Summary: Great addition to the legend
Review: I've seen a lot of negative reviews for this one. I don't know why either. Was Jar-Jar annoying? Yes, in some cases he was very annoying. Anyone else remember how annoying C3PO used to be? That didn't stop the first trilogy from becoming classic. The action (especially the end lightsaber fight) is spectacular. The special effects are also spectacular and blend very well with the rest of the story. Over all, I think people just expected way to much out of this movie and were dissappointed when it was merely just as good as the other Star Wars movies. I for one was very excited when I first saw this movie. I was like a kid the night before Christmas when I first saw Star Wars Episode 1 scrolling up the big screen. I was not dissapointed.

Summary: A disgrace to the Trilogy.
Review: This movie is all that is stated above: a disgrace. I find it offensive that someone could actually think that this piece of over-hyped, 100% special effects, worthless piece of trash could EVER come close to the original trilogy. There was no story, no development of plot and horrible acting. Character development (ESPECIALLY that of Darth Maul) was nonexistent. Jar-Jar was an unnecessary addition. It seems like the whole movie was made on a computer. When other movies not carrying the Star Wars name are made like this, they are laughed at. Count me out from the people in line to see Episode 2: The Garbage Continues. Lucas peaked when he made Return of the Jedi, which is in my opinion the best and only great Star Wars movie. I give one star for the mere fact that Lucas was brave enough to send this piece of trash into the world. The Star Wars saga as we know it ended in 1982. No SW movie will EVER come close to ROTJ.

Summary: Stick With The Original And Save Some Money
Review: This film has been incredibly overhyped, and the factor that it being the most anticipated movie of all time, I thought that it could have had higher expectations. There was two good scenes: Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and Darth Maul fighting, and the pod race. The pod race wasn't suspenseful, because you know the annoying boy has to win. I'm sorry, but it hurts to insult a kid, but it seems OK with a movie like this. There is no bright points in this movie, and the acting was not good. All they did was whisper to each other. And there was Jar-Jar. He was just what he was supposed to be: A childish, annoying, clumsy imbecile. You got to hand it to him, he's a better actor than Liam Neeson in this film. The casting wasn't good.Put it this way: Jar Jar doesn't belong; Chewy does. Qui-Gon doesn't belong, Han does. Anakin doesn't belong; Luke does, and, of course, the Cinna-Bun hair-styled Princess Leia. That's the Star Wars I like. I am one who thought the first 3 were really good, because there was the chemistry. I think that Lucas did this for the money and the hype and his extra 15 years of fame. Another funny thing is that it looks newer than the original, but it's supposed to be before the original. I do not recommend this movie. If you want to see a good movie, see American Beauty, and if you don't already know the ending, Sixth Sense, or...The Lion King, I guess. OR THE ORIGINALS AGAIN.

Summary: Excellent addition to the Star Wars saga
Review: Regardless of what some might say, this movie is one of thebest Star Wars ever, and is definetly worthly of being part of thesaga. The computer animation was absolutly mind boggling. As I watched the movie I kept thinking, how did they do all of this. The Podrace scene inparticular, is just awesome. I could watch that a hundred times and still not get bored of it. The combination of live actors and computer generated characters was seemless, and to think, the next one will look even better. END

Review: I grew up with star wars and was 6 when it came out in 77, that makes me 29 now. I found this look back at the begingings of starwars and to see how obi wan and, who luke and lea's mom and father was was awesome! I loved liam neeson(as usual) and again he delivered a #1 performance as master qui gon jin..and ewan mcgreggor did a great job, and they did a good job matching a young obi wan with that of the older one from the original movie.."master" george lucas does it again..keep up the good job..

Summary: A huge Star Wars fan
Review: To make a long story short, Episode I is, in my opinion, the best sci-fi movie ever made. In fact, it is my personal favourite video. All of the Star Wars movies are a must-have for your video collection. The Phantom Menace is a film for all age groups too. Young Jake Lloyd is perfect as Anakin. I watch this movie at least once a week. It's absolutely wonderful - perfect movie. BUY IT NOW.

