bought the new edition of the film, so in actuality with
this Stargate version instead of getting a cheesburger as you did
before now there giving you a double cheesburger and there hoping
you bite into it.

Summary: STARGAPE!!
Review: How many editions of this hideous movie does the world need.
The only good thing about it is Kurt Russell.
After an interesting beginning it is downhill for the rest of the movie as JAYE DAVIDSON from THE CRYING GAME tries to play an alien disguised as a man instead of a man disguised as a woman.
This movie is ATROCIOUS drivel that delivers only embarrasing lines like "There can only be one RA!" (they should not have altered DAVIDSON'S voice, then he could have played another one dimensional drag queen in this travesty)
And what is with the CHEAP CGI? Sorry, but so quick you can't see it doesn't cut it with me.
Yes this movie is an atrocity with a cast of thousands.

Review: A great film such as Stargate should have been processed in superbit first instead of the (Ultimate Edition). Will be waiting for the next edition.

Summary: Cleaner transfer
Review: Since this will be an anamorphic version, it should have a clearer picture and actually work with 16:9 screens. I'll pick it up for that reason as well as for a non-flip DVD. I think this movie is fantastic and well work a new version.

Summary: STARGATE (ultimate edition)
Review: Just think of it...you could own the DVD of Stargate, and a year later purchase the widescreen version. Now a year later the "Special Edition" comes out. Now we have the "Ultimate Edition".
Can't wait for the SPECIAL SUPER DIRECTOR'S REDUX 4 DISC SET with a Kurt Russell autograph. ...BR>Of course I have to get it, it's a better transfer with better sound.

Summary: Not Bad for a Cookie Cutter
Review: "Stargate" is the story of a troop of soldiers and a scientist who travel through a space portal and lead an uprising on the planet that they wind up on. Where these Earthlings land is on a planet strikingly similar to ancient Egypt. In fact, the people speak ancient Egyptian and are ruled by the Egyptian god, Ra (Jaye Davidson). Col Jack O'Neil (Kurt Russell) and Dr Daniel Jackson (James Spader) are the main characters. Col O'Neil is a duty-first army man who has issues revolving around his dead son. Dr Jackson is an Egyptologist who cracks the code on the portal, the Stargate, and who also gets in the way of all the soldiers carrying their guns and pointy objects. The sci-fi aspect of "Stargate" primarily rests on the notion that the ancient Egyptians didn't build the pyramids and sphinx by themselves. They were helped by an alien race. In fact, the aliens had enslaved the Egyptians and forced them to build these monuments. After the Egyptians rose up, instead of going somewhere else on Earth and enslaving those people, the aliens just pack up their bags and head for this planet taking along with them some human slaves. It's the descendants of these slaves that the Earthlings come across and assist in rising up against the aliens. (Although, who really are the aliens on this planet?) "Stargate" is by no means great movie making but it is entertaining at times. I have always felt that Spader was a better actor than most people give him credit for and his portrayal of Dr Jackson is just more evidence of this. There are of course the obligatory, predictable Hollywood plot twists and conflicts in the movie; but, as far as Hollywood cookie cutter sci-fi action movies go, "Stargate" is ok.

Review: Seeing the theatic version of the movie over ten times and then seeing the extended version was a treat. It helps tie the story just a bit better. It helps understand a lot of nagging questions that the original gave me. I do recommend the SE to any Sci-Fi or Stargate fan.

Summary: Stargate Special Edition
Review: The low rating I am giving this disc does not reflect my opinion of the film, but rather my opinion of the discs poor quality. The below average image quality is surprising, considering the fact that this is already the second DVD release of this movie. Not only is the overall image quality not as good as it should be, but to top it off the entire film features a video burn on the right hand side of the picture. Lower end monitors may cut this area off and therefore hide it, but a good screen will feature this irritating flaw. One can only hope that a Superbit or Criterion version of this film will be released one day. The disc presently available is certainly a disapointment.

Summary: My personal opinion on the film, Stargate
Review: My personal feelings about stargate is that although the premise may not be realistic or believable, what sci-fi movie really is? Are we so naive to think that an eight foot tall half man / half machine in the name of Darth Vader is realism at it's best? The folks crying that Stargate is totally out there, are probably not science fiction fans, which I have to say, if you don't enjoy sci-fi, why even bother watching the movie if you already have your mind made up that you won't like it because it's not believable? I'll admit, when I saw the movie in the theatres, I left thinking it wasn't very good, infact I remember saying to a friend "that ending was pretty stupid". However after becoming a huge fan of the television series during the first episode, I was amazed at how they changed the entire idea of the movie to developing a great series. After watching the 2nd season, I decided to watch the Stargate movie again, and this time I actually enjoyed it, albeit the action scenes were sometimes over the top, and that corny ending still leaves a slightly bitter taste in my mouth, I still bought the movie on DVD. This edition is rather poorly transferred, and I would not recommend buying it, however it's still a good movie if you enjoy Stargate: SG-1

Summary: A special edition this is not!
Review: I was completely and utterly dissapointed with the quality of the transfer on this DVD. A great sci-fi movie like this one deserves better treatment. It would probably look fine on a 27" 4:3 television... but any larger, you'll see "jaggies" all over the place from the non-anamorphic transfer. Apparently an announcement will be made in a few weeks regarding a re-release. Hopefully with more attention to detail. But, now I have to find someplace to unload this piece of tripe.
