Summary: Time to repeat what other people said!
Review: I can't help it. I had to write this review. Dune is epic. EPIC. Its not just epic, its EPIC. The music, setting, and plot(s) are so mysteriously significant that you feel that you've sinned if you don't call this movie epic. However, I must say that the sand should've been more white and not as orange, like in the TV version. It makes it all the more epic. Thank you for your time.

Summary: A Good Movie
Review: The first time I saw this movie, I thought it was weird. Now I think that this is a good movie. Dune is a good representation of the future.

Summary: Possibly the most epic film in 30 years
Review: Dune is, by all means, a very entertaining film though it lacks letting the viewer know what is going on. Only people who have read the book (or are watching with someone who has read it) knows the vocabulary and the functions of various characters. Lynch's directing is astounding. Visualy this is my favorite film ever, the spice captains are extremely interesting to look at and the costumes are incredible. There are so many parts of the movie that work well that it is hard to look at the films biggest wound...its quickness. Personaly I would not have minded if Lych made the film 500 minutes long, but I felt so robbed and dissapointed that the viewer was catipulted to a "2 standard years later" scenario. This movie begs to be remade and I would do anything to have it so. The music, actors, and Lynch's awesome...(I can't find a word for it) make this film even worth owning (if you don't mind reading the book too!) Anyway I stand by my claim that this is the most epic film in 30 years...

Summary: Wish it were the Director's Cut
Review: While this version of Dune was good overall, it was lacking the true sense of the story compared to the longer version. I would not recomend it to someone who has read Dune, as anything less than the Director's cut is really wanting in the story line. Still it is a classic SF movie.

Summary: Excellent visual interpretation of Herbert's classic novel
Review: Dune the movie is an outstanding translation of Herbert's *very* original novel. If you read the book (and I HIGHLY recommend doing this before you see the movie) you'll find that the fusion of gothic and sci-fi story elements are well represented. But, be aware that Dune is a complex story, with at least six interweaving plot elements and the movie will likely be incomprehensible if this is all you see. And so I give the movie 4 stars because it is such a literal translation of the book that it needs some explanation to the lay moviegoer. Get the expanded version if possible!

Summary: If you love the book, you'll probably love the movie...
Review: It is close to the book, even though it's somewhat compressed version. I like the acting, too. However, special effects are not so special. They often look very artificial, cut-and-paste type... Maybe next remake will take care of that.

Summary: Visually Stunning
Review: The DVD version of Dune is the bomb. I only wish that the Japanese extended version was available on DVD as it would fill in the gaps in the story, but despite this I still love the film and would recommend it to anyone. It is a complicated film that has to be watched several times to be understood. However, with the fantastic special effects (especially those worms!) excellent acting from a superb cast (look out for Patrick Stewart as Gurney Halleck) and Sting at his grotesque best as the sadistic Feyd, Dune is well worth watching every time. Don't just rent this film, buy it, you will want to play it again and again, it's almost addictive as the spice Melange!

Summary: Complex, yes, Wierd, yep, Good Movie, no question!
Review: This is the quintessential love it or leave it movie. If you are in to deep complex plots, that take about 3 times through to really get, then you will love this movie! It is a good plot, great story, and is a fair adaptation of the book. It is a definite buy because you have to watch it several times to understand it!

Summary: Exploring Different Areas
Review: Not only does this film explore environmental motifs, but also Marxist views, i.e., the Duke's continual references to "...the sleeper must awaken." In my opinion, the film does not do Frank Herbert's hard copy novel justice, but it does suffice.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Baroque, different, intriguing
Review: This movie will let nobody indifferent. Completely different than any other science-fiction environment, it tries to approach the unorthodox and (in our eyes) weird world of Herbert's Dune... Still, the story is maybe too complex to be narrated in a single movie... I have heard that there is a 4 hour version of the movie available that woul deliver more information esp. to people who haven't read Dune before they saw the movie... Still, as imperfect it might be, its extremely original visual impression is reason enough to watch it once... Don't miss it.