Summary: Two-Hour Commercial For The New SW Doll Line...
Review: After watching the devoid-of-any-charm-sleep-inducing-travesty-of-a-movie known as the 'The Phantom Menace', I dropped to my knees and prayed to God and every saint that I could remember that Mr. George "Quasi-Genius Turned Marketing Whore" Lucas hands the writing and directing duties of the next two films to another party (dramatic-overstating,but I'm just making a point here, folks). Maybe in the hands of people like Lawrence Kazden (who wrote the script for 'Empire'-the best of the orinal trilogy) and Frank Darabont, we'll get some inspired film-making. Something that the Star Wars myth legacy deserves (even though the trilogy didn't deserve 'Jedi' either, but...). But if it stays in Lucas' hands?...YEESH! Do we really need ANOTHER "VILLIAN TUMBLES DOWN A BOTTOMLESS CHASM" scene, or ANOTHER "BIG-BAM-BOOM SPACE STATION" scene, or even ANOTHER "CELEBRATION FINALE" scene? THere is no doubt, to me anyways, that Mr. George is a great 'Idea Guy', and he used to be an inspired all-around filmmaker. But with 'Phantom', all he seemed inspired to do was show some ILM muscle and create a two- hour commercial for the new line of Star Wars Dolls.

Summary: a tour-de-Force
Review: Like many others, I did not enjoy TPM on my first viewing. I was crazy over the first and last half-hours of the film, but was a bit non-plussed by the Tatooine and Coruscant sequences in between. But those amazing sequences on Naboo caused me to love the film by the third viewing. The same things that TPM had going for it(a "Star Wars" film; being the most anticipated film in history) are also the things it had going against it (would it live up to and be worthy of the original trilogy? would it be worth the 16-year wait?). Another potential liability is that it, like "Return of the Jedi", is a virtual remake of the first film ("Jedi" re-ran the Death Star and the climactic Rebel assault on it; TPM re-runs the aging Jedi and his brash young apprentice helping a plucky royal female from a peaceful planet against technocratic tyrants). Heck, TPM even echoes "Jedi"'s three-way climax(space battle, land battle, lightsabre battle). And yet, (in my opinion) it works! Some have criticized the extensive use of special effects at the expense of character development; Lucas once said that he wanted to make "abstract films", wherein there are no characters yet the viewer is moved by what is on screen. In TPM, I think he has succeeded brilliantly.

Summary: BETTER THAN GIVEN CREDIT FOR
Review: I HAVE TO WRITE THIS AFTER READING THE BAD REVIEWS. THE MAIN PROBLEM THAT PEOPLE HAVE WITH THIS MOVIE IS SCRIPT AND CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. I CHALLENGE THESE PEOPLE THEN TO FORGET THE CLASSIC MOVIES. ITS IMPOSSSIBLE ISN'T IT. IT IS ALSO IMPOSSIBLE TO DIVIDE WHAT WE KNOW OF THE CHARACTERS INTO THEIR TWO HOUR SEGMENTS. IF YOU TRUELY LOOK AT A NEW HOPE YOU WILL SEE THAT THE CHARACTERS ARE ABOUT AS DEVELOPED HERE AS THEY ARE IN TPM. AS FOR SCRIPT, ONLY EMPIRE HAD A REALLY GOOD SCRIPT. I FOUND THE FORSHADOWING AND THE PLOT ENJOYABLE. TPM HAS THE SAME PREMISE AND TIMING AS A NEW HOPE. ALSO LAY OFF JAR JAR. HE HAS THE ROLE OF 3P0 R2 AND CHEWBACCA ROLED INTO ONE. YES HE IS VERY DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND SOMETIMES AND THIS DOES TAKE AWAY FROM THE FOCUS OF THE FILM. PERSONALLY I THINK IT IS THE EDITING THAT IS THE PROBLEM. IF YOU READ THE BOOK YOU WILL FIND VERY INTERSTING THINGS THAT WOULD HAVE HELPED THE FILM. THESE SCENES WERE FILMED AND WE SEE PART OF THEM START IN THE FILM BUT THEY ARE NOT ACTUALIZED COMPLETELY AND LEAVES THAT VOID OUT THERE. PEOPLE NEED TO LOOK AT THIS AS THEY WOULD A BOOK. THE FIRST CHAPTER IS ALWAYS THE WEEKEST. IT HAS TO BE. IT SETS EVERYTHING ELSE UP THAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN. ITS THE FOUNDATION ON WHICH TO BUILD. WATCH THE MOVIE WITH THAT IN MIND. LEAVE YOUR EXPECTATIONS BEHIND. SIT BACK AND ENJOY. I DO MANY MANY TIMES.
